This was one of the best bed-and-breakfasts we stayed in. A lovely warm welcome, with tea and home-made cakes, large beautiful comfortable rooms and ensuites, and the best breakfast (with home-made juice and jam). We enjoyed chatting with Mary and John, who were also able to give us a good recommendation for dinner. Thanks again!

The owners John and Mary offer a warm and friendly welcome to this character B&B. It offers everything that you would wish from a top B&B venue. From a welcome cup of tea with home made cake to an excellent full Welsh breakfast. The local knowledge and information is an added bonus.

One of the nicest hotel-experiences I had in a long time. This place could easy beat many of 5* hotels! The booking was quick and easy. I was arriving late with a train and John offered to pick me up. At my request, he took me a restaurant, so I could get some take-away food. On our way back, he...

Right on the Offa's Dyke path and a lovely welcome with tea and cake after a hard day climbing over Beacon Hill etc. The hosts obviously love their work and we felt more like friends than guests. TV's in the lounge and internet connection was patchy but apart from these the stay was very comfortable. Apparently, the local pub is...

An outstanding example of rural B&Bs at their best. Heath Cottage is a lovely picturesque house with honeysuckle climbing up the outside. Inside, the bedroom we had was attractively and traditionally furnished, but with a lovely modern bathroom and a good shower. The hosts were wonderfully welcoming and attentive without fussing, and the breakfast was just superb!

A group of us stayed here recently while in the area and it could not have been more perfect. John & Mary are the perfect hosts and made us all feel very welcome. Lovely cosy cottage, plenty of parking for all of us which included a van and a Rally Car as were competing in the Plains Rally which started...

I visited Heath Cottage in March 2015, having completed part of the Offa's Dyke national trail, and in May 2015 at the start of the final section through to Chepstow. Having stayed in many different places during the walk I would say that this was my favourite overall. John and Mary are charming hosts, who understand the needs of walkers...

I am very late leaving this review however to cannot be more complementary about this B&B. We could not have been treated better including lifts to and from the local pub and the Offa's Dyke path. The rooms were immaculate and the breakfast and packed lunch superb. Grateful and sincere thanks. Adrian Neilson

John and Mary were wonderful hosts and made us feel very much at home. The lemon drizzle cake and cup of tea in front of the open fire was perfect. When we return to the area we could not think of a better place to stay than Heath Cottage!

We were greeted by Mary with tea in the garden and hot out the oven lemon cake. John and Mary were wonderful hosts, the rooms were large, the plumbing worked and breakfast was delish. A wonderful stay!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recharge your batteries in our 280 year old home on Offas Dyke between Powys Castle [N.T.] and historic unspoilt Montgomery. The old house has an inglenook with log fire in the oak-beamed sitting room and uninterrupted views to Welsh and Shropshire hills. Heath Cottage is a working smallholding with ewes, lambs, free-range hens and ducks. We have been welcoming visitors to our home since 1981 whether they be walking Offas Dyke, exploring Mid Wales or breaking their journey on the way to the coast or Snowdonia. Guests tell us they sleep very well, have never tasted such eggs (free-range hen or duck!), marmalade to die for and the best homemade red currant juice they have had in their lives. ... more   less
