Don't go here unless you enjoy paying ridiculous prices for small quantities of weird food. We stayed in the pink bedroom. I mean PINK. My wife who is a very good interior decorator thought the entire property was unusually decorated and was "tired".

I'm utterly amazed to see a 'disappointing' review. I wonder if this was the same place. The building itself is lovely with great staff. But the the food being 'OK' is bewildering, it has a Michelin star. I have been fortunate enough to to travel a lot and have stayed in some lovely places. The food here was the best...

We stayed for 4 nights and when we booked it was a "hotel" but before we arrived it had changed to be a "restaurant with rooms". But with the one price menu at £95 each we went out to dinner in local gastro pubs. After arriving around 3 pm from a 4 hour journey we asked for afternoon tea, which...

We had booked dinner and overnight stay. I am sorry to say that the experience was disappointing. Although the staff did everything possible to make our visit a success, there are some basic irritants that need to be changed. On arrival, we had a drink in the bar which looks in desperate need of renovation. The furniture is tacky, and...

I treated my partner to afternoon tea here for his birthday. The lady who showed us into the lovely, sunny room said we could have a free upgrade of afternoon tea and as well as the lovely sandwiches and welsh bread (Barabrith?) we had a gorgeous selection of tiny desserts which were all delicious. The upmarket hotel is beautifully decorated...

My overall impression of Ynyshir is similar to some other reviewers. I had not visited previously but it would seem that the kitchen are running the show here and they do not always make good hoteliers. There was no doubt that some of the dishes that we ate were fantastic but they alone did not compensate for other severe shortcomings...

The restaurant is impeccable but the hotel services lag behind for the price. The food has to be tasted and the 11 course tasting menu beautiful. The sommelier was excellent and his advice impeccable. A bit more attention to service detail in the hotel will make this one of the best experiences.

Superb rooms, service and location - our room looked out over the expansive gardens and to the hills beyond. Restaurant menu however was far too limited - the Tasting Menu was delicious but you don't want a (very expensive) tasting menu every night.

We were given a voucher for a Welsh afternoon tea and given the location attended with high expectations. What a disappointment, yes everything we had was nice, but having read their publicity regarding their large choice of tea I expected to be given the choice of what tea I was to have. No choice ... a pot of tea was...

Stopped over for a couple of nights. Loved my room. Floors not always level due to the history of the house. Fabulous cocktails before the meal. Food is only a tasting menu so portion size small. Tasted wonderful. Staff very attentive (possibly a little too). Very enjoyable but not if you want large portions

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ynyshir is a five star restaurant with rooms near the Snowdonia National Park, Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. The Michelin Star restaurant at Ynyshir is one of Wales' best contemporary fine dining destinations and holds four AA rosettes - one of only two restaurants in Wales to hold this distinction. Michelin Star chef Gareth Ward serves alternative British tasting menus using the very best of Welsh and British produce. The menus showcase the best of Welsh ingredients following the seasons, such as Welsh Wagyu Beef and Anglesey Onions throughout the year, as well as locally foraged sea herbs from the estuary and greens from the woodland floor and Ynyshir's extensive gardens. During hunting season expect to see wild deer and local duck, grouse and partridge, and in summer Welsh Lamb from the Dyfi valley. Gareth and his team pickle, salt, ferment and preserve fruits, leaves and berries carrying the harvests through the winter and into the spring. Expect to see dishes such as 'Not French Onion Soup', 'Mackerel Sweet & Sour' and Gareths take on a Tiramisu all served alongside a carefully selected wine-list whilst overlooking the Cambrian mountains and Ynyshir's extensive gardens Ynyshir has a total of ten luxuriously furnished guest rooms, each with its own unique style and character. There are seven rooms within the main house and three deluxe rooms directly adjacent. Each guest room has an en-suite with a separate bath and shower and feature premium Temple Spa products. Most rooms offer views over the gardens and Cambrian Mountains. ... more   less
