Hotel Luna Azul is a perfect vacation paradise. We have been staying at this hotel during our visits to Costa Rica for years now simply because there is not another like it! The Luna Azul has a mix of boutique hotel charm and luxury that...More
Hotel Luna Azul was one of the best places we stayed during our recent vacation in Costa Rica. It was the only place that served gourmet dinners cooked by one of the resident owners, Rolf. Rolf also arranged for us to join another couple at...More
Hotel Luna Azul is the perfect destination. You have no choice but to leave behind your every day concerns and immerse yourself in a picture perfect location in the middle of the Costa Rican nature. Our stay was the ultimate relaxation, the ultimate disconnect from...More
This was my second visit to Luna Azul, and it was even better than the first one... Why? Because I visit friends, family...in the middle of paradise! Yes, that is how Rolf and Andreas, as well as Fino, their dog, make us feel... In addition...More
We had the most wonderful experience while staying at Luna Azul for the second half of our honeymoon. Rolf and Andreas (and Fino) are the most amazing hosts. They have the best views from their bungalows and sitting on the deck at night listening to...More

Muchas gracias for your review! It was a pleasure for us to be your hosts during your honeymoon and we were very happy to show you not only the Olive Ridley, but also the wonderful Leatherback turtle. It seems that the number of...More

The arribadas are always in the middle, between Full Moon and New Moon, around the last quarter moon and Lasts about 5 days. So you can get a moon calendar and find the dates. Turtles arrive in the incoming high tide, mostly in the middle of the high tide. But when there are big arribadas, they arrive day and night.

It is hard to say if you will see the turtles...they are unpredictable. Are you staying at Luna Azul because if you are, I would email them....they were super helpful and very tapped into the turtles coming and going. There is also a web-site that you could find that has the moon cycles that talks about the turtles...just google Olive Ridley Turtle Aribida Cycles....or something to that affect. Tamarindo is about an hour drive but it is excellent for surfing...a nice drive.

As far as I remember there were just a few rooms with "some" ocean view. Contact the owners, they are quite helpful accommodating guest request.
Regarding the beach access: There is none. the closest beach is like 10 minutes by car or over 30 minutes of hard (uneven, hilly) walking. Most people go to the turtle beach, but close by (even closer) there is a small beach with some fishers that for a few $ will take you around (better than the 'organize' tourist boat trip and way cheaper).
