The Misty Mountains is an Offbeat Destination in Kumaon (near Chaukori and Patal Bhuvaneshwar). It has a unique location and stunning himalayan views. Its surrounded by thousands of acres of untouched forests and the nearest neighbour is a kilometer away. Its owned and managed by my wife Ambika, and I. It should be your choice -1) If you are looking for an Offbeat Destination in Kumaon that is untouched by commercial tourism. Its a destination where you can spend quality time with your friends and family.2) If you are looking for an extended stay at a complete destination in itself. It offers great location, clean and comfortable stay, peace, activities and home like food.3) If you are looking to explore the remoter parts of offbeat kumaon like Munsyari Abbot Mount, Binsar, Chaukori or Kausani. It can be part of your kumaon tour.4) If you are looking for something like an extended homestay where you can be yourself and stay comfortably for 4-5 days.
if u r not able to see the himalayan ...from Misty..its not worth going. resort is badly maintained...house keeping is very very bad.staff is good...cooperative.... not trained staff..for this type of resort... Binsar forest retreat was 100% better food is homely .

Dear Mr. Gupta, Sincere apologies for falling short on your expectations. This is not we would expect from our team. I spoke to the team and found out that there was a lapse on their part in housekeeping of the rest room attached to the dining area. The concerned person has been reprimanded and process created to make sure that it does not happen again. Our association with Banjara is a work in progress and we are sincerely working hard to improve the infrastructure and overall experience. Thank you for taking time to write this. It will help us be even more proactive in the future. Wish you a very Happy Diwali, Team Misty

My family's stay at The Misty Mountains was truly amazing. The property provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the staff in the hilly region being exceptionally hospitable. We were delighted to have sighted a leopard within the premises, adding a touch of adventure to our stay. The simple home-cooked food at The Misty Mountains was absolutely delicious, offering a taste of authentic local cuisine. The highlight, however, was the breathtaking view of the Himalayas that greeted us each day. It was a sight that left us in awe. We were so impressed with our first stay that we returned to The Misty Mountains for a second time. The property is surrounded by a large forest area, which added to the sense of tranquility and natural beauty. The cottages were simply built yet neat and clean, providing a cozy retreat. The bed blankets ensured warmth and comfort during chilly nights. Overall, The Misty Mountains is a must-visit destination. It offers a unique experience with its wildlife sightings, delicious food, stunning views, and serene surroundings.…

do you know how life sometimes really gets to you? it becomes too much from all sides and you just want to stop adulting and get pampered and find your inner peace. That's when we head to The misty mountains. this was our third trip here. we never usually visit a place more than once because there's so much else to see. the journey used to seem long to us, but not anymore. now it's exciting. we used to take frequent breaks en route there but not anymore, we are in too much of a rush to get there. we used to be tired when we got there, but not anymore. it is like going home. and we are delighted when we reach and meet the staff who are familiar to us now, we used to be anxious about how the owners are going to be. but Madhur, Ambika, and their smart-as-a-whip daughter Suroohi, who we have seen since she was little, are as always fun, funny, delightful people we have long conversations with. only hugs will do. lots of hugs. We also look out to play with Rags, their sweetheart of a dog. She is so well-mannered and polite, she will win your heart in a jiffy. the food is known to us, as simple and delicious. when Ambika can make a simple desert-like fruit custard seem like a gourmet affair it makes me go yummmmmm... the homemade pickles are delicious. if u want to go on a picnic, pls do, it's lots of fun!! A picnic basket will be packed for you. probably with the best "Jungli pulao" and raita ever. if its cold weather you are going in, your room will be made warm and cozy for u before your arrival. you will feel relaxed as soon as u enter. you will wake up to the singing of birds. the barking of deer, the scent of the millions of flowers, and the jungle. you will forget to put on sunscreen because you are mesmerised and relaxed from the moment you wake up. pls put sunscreen. at night you can lay down and count the stars, see the constellations...marvel at your nothingness. you can go for long walks, hikes, or catch up on ur sleep like i did this time. just go. you will keep coming back, like us. …

This was one of our most memorable trips. Astounding view of the Himalayan ranges from our warm comfortable rooms. Great hospitality. The hosts and the staff make you feel as if you are still at home though away from home. Their food had a homemade feel. We did a treck to the village nearby and to a temple. The trip really refreshed us.

This is one resort where we found that the resort, in reality in far more beautiful than what appears in the pictures. Be it the rooms, the grounds, view of the snows or the dining - everything is at a level higher in reality. - We were booked in the " Rosebank cottage" . Each unit consists of 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a small verandah. The rooms are very warmly lit with a large bed and a sofa. We spent the evening lazying around in the sofa. There is no TV and believe me when I say you wont need one. - The Food is very, very tasty. Be it the paneer masala or the chicken kolhapuri or the dal fry - the food that we had here was easily the best in our Kumaon trip. Plus the dining area is also a large glass house, done very tastefully. - There are 3-4 treks which were part of the package. We did a couple of them. The sunset walk is the easiest one, takes 20 mins uphill but offers great sunset views on a clear day.Raju accompanied us on 2 of these walks. Apart from these, what ever is spoken of the behaviour of Madhur and his family or the Kumaoni lunch or Raju - the head waiter or the views of the Trishul and Panchchuli range - everything is less! We will visit Misty Mountains again and this time we will stay for atleast 3 days.…

We stayed here for 5 nights in the round cottage. The views and the flowers at the property are amazing. Madhur, the owner and his family are super warm hosts and made us feel very comfortable. There dog is an amazing pahadi girl who is super cute. There are a couple of treks from the place and plenty to explore around. Since it is in the middle of a forest one sees nature and it's tiny creatures in abundance but always be mindful we are in there home and not the other way round so please respect that and do not kill any bugs u see. They are quite harmless. Raju and Sonu along with everyone took very good care of us from providing us guided walks especially to the trambhkeshvar temple and some meadows around to providing home made samosas and local kumaoni delicacies. The place has a recreation room and some books but do carry ur own so u can enjoy reading ur favourite author besides a beautiful rose bush and under clear skies while sipping ur favourite beverage. Madhur, thank you for such a wonderful stay at ur place, it felt like home. Will highly recommend this amazing place that is run with a lot of heart and soul.…

Dear Shikha, Thank you for your kind words. It was fun hosting you a here at Misty. This was a proper tourist season after a while and we were a little rusty with the Covid induced stops and starts in the last couple of years. And we have had quite a few guests this season who stayed for a longish duration. I am glad you enjoyed that as much as us. Hope to see you again sometime! Regards, Dear Rajesh, Thank you for your short and to the point review. We are glad you had a good time and would be happy to host you again. regards, Suroohi, Ambika and Madhur

A truly untouched gem. We spent 4 nights in the family cottage. Felt so much like home with the hospitality of Mr and Mrs Madhur, their daughter Surohi and Rags their dog. As indicated by them, the last 3 km is best done in their jeep, as the resort is literally in the middle of nowhere. Pure Bliss. Multiple walks and treks into the forest, make it an excellent place for birding too. Most of these treks are complimentary and Raju was extremely helpful during the walks. Staff are extremely warm and caring. Meals were a definite highlight... Mrs Madhur has obviously coached them very well. Homemade Pickles and jams were the icing. Some places we visited nearby include, Patal Bhuvaneshwar (cave temple), Gangolihat Kali temple (a Shakthi stal) and Bans pathan (place for water birds). Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a must visit, whether you are spiritual or not! Would definitely look to visit again... Maybe during a different season. Need to catch-up on the walks we missed, the views that were missing, and to just chill.…

If you love nature and you love to spend time with yourself, then this is the right destination to pamper yourself. Few kilometers away from Raiagar, this property is just for relaxation and rejuvenation within the rustic beauty of nature. All the cottages are beautifully maintained with all modern amenities to give grand comfort to guests. We were there for 2 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed those 48 hours. Special mention: > Superb hospitality of Madhur (owner of the property) > Excellent food - just like home > Comfortable rooms with electric blankets > Tea/Coffee maker > Tea is served in the cottage (it was free for us) Special mention for Bird Watchers/Lovers > There are a vast variety of birds in this area - pick a trail and you would be able to spot a variety of birds Note: Take guidance from Madhur for the route map, however, Google Map shows the parking area correctly.…

Dear Mr. Basu, Thank you for your kind words. Yes, Google shows the parking correctly but misguides if one searches for the resort as it shows the shortest footpath for the last bit. It is better to follow the map that we send our guests. Thank you for highlighting this. Would love to see you here again sometime soon. regards, Suroohi, Ambika and Madhur

If you’re thinking of vacationing at the Misty Mountains, here is a quick table on what to expect: 1 - Hospitality. Few places come close 2 - Seclusion. It is a piece of heaven in its own little corner 3 - Food. Outstanding local delicacies 4 - Madhur. The Misty mountains is like an extension of the person he is. Welcoming, serene, warm and one with nature 5 - Nature, mountains, fresh air, peace, tranquility, sheer beauty. Misty mountains has it all, in abundance! Clearly, the pros out – weigh the cons by far. However, bear in mind that if you come from warm climes (like we do), then the indifferent insulation in the rooms and the can be a slight issue. Each room is equipped with heaters and electric blankets. The problem though is if the heater is put on, then the blanket is ineffective, and vice versa. Apparently, this is because the electric voltage isn’t sufficient to power all the appliances simultaneously. However, if you carry sufficient warm clothing, you should be fine. Madhur had allotted one family cottage and two smaller cottages to us. The family cottage is a double – storied unit. It comprises of three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a large living area. The one we had was also equipped with a small attic room, which can easily accommodate 3 children or two adults. Overall, it had a capacity of 8 adults and a few kids thrown in for good measure. The smaller cottages meanwhile comprised of two bedrooms and one bathroom. Again, cozy and comfortable for a small family. Everything was solid and well – built, comfortable and very homely. Despite the temperature plunging below 0 by evening, our bathroom pipes happily gushed with piping hot water from the resort’s solar tanks. The other cottages weren’t so lucky though. However, this too wasn't a problem for the Misty Mountain's team. Raju, the man – Friday assisting Madhur, had to tramp up and down the mountainside ferrying buckets of hot water for them to bathe. The place isn't a typical resort. It is more of a collection of cottages spread over the mountainside. They're constructed such that each cottage has panoramic views of the nanda Devi range, at least in the winters. We could see the entire Nanda Devi range framed in our ‘L’ shaped bedroom window! Gazing out, it was as though we were looking at a picture of the mountains through a glass frame. That early in the winter morning the skies were a clean, clear blue, affording uninterrupted views of the entire range. There are no words to describe the breath – taking beauty of what we saw. Imagine waking up to this view everyday! Besides being within striking distance of Patal Bhuvaneshwar, the place offers brilliant hiking and trekking opportunities. We spend nearly all our time trekking through the property's 1100 acre estate, clocking 12 to 14KMS everyday. In 4 days, we were far from done! There is no better location for safe trekking, whether you are with kids or solo. The best part - it is a private estate so you won't come across anyone else. Just you, the mountains, forests and nature's bounty. The Misty Mountains is a winner all the way. There are no two ways about it. If your idea of a holiday is communing with nature, yet, coming back to the comfort of a cozy home, warm hearth and intelligent conversations, then there is no better destination than Ambika & Madhur's Misty Mountains resort. To read more about our trip, you can visit my blog, details of which are in the bio.…

Dear Abhishek, That is a beautiful and an elaborate review of Misty. Thank you for your generosity with your words as well as time in writing this. You have captured the essence of Misty - the experience of good food, warm hospitality and creature comforts within a 1000 acres of solitude. Look forward to seeing you here again sometime. And please do not mind the long gap between the review and this response. We were almost on pause mode the last year or so and just getting back to everything Misty. Cheers, Ambika, Suroohi and Madhur
