Detailed Reviews
We chose to stay due to the dog friendly atmosphere advertised and also the menu choice on offer. We stayed on two dates in the same room 24 june and 2nd july, we had the garden suite, on the first night the room was 145 per night on the way back it was 185. I dont feel that either price reflected the quality of the room, there were no dressing gowns, toiletries or fresh coffee in the room , as advertised, the room was damp with plaster falling off the wall in the bedroom and carpet tatty in the lounge. The menu was somewhat reduced and only offered limited bar food, we were also told when we booked any other stays booked direct would benefit from a 10 percent reduction, on our second stay I had to ask for this, eventually this was applied, however only yo the accommodation, not the entire bill, on the website it states on the stay which I would presume means the entire bill, nice but I feel there are other premises which offer more wont be visiting again sorry

The Amberley Inn, in its beautiful Cotswold location, provided the perfect setting for our family gathering and marriage celebrations. Nine of us stayed there, plus our two dogs. We received a very warm welcome. Our rooms were spacious, very clean and very nicely decorated. The wedding reception for nineteen in the light, airy dining room was wonderful. It looked beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. The garden was also a lovely place for us all to spend time together. The helpful and friendly staff could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable from start to finish. They were also extremely accommodating when, due to the lockdowns, we had to re-arrange everything twice. Highly recommended.

We chose Amberley Inn for its 'dog friendly 'status. The dinner lady however was not very dog friendly. She asked us to keep our dog (medium size calm dog) at the corner of the room next to the wall and away from other tables and we did as we were told. Our dog started crying feeling excluded and I had to take him in my arms. He was then settled and slept while we were waiting for our breakfast. The dinner lady came back and asked me to put the dog down on the floor at the corner. I reassured her that he is very well behaved but she spoke back and said 'dogs are well behaved around their boss but they don't know me. One dog attacked me the other day." Although we felt for her, that attitude was not what we expected from a dog friendly hotel.
Breakfast was tasty but service was slow and I didn't get what I ordered. I ordered poached eggs on brown toast and I got scrambled eggs on white toast. I mentioned it to the dinner lady (same person who was afraid of dogs) and she replaced it with poached eggs on white bread. No luck with brown bread...
Our room was small, the carpet was tiered, there was no wardrobe but a hunger for coats on the wall, and there was hair from the previous travellers in the bath!
For that room, that breakfast and that service we paid £124 which we think was overpriced.

Well! Whoever rated this at 4 stars never saw room 25 and certainly did not receive the kind of service we did at the end of May 2021.
I have no idea whether there was staff shortage issue or something more generic going on, but the stay fell way short of our expectations.
In fairness, the room was clean and comfortable, and if I had booked a one or two star establishment then all would have been well.
What I really don’t understand is that if you have been closed to guests for an extended period, why has no-one bothered to go round all the rooms and make sure the light bulbs all worked, the heating was working efficiently and the plumbing was up to scratch??
This Inn is in a fantastic location, with tremendous potential, but I get the impression the current owners are doing the minimum they can get away with.
Below are our specific observations.
Service
Locked out on arrival
Followed instructions for toiletry replenishment, but never happened
Advised reception of room defects 26/5 (Bathroom Rad not working, 3 out of 4 lightbulbs not working), unattended to on checkout 29/5
Bkfst day one, limited cereal choice. Untrained staff, doing their best, but inefficient
Bkfst day two, tables not laid up. Untrained staff again, long waits for food to arrive
Room
2 flights of steep, narrow stairs, no assistance with luggage
1 bulb in room out of 4 working
No toiletries or soap in room on arrival
Wallpaper peeling off wall
Hand held shower under sloping ceiling
No control over shower head temperature (Buy a thermostatic shower valve!)
No wardrobe space, 3 hangars on wall hooks only
Dressing table drawers only, Lived out of suitcase
Bathroom radiator not working (Probably just needs bleeding)
No Wi-Fi in separate annexe
Attic room, limited headroom

Booked for 5 for Brunch for 1100 having seen all day breakfast menu on line. when we arrived 1110 doors just being opened and we asked for menu to be told no food until 1230. Menu also had a Brunch option which said from 1130. That was not available.
We were offered at last bacon sandwiches or sausage sanwiches. This was poorly presented in supermarket sliced bread and minimum content. For a sandwich of two slices of bread and 3 thin fatty bacon slices we we charge £6.25 per sandwich. I was to ammazed to say anything and did not want a confrontation in front of the other 4 I was treating. Appalling!

Don't accept Room 6 as it should not be used even for single occupancy. The bathroom must be the smallest we've ever come across and anyone slightly overweight wouldn't be able to get into it and shut the folding door let alone get in the "walk in" shower which you actually had to step up into. The room was adequate, bed a very small "double" and enough storage space but could have done with some hooks. Being an old property the room was cold and so we had to request the heating be turned on ... in July! That then meant you scalded yourself getting in and out of the shower on the towel radiator - another reason this room should not be used. Our room didn't get cleaned the first day as we hadn't put the "clean my room" sign out but there was not one in the room to put out! Superfast broadband was very weak and could certainly do with a booster.
Staffing levels were bare minimum due to the Manager being away and in the evenings the place was run by a teenager who on two nights in a row wanted to close the bar at 9.30 p.m. despite ourselves and other guests enjoying a drink and paying sizeable bills on food and pre dinner drinks. One evening he also gave away our reserved table without telling us so we had to eat in the bar.
The breakfast menu was excellent, all freshly cooked to order and the evening menu was varied, food well presented and tasty. Our complaints about our room and the bar being shut early were not addressed until the Manager returned and he did offer some financial compensation and a free drink which we accepted. I don't know if all the rooms were full during our stay but staff should be trained to avoid filling room 6 and I think room 5 was equally small and to upgrade guests to better rooms.

We booked this hotel/pub last minute to add another night to our holiday, wish we hadn’t !
The drive up the very step hill to get there wasn’t great to start with, we walked into the reception area to find no one was manning this, after walking into the pub lounge still no one, so we waited to see if anyone came which they did after 10 mins waiting.
We were given room 7 up the stairs first floor, the carpet had dog hairs which you could see hadn’t been hoovered in a long time, the fire door wood frame was very dirty and the glass too, I really didn’t want to touch that door at all.
I booked a standard room and saw pictures online of what I booked and we certainly didn’t get that room.
Our room was tiny and very unwelcoming, very tired and the window frames were grotty very rusty & dirty.
The mattress had seen better days and our bathroom had a bath with shower over the top, but it was in such and awkward position that just having a shower was difficult to get in.
If I’d of seen this room before booking I wouldn’t of booked it, as we arrived in the evening it didn’t leave us any option but to stay.
Evening meal menu was very limited and the waitress couldn’t understand what I ordered.
Breakfast wasn’t great for me either although my husband said the cooked food was fine, I ended up with cereal and a cold croissant and there was chopped fruit in individual jars, I say fruit it was mostly cheap apple. I wasn’t the only person who thought they’d been let down by the hotel as we spoke to other guests at breakfast.
This hotel isn’t cheap at £114 a night, we’ve stayed in lots of luxury hotels & B&Bs over the years and paid less then this.

Fabulous overnight stay at this olde worlde hotel on Minchinhampton Common in The Cotswolds. The whole hotel was brilliantly setup for social distancing. Lovely clean and modern rooms and the staff were incredible. All very friendly and particular thanks to Ellie who so cheerily handled my moans about the vegetarian choice and the wine list. She spoke to the chef who made me an amazing red pepper and houmous burger and let us sample the wines before committing to a bottle. She was just brilliant but seriously all the staff were fab and very welcoming of mine and my friends dogs (4 in total). Food was fab - try the Pimms Posset - it’s to die for!

Danny and Lisa were very welcoming and helpful. Room 10 was very spacious, with a comfortable double bed facing the mullioned window with a great view over the valley. (It also has an extra bed in the internal hallway, so would be good for 3 people). The bathroom was clean, with a heated towel rail and reasonable shower over the bath. Good breakfast, cooked to order.
The rooms are single-glazed, so you can hear vehicles on the road in front, but there was very little traffic.

Perfect stay. I have chemical allergy problems and emailed the hotel when booking to ensure no chemicals were used in the room. I accepted/ expected i may react in the rest of the hotel and have to avoid some areas but needed the room to be chemical free. Emails were replied to quickly and extra questions asked. We were put in the garden room ,number 20 , the room was perfect, large space with separate bedroom and living room with a view over the garden ,lovely bathroom with a shower over the bath, no chemical smell anywhere but perfectly clean as was the rest of the hotel. I didn't have breathing problems anywhere in the hotel. The manager told me the name of the products they use so I can get my local pub to change to them. The fruit salad at breakfast was fresh and had different melons, grapes, apple etc , the croissants were dinky but delicious and the coffee was good. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and the bar had a good selection of drinks. It was great to be able to relax and breath easy in this lovely hotel .
