One of a kind experience ⛰️🗻.
Quite and relaxing stay if you want to get away from the city life.
There are plenty of small trails and treks nearby and the caretakers were very polite and helpful.
Food was very good 😋.
I will definitely be going back again.

We went to Ganoli in February 2022 to stay in QR homestay to take a break in our busy fast life. It was not only relaxing, but it rejuvenated our love for nature and ourselves. It was so serene, calm and beautiful. The entire stay was just out of the world. The place, village, homestay and the people, everything was beyond my expectations. And then the icing on the cake was the snowfall we enjoyed. Just 30 km from our homestay, we drove through the transition of rainfall to heavenly snowfall. We could clearly see the raindrops falling on our windscreen changing gradually into snowflakes as we drove higher. The whole experience was so divine and blissful. Our surrounding nature was covered with a white blanket of snow in a short time. It was a remarkable and fascinating sight. It awakened the child inside me and I jumped with joy. We enjoyed hot lunch savoring the sight of snowfall and then returned to QR homestay. There was nothing but pure happiness in my heart.
The entire stay at QR was very relaxing and refreshing. Thank you QR homestay from the core of my heart for giving me an amazing and blissful experience and lovely stay.

QR homestay is nestled in the forests of Uttarakhand. It is for those who seek solitude in the Kumaon hills of Himalayas.
Being a non- trekker, non- outdoors person my experience was absolutely amazing.
Initially I was skeptical to go as I heard after a point no vehicles can reach the place so have to go by foot.
Upon reaching the place it was really worthwhile. The serenity and peaceful ambience can rejuvenate anyone staying there for a week.
Food was home-cooked and delicious, scenic beauty, quite and calm. What better place can a city lady look for then to spend some time among nature.

In my quest for lovely days in the mountains, this time I walked, rather drove to The QR homestay which had been on my bucketlist for quite sometime.
After a long 10 hours drive from NCR, the lush green Kumaon hills post rain were a sight for the sore eyes .
The Ganoli village homestay was comfortable and we were lucky to relish the annual bhandhara for the Saavan month . The revered mandir ,a Shaktipeeth, managed solely by the villagers , experienced a quiet get together of thousands of devotees , respecting the solitude of hills.
The next day, we marched on to the the much anticipated Forest lodge In Qurai village along an adventurous narrow trail amongst the jungle , our local hosts leading us on by making way on the overgrown path as well as lending us hand in need.
And lo and behold , there was the humble Forest lodge , the lone wolf ,perched on a hill, bang in the centre of jungle surrounded by rain soaked mounatins.

The first which came into my mind when i saw it

- A poor man's abode , with a rich man's soul!!! No frills, totally raw experience . Though we were lucky to have atleast 5 hosts fussing over us.
A stone House, Mud floor and wood- made from locally sourced materials by local craftsmen .Pipes carrying water from a local spring ,NO ELECTRICITY but ironically- good Mobile reception!! The simple food, freshly prepared on choolha was soul satisfying. Patience is a virtue which is much needed here keeping in mind that it took at least an hour for our hosts to get the water boiling for humble tea because of wet wood due to rains . Hats off to our hosts, to take it all in their stride with a smile. So, fast paced City dwellers , who expect things at the click of a button ,Need not apply !
A lesson I learnt here,is that a lot of hardwork goes into ROmantiic village life in the mountains which we all yearn for .
A short Trek to the adjacent hill with a humble Bhuma Devi temple( a mere assortment of stoneS under a tree), braving the wet trail and the leeches ,took us to the vantage point of breath-taking lush pine clad mountains with a a carpet of clouds . Night brought to us the experience of lantern lit dinner ( even khichdi tasted like rajbhog) And our hosts regaling us with the folklores of Bagh Sightings in the vicinity .

A place where Time Stands still- A trip to remember !!

Room tip: Carry a charged Power bank As there is

I traveled with my family, intending to expose my kids to nature and how villagers live in that surroundings. For kids, it was to satisfy inquiring minds and have fun. They were able to relate with village kids in no time.
I had enough time to sit ideal and observe changing shadows of pine, cloud formation, and glimpses of the snow-laden the great Himalaya.
The smell of pine, the sound of the breeze, the bath with a two-bucket cold stream water, and the moon rise between the hillocks had got imprinted.
Simple, tasty village food served added flavor to the overall experience. Caretakers were always available but would maintain enough distance to make you feel that you were alone in that world.
This place is not a tourist spot. If you want to appreciate nature raw with minimal human interference, then this is the place you need to visit.

Persistent luring by Amiya, persuading hesitant Manju and generous offer of pickup and drop by Pankaj in his brand new Tata Safari took 4 of us to the wonderland of Uttarakhand hills for a 3 nights stay with Kailashji and family in their QR Homestay.
Journeys both ways were a bit longish but made easy by comfortable vehicle, good company with Amiya showering Gyan all the way and excellent food joints on the way.
The tiredness of the 12hours long journey quickly vanished with a very hospitable welcome and sipping hot cups of tea in the forecourt of the Homestay at village Ganoli overlooking the vast valley of Kumaon Hills. Dinner was sumptuous, served under moonlight with lights of Ranikhet and several small hamlets shining across the valley. The bed was extremely comfortable.
Sunrise was early at 5.30am and after several cups of hot tea went out for morning walk on the winding road from Ganoli towards Surkheti.
Post breakfast, I had the opportunity to see Amiya at work attending to scores of patients with mental health issues from far and near villages at Camp Kumaon of Manas Foundation.
Trip to Amiya's Forest Cabin at Qurai was finalized with initial trepidation, walking on the narrow mountain trail was exciting but fraught with danger, but reaching there was exhilarating and breathtaking. The support team collected the firewood, lit up the fire, served tea and then cooked and served delicious lunch partly served on the leaves collected and cleaned in front of us. It was just amazing. Return journey was delayed on account of rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm. But the wait was rewarded by the motley group huddled in the dark lit room (No Electricity) and entertained by the bhajans sung in folk local folk tunes by the ladies in the support team.
Next day, morning walk took us to the highest point in the area called Vidiu where a Dhuni and Meditation Room is located in a vast Bugyal - a meadow surrounded by a 360 degree view of the mountain range across the valley. Sunrise view of the distant mountain range was not possible because of the haze. After visiting Mrityunjaya Temple in the town of Dwarahat about 16kms away, a repeat visit to Vidiu at sunset was mesmerizing and a treat for ameteur photographers in us.
Night was relaxing and next day, early in the morning, we were given a warm send off by Kailashji and his support team of Shamu and Soni.
IN NUTSHELL, IF ONE UNDERSTANDS THE CONCEPT OF HOMESTAY IN UNEXPLORED AREAS, A FEW DAYS STAY AT QR HOMESTAY IS ABUNDANTLY REWARDING IN TERMS LOCATION, FACILITIES, TRAILS AND LOCAL CUISINE.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Uttarakhand, this lodging experience has been thoughtfully curated for a tranquil stay.
Rooms are clean and neatly decorated with focus on local decor. Toilet facilities meet western standards.
The owner and his family live close by and provided a very welcoming atmosphere. Food served was delicious and lovingly prepared hill cuisine.
Sitting in the front yard, eating pakoras and sipping tea, while looking out to the expansive view of the valley and far away mountains is a heavenly experience.
Short scenic hikes from the property lead to nearby temples, villages, waterfalls and even a small cottage tucked away in the hills where the adventurous may choose to spend a night or two in complete isolation from humanity.
The locals are friendly and welcoming.
The air is crisp and clean.
The scenery is divine.
I will visit again and so should you.
