We recently stayed for 3 nights and it was wonderful. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The food was excellent. We dined in the restaurant one evening and was not disappointed. Breakfast every morning was wonderful and to top it off we watched red squirrels whilst we dined.

Excellent hotel and deserves its 5 stars on tripadvisor. A small family-ran hotel with impeccable service but not too overbearing. Our room was comfy and we dined two out of three nights. The menu was exciting and the food was excellent and Michelin star quality for half the price. It's a short drive from Keswick and Buttermere is worth a...

My wife and I visited the Cottage in the Woods for our wedding anniversary. We stayed for three nights and could not have been happier with our stay. Location: In the heart of the Lake District. Easy to find despite being tucked away in the woods with beautiful views across the hills. You don't come here for a quick walk...

Fantastic welcome , fantastic food , fantastic room . We cannot wait to go back .I lost my love for the lakes after a lot of bad hotels and bed and breakfasts but Kathy and her staff have changed all that from the minute you walk through the door to when you leave nothing is a problem . You must...

We had a fantastic time here in August on our 'Foodie' trip through the North. Our stay was sandwiched between L'enclume and Holbeck Ghyll, and in terms of the food it certainly wasn't hidden. While L'enclume has the theatre and 'experience' aspect of dining, what Kath and her small team produced was nothing short of incredible, and of the three...

Gorgeous little stay at The Cottage in the Wood. Incredible location, the views on the drive up were stunning, tranquil bliss. The room was diddy but lovely, very warm and cosy. Excellent customer service and a very relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The evening meal was absolutely amazing, each dish was a piece of art (see pictures) and so so tasty... a...

We visited for 2 days in February, during Storm Doris. The hotel was warm and welcoming despite the cold and wind outside. Our room was modern but a little small, especially the bathroom. The dining experience is excellent but is fine dining so portions are not large. The service is very friendly and attentive.Breakfast was very good and accompanied by...

My husband and I just got back after 2 fabulous nights at Cottage in the Wood. The whole experience was fantastic, with snow capped mountains and red squirrels to watch at breakfast, not to mention the amazing food and first class service. A massive thank you.

Oh my, what a little gem! The whole experience exuded quality. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms which was small but perfect. The decor was clean and bright, with crisp white bedding. One of my pet hates in a hotel is inadequate lighting but in our room we had a main light as well as three lamps which...

Arrived for a 3 night stay on valentines day. This is a wonderful hotel, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Whinlatter Forest. The welcome is as warming as the cosy wood burner in the small, tastefully decorated lounge. Our room (the Garden Room) was beautifully decorated with a view that looks down towards Skiddaw and Blencathra. It was a...
