The place is quite away from the mainland. The cottages are fine but the location of the extra bed in the cottages is not very ergonomic. It becomes quite congested and the and the fan and the AC fail to cool it, so if you are a 3 people group, do consider.
The food is good but the room service was a bit slow, mainly because the hotel is spread out and being cut into parts by the backwaters.

Rooms are Maintained well. Good food and good staff. Enjoyed a lovely nature visit in small islands..kids had a nice time in going from island to other on the boat...also the Ayurveda spa centre has very good relax massages which we can try.

Coir Village resort is far off from Alapuzha.. it is almost cut off from city. Good place to relax and unwind , good place for travelers during last phase of their Kerela tour when one is tired and needs to relax before getting back to work. a lot also depends on which cottage one gets, as some of them can have a very a annoying view. the place is an asbolutely no no for some one who likes to walk, be connected with world etc. rooms do not have wifi , the cottages are on island and hence there is a need of a small boat ever time one wants to cross. Food is good, simple but avoid the buffet rather order as per taste and liking of individual ( though not much options available). walk in coir village is good, people are friendly and would even allow you to try hand on making coir ropes. good place for people who like to do bird and macro photography. Cottage room are average and not well maintained. Only person to thank a lot is person ferrying you across the river (from cottage to reception and dining area), he does it with a smile.

We were forced to stay one night at the Coir Village lake Resort during an Exodus trip to Southern India.

Our guide had previously offered us an extra night on a house boat in lieu of stopping here and we opted to go to the hotel on the assumption that it could not be that bad...unfortunatly it was that bad, I wish we had stopped on the boat.

This is really unfortunate as the hotel has a prime location on a couple of islands in the lake and could be a fantastic spot, despite there being nothing to do, except sit in the sun.

The service was truly shocking, especially in the resturant. We were advised to order food 4 hours in advance of a meal time to give them enough time to source the food and cook it. Even with this ridiculous amount of for warning we still waited an hour for our food and some of our party recieved nothing with no explanation. The waiting staff just appeared clueless with no comprehension of how to wait or deal with customers. It was like they had been dragged in off the street just for one night.

The bungalow style rooms were very very basic, with no hot running water and rust stained cold. The tiles were cracked, the beds stained and in some rooms, the ants were having a field day building a massive nest. It rained during our short stay and many of the rooms had leaks, leading to a musty damp smell.

Due to a national strike on our day of departure, we were glad to get out of the place at 2am, having been treated to a shocking display of racism by the hotel manager, directed at both our Indian guide and some of our all white party. I suspect that as a result of this, his hotel is now off the Exodus list?

I am loathed to give this place even 1 star, but I have to in order to leave a review. Please think very carefully before booking this hotel. I do not leave bad reviews often, this place is a real exception.

It was terrible experience at Coir Village, Alleppey.

I have booked this hotel (AC Cottage - 12 March 2014) through Heena Tour & Travels, Mumbai and believe their suggestion of this hotel for which I suffer a lot.

First of all this resort is not in Alleppey. It is one and half hour drive from Alleppey. You (your driver) can easily lost.

When we reach resort in afternoon after long drive from Thekkady, we have been assigned cottage 924 (if I am not wrong) it was in very small, terrible state. AC was not working properly, TV not working, Bathroom was broken, ants everywhere, dirty curtains, broken electric switch, broken furniture....

I had asked manager to change my room and assigned new one 904 (again if I am not wrong) and story is same as earlier room.

We have called our agent (Heena Tours) and asked for change of hotel, but they are not at supportive and telling me that they are taking to manager and getting it clean.

Manager had offered another room (smaller than cottage) at end of resort which cleaner than cottage but was stinking.

I have checked-out within approx. 1 hour and paid for another hotel on my own. Most important is that, we have lost that evening due to this horrible experience(and travelling to and from resort - appox 3 hours).

I recommend you not to choose this resort and also don't believe Heena Tour & Travels, Mumbai of they offer this resort. Heena Tour had promised me to get my money back within week but I have not received it yet.

The Coir Village Resort is in a lovely location on the backwaters but only stay here if you want to relax, there is nothing here and it's a long way from Alleppey itself. The rooms are shocking, no hot water or wi-fi and you have to get a boat each time you want to cross from the reception/restaurant area to your room. This is quite quaint the first couple of times but you quickly wonder why on earth no one thought to build a bridge! Breakfast was appalling - half a dozen lads standing around but almost nothing worth eating. On the plus side, the thali we had here for lunch was one of the best we had in south India.

Rooms okay, but no hot water available. No wifi. rooms have small terrace (no privacy) with view over the backwaters. Rooms do not have full double bed.

Some of the hotel rooms only accessable by boat. Restaurant okayish. Breakfast simple.

assessment does not take into account the price since hotel was visited in a package holiday. Price therefore unknown.
