This was one of the most amazing vacations we have ever had. Minnie and her staff were a joy to be around. They provided world class service, and made sure we had everything we needed a all times. Joyce and Maurice provide wonderful food service, and Johnson our guide was extremely knowledgeable, and friendly. Our tent was wonderful, the food was great. I can't imagine a better time.

Every single aspect of our stay at Kicheche Valley Camp was fantastic. Minnie and her staff were incredible hosts. Bernard was our guide for 4 days, and we were so impressed by his knowledge of the animals, plants and area. He went above and beyond and enabled us to see and experience so many animals and their habitats. The meals were amazing and our tent rooms were divine. We were a family of 5 (3 kids ages 15-22), and we all (unanimously) did not want to leave Kicheche Valley Camp!

Kicheche provided an amazing experience for my family. We were greeted by Minnie, the Camp Manager, and Mama Rachel, who took care of every last detail to ensure we felt welcomed and cared for. The common areas are open and lovely, and the way it was set up made it easy to get to know and chat with the other visitors. Nelson and Joyce took ensured we had anything and everything we wanted to eat and drink along the way. Don’t forget to try Joyce’s Hippo Dream cocktail. She concocted it, and it is yummy! The tents are beautiful and comfortable. You are in the middle of the reserve, and my son woke up to a giraffe snacking on a tree outside of his bathroom window one night! So cool. We also heard the extraordinary guttural calls of male lions courting a female lion in heat. They have great security, and you’re totally safe, but the animals are right there. We lucked out getting Johnson as our guide and spotter. Or more likely, our incredible travel agent, Lisa Marsden of XA African Safaris worked that magic. He’s our family now. Biggest smile, best laugh, incredibly knowledgeable about the animals, trees, birds and plants on the reserve. He was a total joy to be around. He also made sure we got our fill of baby lions and elephants!

We spent three nights in tent #6. Our guide Bernard showed us all of the big five amongst a large diversity of animal and birds. His skills as a tracker and photographer made our drives and walk memorable. In the camp, the welcome and ongoing conversations with managers Minnie and Rachel were warm and always informative. Their team includes some lovely characters, notably Nelson, Joyce and Roy, as well as others we had less contact with. They make you feel very much at home. The food in the main lodge and picnics was very good. The accommodation is spacious and well thought out, it is quite something to hear lions through the night and watch the comings and goings in the valley in the day. If we choose a safari holiday again in this region, Kicheche Valley Camp would be top of the list for a return visit.

We stayed at two of the Kicheche camps starting at the Valley Camp. We were met at the airstrip which made us feel like real adventurers and then were driven to the camp. This is a well organised, professional operation with a friendly, welcoming staff that cannot do enough for guests. When we arrived at our tent there was a beautiful personal welcome made with flowers on our bed! The tents are luxurious in every detail. The food is more than delicious and we were given the choice of dining with the other guests or on our own at an assigned table. Prior to dinner we gathered around a fire for drinks and snacks. Minnie the manager was a wonderful host and an interesting person. We all warmed to her, as well as her colleagues and the guides, not just our own but the others. Having coffee (a fabulous Kenyan variety) with guides and staff gave it a family atmosphere while allowing individual groups to enjoy a personal experience. All the guides and all but specialist staff are Maasai. The guides are specially trained in a rigorous three year course and know absolutely everything, not only about the animals but birds as well. Part of their community engagement is an arrangement for visiting with a Maasai village for which the village receives the income. The visit was one of the highlights and gave us many insights into Maasai culture and some context for the safaris as well. In the end, this is a safari so special praise needs to go to our guide Johnson. His knowledge was encyclopedic and as essential his spotting skills while driving were impressive. He could even spot small birds at a great distance without binoculars. He also had a great sense of humour and as safaris involve dangerous animals we knew we were in completely safe hands. We highly recommend!

We were recommended to stay at Kicheche Valley Camp by Audley Travel who organised our first Safari trip. From the moment we were met at the airstrip, the team could not do enough for us. We had Bernard as our guide for the 4 days and he took us out twice a day on an adventure to see what we could find. He was so knowledgeable and seemed to have an uncanny knack of knowing where to look for the animals. By the second day we had already been up close with lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetah and leopard, not to mention all the antelope, warthogs, ostrich, topi, eland, mongeese and wildebeest. We were within 10 yards of all of them. The conservancy limits the number of vehicles to a maximum of 5 around any animal, so the animals were all very relaxed. Our accommodation (tents) take glamping to a new level, with en-suite shower, solar heated water, wonderful views over the valley, a hot water bottle every night and tea or coffee brought to us every morning before we set off on our drive. The food is all cooked on site by the amazing team, delicious and plentiful. All washed down with a choice of drinks. I have already mentioned our guide, Bernard, but I also want to mention Minnie, the manager and her support manager Rachel, they were there every morning to see us off and greet us when we returned. Alex looked after our tent and brought us tea every morning, whatever time we needed one! Joyce and Nelson attended to our every need at lunch and dinner and never let our glasses stay empty for long. We came on safari as a trip of a lifetime and we have left wondering how and when we can book our next trip. Finally, a note on what we might have done next time we come (hopefully). Several people stayed at two or more Kicheche camps and booked a walk between camps with a night in a fly camp, I would definitely recommend this if you can, everyone who had done it really enjoyed the experience.

This was the most amazing safari experience! The camp is often surrounded by different forms of wildlife. We had lions right outside our tents. The star of everything is definitely the staff. Minnie is the most fabulous host, coming to greet you after every drive and leading you to Joyce who makes the most delicious cocktails and drinks and always meets you with a smile. Our guide Mika, was so knowledgable about every animal, bird, tree etc and could predict the movements of the animals so we always got an amazing view. I cannot recommend this camp enough. We loved it!!!

A wonderful stay again at Kicheche Valley in Naboisho. My husband and I were looked after so well by all the camp staff. The food was superb and the overall hospitality was excellent. The tents are spacious, spotlessly clean and recently refurbished. We send special thanks to Minnie, Bernard( fabulous guide), Stella, Joyce, Maurice,Nelson and George.

We were a group of seven friends who stayed at Kicheche Valley for three nights in early June. With just 6 tents, Kicheche Valley is an intimate camp that sits just below the ridge line, hidden from view but right in the thick of the Mara’s wildlife. Prides of lion frequently reside on the other side of the small valley from Kicheche Valley and are sometimes visible from the camp’s main living and dining areas. Sit on the deck of your tent and you will see zebra walk by during the day and hear hippo munching away at night. During our stay, we spent significant time with lion prides and saw leopard, cheetah, elephant, zebra, giraffe, warthogs, hippo, wildebeest, crocodiles, etc. Suffice to say, Kicheche Valley offers exceptional access to the best that the Mara has to offer. Our guide during our stay was Mika. His knowledge and enthusiasm was perhaps the best we saw having been to three other camps on this visit. While all of our prior guides were very good, Mika set himself apart by explaining the techniques and experience he was using to track and find animals. He gave us transparency and that, in turn, taught us more about the wildlife and their behavior. We also learned about the geography and geology of the Mara as well. In brief, I simply cannot say enough good things about Mika and our experience. Special moments on safari include: 1) watching a leopard in a tree protect her kill from two lionesses waiting below, 2) spending a morning with two lions, two lionesses and their 5 cubs at play, 3) sitting in the middle of a ‘journey’ of 30 giraffe as they walked down a valley, and 4) watching the dismantling of a carcass by jackals, hyena and vultures. Back at camp, the very kind and elegant Minnie was our hostess. Minnie and her crew gave us a very warm welcome upon our arrival and took excellent care of us throughout our stay. We all thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the food, the drink and the heartfelt hospitality. The six tents are all clean and well appointed. The tents have solar heated water and electricity at night for lights and charging devices. We also found the beds themselves to be among the most comfortable that we had experienced on our journey. Finally, I would highlight the very special sundowner that Minnie and Joyce organized in the bush on our last night - the group loved it! I would also like to make a special call out for Faith, the massage therapist. While many safari camps offer spa treatments, my experience is that they are more often a ‘miss’ rather than a ‘hit’. In this case, Faith delivered an excellent deep tissue massage and I could not have been more pleased. Thank you so much to Minnie, Mika, Joyce, Nelson, Morris (‘Mr. Drinks’), Faith, James and all of the others that made our stay so enjoyable and memorable.
