We were having a terrific holiday, having spent time in Chateau Garli, Dharamshala and Palampur. Decided to spend a day in Bir at Colonel’s Resort on a friend’s recommendation. Booked on phone. 7500 a day per Superior room. Two rooms On arrival find there is nothing superior or deluxe about rooms. These are terribly kept like army barracks. Beds are makeshift which creak and are ready to fall apart. Bare furniture. Dirty bathrooms with insects Toiletries picked up from footpath. No hand towels. Terrible with zero care for basic hygiene We were told food order has been placed as per colonel’s choice. Ripped apart when we got the bill for these home meals. A Paneer dish at Rs 650 - what do they feel- they are running an Oberoi property? Next day it’s raining heavily. But we start getting phone calls at 9 am- when are you checking out? After three calls were practically forced to leave in heavy rain. No sign of host. The only good feel we had was the son- he was polite and helpfully guided us. At 7500 per night it’s a terrible experience. One feels fleeced and it seems the management has devil may care attitude. A blip on perfect holiday we are continuing in Manali and now Zanskar.

We spent an absolutely delightful 10 days at this beautiful resort at the end of June this year. A family run-property it provides a charming holiday experience whether you want just an escape from the heat of the plains, or if you're looking for some adventure in terms of para-gliding, trekking etc, or even if you want a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. We did all three so speak from experience! One runs short of superlatives to describe the natural ambience of the surroundings, the courteous ever helpful staff, the tastefully done rooms (which even have a flat screen TV...if you like your tele-viewing a lot!), The food served was fresh and delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the Himachali-dishes so thoughtfully served on a couple of occasions. The open deck-area in front of the dining room provides a wonderful space to interact with othe fellow residents and share travel experiences. The USP of the place undoubtedly is the owner Colonel JP himself...the warmth and involvement displayed by him and even his other family members takes the hospitality of the place many notches higher. The number of repeat guests who keep coming back here itself speaks volumes about the endearing quality of the place. A word about the rooms (we stayed in both the deluxe and super-deluxe ones)…in our personal experience the deluxe rooms with their charming names like Dhauladhar, Zen, Rhododendron etc are just perfect if you want to simply relax and unwind sitting with a book in the verandah into which each room opens. Watch the varied species of birds feasting on the fruit trees in front or enjoy the beautiful hydrangea bushes lining the verandah...it was delightful! Also they are on the ground floor. The super deluxe rooms on the first floor are also very tastefully done and have air-conditioning, plus boast a full view of the valley from the huge bay windows lining one full wall.

It's a beautiful resort, well maintained. Rooms were comfortable, the view was superb and the food was awesome. Some negative points- no play room for kids, no room service. Staff was rude at times. Definitely recommend for staying with family

Beautiful resort nestled amidst nature. Excellent food and tea, fresh from the farm. Special thanks to Colonel sir and madam for their warm hospitality and for giving us a homely feel. Enthusiastic staff and lovely dog Ginger and the horses. One of the best places to stay in Bir.

I had booked a holiday for my birthday. I was travelling with my mother. So I wanted a safe, secure, green, homely stay. Colonels was suggested by a friend. The place oozes warmth. It's extremely peaceful, covered with greenery. They serve lip smacking hot food. The day before I left, I was asked for my meal preference for all the 3 meals. Colonel and his team are extremely helpful and efficient. They helped in getting my paragliding arranged. They have a beautiful, friendly pet, called ginger. He is one of the cutest pets I have seen. Just being around him makes one feel relaxed and calm. The rooms were huge and clean.

There is a famous quote by Jeffrey Rasley: “Chasing angels or fleeing demons, go to the mountains.” I would love to modify it little and say "Chasing angels or fleeing demons, go to Colonel's Resort in Bir.” Five of us, old buddies from a boarding school love to travel together to keep the child in us alive. As Tim Cahill says a journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles,” we took our sojourn to Bir, for a laid back stay in Colonel's Resort. As we arrived after a picturesque drive from Kangra Airport to Bir into the Resort, a subtle sense of serenity and class greeted us. Promot came the staff to settle us down. Soon, the doughty Colonel and his elegant lady come in to welcome us, and she straightaway censured the waiter for serving beer in wrong glass. I owned up my impatience to pour bear in water glasses, and bailed the waiter out. The Resort is beautifully nestled in midst Colonel's private Tea estate, and merges into surrounding so well. As Mrs Singh, tells us about the Gun Stone, that went into making the lounge look so proud we appreciated it's fusion with pinewood and glass. Jotinder Pal(JP) and Pratibha Singh, as we know them now are finely groomed couple, descendents of a thoroughbred family of Pal Rajputs who once ruled this part of hilly state. The hospitality seems to have run down the line. Four days that we stayed, both were always on watch and comforting guests. And, I can't miss out mentioning Ginger, a rare breed dog whose love quest is on. She plays around with two ponies in JP's stables, and keep the guests amused. What touched each one of us was the cuisines, which JP personally indulges in. Every day the spread is fusion of local delicacies and trendy stuff. I loved the cakes and desserts JP churned out for us. "Khatta Meat" and Yakhani Chicken were delightful. Mornings, we saw the tea leaves being dried. The vintage English machine in JP's Tea Factory was installed by his grandfather, better known as Bara Sahab. It was delightful aroma to eat with your breakfast in the morning in overlooking lounge. Evenings are lit up with Bon Fire, local music and spirits from Colonel's bar. The resort is patronised by sprituality practitioners, young adventurers, entrepreneurs, nature lovers and leisure timers like us. It adds to the serenity of the place. Our stay of four days just flew and we didn't have enough of Colonel's Resort. Ye Dil Mange More.

Bir is one of the best hill stations we have been to and Colonel’s resort is the finest one in Bir. We had booked for 3 nights but at the end of day 3, we wanted to extend our stay. Colonel and his staff are very helpful and friendly. They ensured our stay was pleasant and comfortable. The resort is surrounded by mountains and has a very scenic view. They have lovely and super friendly pets. The bornfire at night along with star gazing was one of the best experience. The food prepared is as per your liking and delicious. We had a great time going on a nice long walk with Colonel. Strongly recommend this resort for stay over if visiting Bir. We miss Bir and Colonel’s hospitality!! ! the resort's location is so beautiful, surrounded by mountains. waking up to the beautiful skies and clouds was the best part! bonfire at night and star gazing, absolutely best. we miss out looking at stars in the busy city life, this was the best getaway from all of the chaos. so very peaceful and calming. the hospitality was great, we were served with hot meals and tea whenever we'd asked for. the two horses and ginger (a dog) definitely deserve a shout out for being a source of entertainment :') Colonel personally looked into our stay, made us feel welcome and comfortable. would recommend everyone to go visit this resort if they're thinking of staying in Bir... or even if they aren't make it a point to stay here! the rooms are so quaint. personally designed by the Colonel's wife. appreciate everything they did for us during our stay!
