The Hotel building and grounds were beautiful but however I feel that the interior of the hotel was tired and needs a serious freshen up. Our room had some nice bits of old furniture but was basic and didn’t feel like I expected it to be. I was also extremely disappointed with our view out of our window a brick wall and bin store!!! To top it off when the receptionist asked if everything was okay at check out and I mentioned I was disappointed with the view she chose to ignore my comments (She obviously had heard it before and chose not to comment).

We booked this trip to see the Christmas Market and The Forest of Lights. Our stay was very enjoyable comfortable rooms and lovely place to eat in the grounds (Stables) where food was cooked to order and of excellent quality.

Stayed for 2 nights to visit nearby Beamish Museum. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful from check in to check out. Especially during a short power cut on our second day. Rooms are a good size and decorated in a way to reflect the nature of the hall. Eat in the Stables Restaurant on both nights, which serves generous potions of good food at a reasonable price. Breakfast in the same place was an excellent start to the day. Special mention to Justine, in the Stables Bar, for her friendly and welcoming nature.

Our room was clean supposedly deluxe ,a bit tired but acceptable. It was top front right with dual aspect we were kept awake by the external noise of taxis, cars and loud voices more than half the night. No lift, only one heater in room, poor breakfast We cut our losses and checked out after one night
