We took a day trip to Kolaghat on a flash decision. What came out was a mixed bag of experiences. This is an unbiased review highlighting the pros and cons you need to know before you visit, . The Pros & Cons are: Various people have mixed behaviours, and the support staff are far more cordial than senior managers here. Maintenance: Room maintenance is poor, but rooms are good. Lawn and property are kept clean, no complaints. We were taken to an unclean room at first, but on complaining, it was changed. Pool Pool is simply heavenly, especially in the rain. We had a great time there. Food Food quality is poor and stale, even though there are many people in the resort. The crispy corn clearly gave us a stale flavor. This was a complaint heard from others who stayed here as well. Plus we found that the food was served soon after we ordered, making us suspect if the food was pre-cooked. Breakfast (not buffet) has a few options only (Bread-jam/Uttapam/Puri-Bhaji) which were all freshly cooked. Food prices are average to high, we paid about Rs.3000 for three persons for dinner only. We had lunch outside. Prices Prices are unreasonable, people are charged very differently and the management does not care if you come or not (at least right now). Disappointing Pre-visit communication A few days back a friend had visited and stayed at Rs. 3300 all in (with breakfast) for 3 persons. When we called we were asked to pay Rs. 6000 or 6500 for two room categories. When we pointed out the discrepancy the GM was not bothered even to explain. He told us "We may have given for free also, but this is the best price for you now", and he said we must have confused with some other resort, but later confirmed this was the same resort when we showed him pictures from our friends visit. We were calling to book on the same day when we came but the GM of the resort did not really care whether anyone comes or not. They have many people coming at this time and don't need to talk much about it. However, times change and the attitude of the GM was not helping. The attitude was quite clear ... No body cares whether you're there or not. Rooms & maintenance Initially we were taken to Rm 201 which was not cleaned, finally We stayed in Room 203 for one night and this room is really good. TV had free channels only, AC was good, Telephone in some rooms do not work(which we found out later from other boarders), but from this room the phone was ok. Room service was fast and there was Mr Deepak (staff member) who kept asking us for well being, leaving a good impression. Sadly we missed him next morning when we came out. Check in/check out was simple. Thats all guys. That's my experience for this place …
We had visited this resort with family members who are all aged. The first thing that struck us was that there is no Lift and we were allotted rooms in 2nd floor. Going up and down the stairs for the aged people was not very easy.Even the dining room had to be reached by climbing the stairs. 2ndly the amenities like the geyser and the door knobs were faulty. So instead of relaxing we had to call the staff every time to fix the things. The bed linen was also stained. On the 2nd day we were allotted rooms on the ground floor. The regulator of the fan was not working in the room, which again had to be fixed. At night the Ac of one of the rooms stated leaking which again had to be fixed. So it was more of calling the room service and fixing things rather than enjoying a relaxed holiday without any headache. On the positive side the staff were very helpful and polite, they attended to all our problems as soon as we complained. The basic Amenities of the resort are very faulty which needs immediate attention, otherwise the resort has a very beautiful view, the food is awesome.…
Went there yesterday. The location and the hotel is good but the environment is totally unhealthy. Bunch of drunkards behaving like hooligans and drinking openly in the public pool. Certainly not a family place to be at. Moreover the pool is filthy dirty. However the location good and staff is satisfactory. Would not want to be there. Unfortunate night spent.
I have made confirmed booking vide above referred booking no. at Ruposhi Rupnarayan Kuthi for 28/03/2021. But unfortunately they have cancelled the same towards overpricing issue, as they are still available directly. So please don't make any booking through any travel partner specially on weekends or any occasion. As at any time the greedy management of this property can cancel your booking and harrass you even after reaching there.
The food: Just wonderful. It was so good that we may visit this place again just for a lunch. And it is a good 70 kms from our home. Yes, they are costly. But we know that good food comes with a price and we were happy to spend on it. The Shorshe Eelish was just yum. The staff: My wife was impressed by their behavior, and trust me, she is not easily impressed. HSB Kolaghat's staff are not even comparable with the staff here. May be, HSB Taki's staff can run parallel to them, but definitely not HSB Kolaghat. The room: May be not as spacious as HSB Kolaghat, but then again we did not have to walk for 5 minutes from our room to reach the lawn or the pool. I am going to visit this place again in a fortnight to check out the rooms on the Megh. The whole resort is divided into four segments and each segment has got its own name. The architect must be very poetic. This resort will rise, above HSB.…
I went with my family (including a pet) for a day-trip to Kolaghat, and chanced upon this beautiful property,by the side of Rupnarayan River. The ergonomically designed property is well maintained, the staff congenial and well mannered. The rooms are spacious , the decor aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and the food delicious. So, in my opinion the tariff is well worth the offering.
Stayed for a night to this property on 25th Dec 2020 along with my elderly parent. I was Concern on the hygiene and safety part while traveling along with aged companion of 80s. I had plan B of coming back to Kolkata if it does not match with the expectation. I did the booking directly calling the number shared on web. If anyone just want to come out of there home for a day or two which is not far away from Kolkata it’s the best place. My elderly parent are not very comfortable with the long journey so this was apt for us. Experience of the rooms were good. This property still has some work going on the construction part however that dint disturbed the guests. We got ground floor room as they don’t have lift or ramp for elderly guests. The room was spacious. Well maintained with amenities. The lawn was the main place where we spent maximum time with tea and snacks. Early in the morning also we were able to access the lawn with tea. Staffs were courteous and helpful. They have nice terrace along with the restaurant but we couldn’t access as it was at 1st floor. Restaurant was spacious and with amenities. Very quiet peaceful and relaxing time we spent there. We will visit this place in future. Special mention Soumen who served us was very polite and active listener. Mr Sayantan who took the booking was very much approachable for help.…
Located on the bank of River Rupnarayan, this place is a must visit weekend destination. Though we went for a day outing, one can always opt to stay overnight. Since we had booked a day outing package (min. 6 pax) we were given a complimentary room with direct view of the river. Rooms are well maintained with linens near and tidy. Washroom was also clean. Food was tasty without a doubt. However the service was bit slow, which after our interaction with the manager we came to know was due to the sudden crowd during covid-19 which they were not expecting. One can also visit the abode of Great Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay which is ~20mins by car from the resort. All in all Rupasi Rupnaryan Kuthi is a lovely and must visit place away from the hustle of the city.
After 8 months of being locked down at home, it was breather to drive into Rupasi Rupnarayan Kuthi in Kolaghat on the banks of River Rupnarayan. We walked into spotlessly clean resort with soothing tune of Rabindrasangeet by Kabir Suman. The widespread lawn overlooking the river amidst winter sun had all the essence of refreshing our weary souls. We were received with a warm welcome by the friendly staff and the manager, making us feel at home. The food was good and reasonably priced with very good service, an experience totally opposite to the next door Sonar Bangla Hotel, which we had unfortunately visited in the past. In Sonar Bangla staff are very ill-behaved serving half-cooked food at an exorbitant price. This Rupasi Rupnarayan Kuthi was a welcome change. If you are planning on a short weekend trip, this resort would live up to your expectations.…
This will be a long review, so I am giving the summary of my opinion in the next sentence. If you are a big group of more than 10 people or you are going on a weekend or peak season when there might be a lot of people, please avoid Rupasi Rupnarayan Kuthi (RRK) at all cost. Only go there if you want to ruin your trip. You should better book the Sonar Bangla next door even if it costs more. If it is fully booked like it was for our case, then look for some other place. I have detailed the reasons for this opinion below. There are several good things about RRK but in our case the bad experiences overwhelmingly overshadowed all those good things. I would have given a zero star if it was possible. Our group was of 33 people including 10 children and one infant and we booked 11 rooms for one night and paid Rs 76000 in total. We visited the hotel on 12th and 13th Dec 2020. CONS Amenities: - They provide only 500 ml drinking water per guest with the room. Any extra water is bottled water for which the guests need to pay Rs 30 per liter. They have water purifier for their restaurant but apparently that drinking water cannot be provided in the room. When I asked for purified / filtered water that can be provided free of charge, one hotel staff suggested that he can fill the bottles with the water from the local tube well. Terrible. We certainly had to pay for the drinking water after paying Rs 6200 per room (including food). This seemed like just a money- making ploy. I have been to many hotels in my life and never saw such arrangement for drinking water. - The bathroom door lock was broken / not functioning for room no 209, 211, 216 and 217 - The mixer for the shower in the bathroom for room no 217 was broken - The intercom phone for room service in room 217 was not working - Electric kettle was not there in two rooms even though it was agreed during the booking that it will be there in all the rooms. They were not provided even after requesting repeatedly 4-5 times. - The rooms did not have mini fridge. With our room rate it is expected to be there. You get those in Sonar Bangla next door for such rooms. - The room service no and wifi password was not provided in the rooms or the food menu in the rooms. One had to go to the reception to know them. This is a basic thing which is provided in all hotels. Service: The service alone deserves a zero rating. Details below. - It seemed there was a lack of staffs. However, more than the number what impacted the service severely was the staff attitude. Most of them are not well trained to serve the guests. For every small request they were pushing back and giving excuses and we had to repeatedly tell them 4-5 times before the request was fulfilled after mostly a long wait. - We had more than 20 luggage which were heavy but we had to carry most of them ourselves to and from our first and second floor rooms both during check in and check out. There were not enough staffs or to say willingness from staffs to carry our luggage. - The room floors were not clean during check in. They were cleaned only after we specifically requested them to be cleaned. - Some of the bathrooms were not cleaned properly or did not have the proper equipment. We had to request staffs repeatedly for cleaning and providing the equipment. Room 218 bathroom commode had water iron stains which seemed old and did not go even after cleaning. - On the first day, the hotel management did not allow us to use the swimming pool with our own swimwear even giving the excuse of covid. We said you can sanitize our swimwear yourselves and then only we will use it. But that was not allowed as well. They said that we have to buy swimwear from them to use the swimming pool. We did not use it on the first day. On the second day, we saw another group using their own swimwear and when one of us enquired about it they allowed him as well to use his own swimwear to go to the swimming pool without sanitizing. Which shows there is no standard policy for everyone and proposing to buy swimwear was a money-making ploy hidden under the excuse of covid. - I requested to boil rice and potato in my own pressure cooker for my seven month old son as he cannot eat outside food and the staffs made a lot of fuss before serving that request on both days. I have accompanied my friends with infant babies in other hotels and nowhere else staffs made so much fuss about attending the needs for an infant. - When we wanted to sit in the lawn for evening snacks it took ages to set up chairs and tables there even after we agreed about this with the general manager. We had to bring some of the chairs from our rooms in first floor and second floor ourselves as we were frustrated with the delay. - On the second day, the resort was full and the service in the restaurant was pathetic. There were long waits for puris in the breakfast counter. The tea was pathetic. The puris were coated with black powder as they used the same old oil for all the puris. - The children and some adults accompanying them went for lunch at 2.30 pm. They had to wait for 30 minutes before being served even when our meal order was pre-decided as it was part of a package. The ladies pleaded repeatedly that children were hungry and restless and they should serve them quickly. They not only ignored their request but also misbehaved with some of them. While serving to the kids the staff were very reluctant to serve the agreed amount fearing the quantity might fall short for the later group. The ladies had to request them repeatedly to serve more and the staffs did it very reluctantly. - For the second group for the remaining adults which came to lunch at 4 pm, again it was a 15 minutes wait before being served. Knowing their service by now, we agreed to serve everything ourselves except for the mutton which we requested to serve in a small bowl to each one. They said they don’t have so many bowls to serve our big group. - There were only three one-liter glass bottle which were only half filled up on the table for 20 people and there were no glasses on the table to drink water. We requested for glasses 4-5 times but they never arrived. Food: The taste of food and cooking was generally good. But the fish quality and overall quantity is a big disappointment. Details below. - We ordered mostly Bhetki fish for the first day lunch and we started lunch at around 3:30 pm. Some of the fish pieces were broken and only half of them remained and they were serving those half pieces. When one of us refused to take the half piece and asked for another piece they served her a fish which was not Bhetki. The fish was tasted by 4-5 people in our group and everyone concluded it was not Bhetki. However, when we stated this point, the staffs were adamant that it was Bhetki only. - The quantity of chicken during the dinner was not enough. The agreed quantity should not change irrespective of the place we eat, whether in the restaurant or in the room or anywhere else. They provided extra chicken upon request but not before pushing back a lot. - The second day there were some fish orders. The first group got one gravy and second group got a different gravy for the same order. The fish also did not seem like Katla which we ordered. - For the second group which went to lunch at 4 pm, the rice finished after the first serving and they were cooking rice for second serving. We had to wait 20 minutes with mutton already served on our plates and after that the rice was served which was not fully cooked due to lack of time. The lunch was ruined for many people in our group. It’s not that everything in the hotel is bad. Many things are actually very good. The location and the décor of the hotel is excellent, especially at night. Just a caution about the location, the approach road especially the last part is bad and very narrow and also has height restrictions. Our bus barely managed to reach the hotel. It’s better to take small cars instead. The swimming pool was good. They allowed us to check out a lot later for 8 of the 11 rooms than the official time as there were no bookings. The behavior of the General manager and the restaurant manager was very good and they tried to accommodate our requests. But their courteousness was failed by the attitude and behavior of other staffs. I know the hotel might give the same excuses of hotel policy and lack of staffs etc, which they gave during our stay, in response to this review and also argue that most of our requests were fulfilled, however, our hotel experience was ruined by the energy we spent to request repeatedly for all small things and the delay in fulfilling those requests. If all the requests that were ultimately fulfilled, would have been accepted without a pushback from staff in the beginning, and the issues related to amenities, swimming pool and food was not there, this might have been a 5 star review and surely much shorter and sweeter. You expect a lot smoother service, better amenities and better food from a hotel when you spend Rs 76000 for one night. An advice for the owners – you invested well in the property and décor, please invest a bit more on restaurant facilities, food, staff training and no of staffs (may be temporary) during peak periods to avoid bad reputation for this potentially great property.…
