We stayed 1 night in Ibis Maubeuge, while making a 5 day bicycle trip. Hotel is next to the bus station at a busy street, but quiet at night. It is a typical Ibis hotel. Clean and friendly. We were able to put our bicycles in a safe place for the night. Good breakfast. Maubeuge is not a nice town, but the hotel is very close to the Ravel bicycle routes and the Voie Verte de l'Avesnois.

This hotel is situated right next to the railway station and to all the bus lines. Standard Ibis hotel. Basic breakfast available but no meals. KFC and McDonalds very close by. Christian on reception very helpful for local information.

Why would anyone wish to stay here ? I have been coming here due to a business relationship in the area, and I swear this will be the last visit ever. The hotel is only just over a year old and already is tired and filthy, the rooms absolutely stink of cigarettes, the shower is caked in mould and dirt in every nook and cranny, the TV set is not working, the £10 breakfast is the usual tired and hideous rubbish, and the most annoying thing they do at breakfast, it's not the fact there ia always a shortage of something, or the queue for the coffee machine, the lack of cutlery, or "orange juice" = acid, but they have a large steel bowl with holes cut out of the top into which the yoghurt pots are inserted. . . . and to make matters worse, the picture on the yoghurt pots which depict the flavour, are wrapped around the outside, so every morning my anguish is partially assuaged by the thought that I am about to eat a pot of Peach yoghurt, but to find the peach yoghurt, I am forced to take each pot out of the iron grid and check the nature of the contents, usually there is Cherry, prunes, strawberry, but rarely a peach yoghurt is present. I would love to throw the whole lot onto the floor.
I struggle to say anything positive about this place, the noise is horrendous, on one side is a railway where they begin activity around 4 am, on the other side is a bus station where the bus drivers seem to compete to rev up their buses for the longest time at the earliest hour.
The key card system is prone to failures, I have often trekked up to my room after breakfast only to find that the key does not operate the lock.
When you wish to check out there will invariably be a huge queue and only one person on duty, the others are smoking, skiving or arguiing in some far flung corner of this hideous edifice.
Rarely one comes across a hotel where the idea of cutomer service is so distant from the minds of the staff, and where the misery of the staff and each and every customer is the only constant companion.
I am sure that it will soon close down, and the French prison service will take over, restoring the building to its proper purpose.

I made a mistake in staying in this town and especially this hotel.
Nearby is the delightful Belgian city of Mons which has a great range of hotels and restaurants.
This town was destroyed by the Germans in WW2 an never put back together properly.
The Ibis hotel is truly awful: it is sandwiched between railway lines and the Bus station. The noise from the railway begins around 4am, and from the buses around 6am.
If you can access your room, which might be difficult as the keycard system is a joke, you will probably have to return to the reception at least once. And then consider yourself lucky if they have given you a key to an empty room. In my case they gave me a key to a room in which a guest was already taking a shower !
My room smelt strongly of drains and there were no towels
You will already be awake by the time the ridiculous noises begin, in agony from the hard cheap matress. and you will lie awake listening to the various cacophonies eminating from the tannoy at the railway station, and the engines of buses being revved to death by their drivers. there will also be the numerous mopeds without silencers being thrashed up and down the street outside by the feral youths who inhabit the nearby council estates.
The pavement outside is surfaced with some bizarre ridged cobbles that are as slippy as the average ice rink, so be careful in the wet.
When you go for the ridiculously expensive breakfast, you will be greeted variously by:
A long queue for the one SLOW coffee machine.
A lack of almost any foodstuffs except some bizarre chemically enhanced muffins.
No glasses for the puce coloured acid maquerading as Juice..
No Milk for your cereal, - you will have to find a member of staff who is not staring quizzically at their computer screen whilst attempting to deal with the 10 guests who want to check out. (The rest of the staff are usually in the back yard smoking )
If you have left your car to the left of the hotel, it will have been towed away
So my advice is to steer clear of this dreadful place

The hotel has a very clinical atmosphere, which makes it difficult to feel relaxed in the reception / bar area. The rooms are okay, but are noisy with all outside noise (particularly people talking outside the back entrance) being able to be heard in the rooms above, along with trains, next doors tv, etc. Service was poor with it taking 5 to 10 min to get served at the bar, owing to the one staff member having to do both reception and bar duties. On the one occasion when a second staff member was present they ignored us at the bar, and went into the office. Cleanliness is also an issue, with a long dark hair being present in my toilet when we arrived back from work one evening. On a positive note breakfast is good, but this does not make up for the other shortfalls.

1st floor room at front of hotel looked down on bus stop so was noisy for most of the night and into the small hours. Breakfast was buffet continental style and more than adequate. Hotel is placed not far from town where there are a few decent restaurants.

Rooms are like working office rather than hotel room. It is diffucult to find something to eat at breakfast. Air conditioning was not working very well. Probably will not stat next time. Price is not expensive.

Staff, room, breakfast was very good. Easy to park and excellent showers
However, my room was at the front of the hotel and the road was very noisy particularly because buses/coaches stop outside the hotel.
The first night I was woken at 4am due to a very loud coach with engine running for a long time

This hotel for an Ibis it is really not bad the room was good, clean and well located. The breakfast is the standard for Ibis and it was ok. The only bad thing is that they sais accept Amex but in final didn't, only Visa.

"I was happy to face the boulevard since my car was parked across the street, but some people might like to watch the trains going by on the other side. In any case, there is absolutely no problem with noise."
