Whilst the hosts are a charming couple it is very obvious that this attempt to create a Logis from an old Cognac distillery has been and still is a DIY project. I'm afraid a lot of the work is not to a very high standard, with very uneven floors and poor finishes. For the standard offered this Logis is over priced.
My main problem was that, whist I do not dislike dogs, the owners love their 2 dogs who are given the free run of the hotel. Dogs sitting on furniture in the guests dining / sitting room is not my idea of good health and hygiene.
Jarnac is a lovely town in the Cognac area and well worth spending time there.

We stayed her for a night with out two dogs, we couldn't of had a better room, it backed onto a private enclosed garden which was perfect for the dogs. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and the room was very clean. Would definitely stay here again when passing through this area.

We had 2 very enjoyable nights at the Hotel Restaurant Karina, our hosts were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. The room which was in effect like a small cottage and was very comfortable and private. The dining room/ bar which includes the distillation equipment from its previous life as a cognac house was amazing. The food was very good in a relaxed atmosphere and we ate there both nights and is definitely good value and quality. I would highly recommend Karina and look forward to our return visit.

After years of holidaying in far-flung places this year saw us back touring France and we of course put Karina on our stop list.
As soon as we turned into the drive happy memories of previous visits with family and friends came flooding back, and the welcome of Nikki and Austin was as friendly as it ever was.
The Karina has retained all of its charm but has obviously been updated over the years since we last visited to provide a high standard of comfort.
The now grown-up children enjoyed themselves as much as they ever did exploring the grounds and making full use of the pool and sun terrace (and bar this time round!).
The evening meals were easily a match for expensive city centre restaurant standards but with the added bonus of the Charente climate of course, and the lunchtime salad Nikki put together for me while I “worked from home“ one day while the rest of the crew explored Jarnac and Cognac was a treat.
All in all as fabulous a venue as we recalled, ideal for a relaxing family trip – and actually as pleasant a destination for “working from home“ in the sun as can be imagined!

We stopped off here for one night on our way from Le Mans to Bordeaux.
Welcomed by Nikki & Austin who were very friendly and provided us with some local cuisine which was excellent.
The hotel is charming, peaceful and has a nice swimming pool too.

We first visited Maison Karina when it had just opened in the early 90's. We have been going back ever since. Our last visit was on New Years Eve.

Maison Karina is run by Nikki and Austin who provide their guests with a very warm and friendly welcome. They are a British couple who have become part of the local community. The Restaurant is well patronised by the locals. The bar has to be seen to be believed.

Dinner (and other meals) are very good. Food is excellent with a wide range of choices including both French and British specialities. Prices are reasonable. The accommodation is very comfortable with bathrooms superior to typical French hotels of this category.

There is a limited number of good hotels and restaurants in the neighbourhood of Jarnac.

Definitely highly recommended.

We are wondering whether we actually stayed at the same hotel as the other recent reviewers! Or maybe it's because we stayed a full week (as we'd pre-booked) and they only stayed a couple of nights? So here goes:
The pros - Close to Jarnac which is beautiful, in a lovely rural setting. The property is a tasteful conversion with original features around a lovely courtyard with shady areas to sit and a good sized swimming pool with a couple of lilos for the children to enjoy. Also Louise with her lovely attitude and continual helpfulness was a delight.
But now, the longer list of cons - On arrival, our room was full of spiders and cobwebs and overall signs of poor cleaning. Room maintenance was poor, one of the lights had a plug with bare wires exposed and the showerhead was broken (both corrected when reported) and the plug in the sink did not work (not corrected when reported). What scrummy food? 25 Euros set menu including a pre-packed microwaved pastie for a starter! Worryingly, a lack of basic food hygiene - after three days we had to complain that the milk jug at breakfast had not been washed since our arrival and there was mould growing on the bottle of apple juice. Also their dogs are allowed everywhere including into the kitchen. The swimming pool was not cleaned out daily meaning my husband had to, so the children weren't swimming in a pool of dead flies and on the final day with the dead shrew which had unfortunately drowned overnight. Finally, the dreariness of the expensive breakfast. There was no variety from day to day, not even in the cold meat or cheese served - the same single ham, hard cheese and soft cheese every day. No fresh fruit apart from plums picked from their own tree on one day. Only variety was the day they served raw eggs instead of boiled!
So all in all, as the title says really disappointing when it could have been fabulous.

A group of us made up of family and friends stayed here for 3 nights after a wedding. We all absolutely loved staying at Hotel Karina, we had no complaints during our stay. The rooms were absolutely fine and were very clean. The owner Nikki and her staff Louise were very friendly and hospitable, whenever we needed something they were always very helpful and nothing was ever too much to ask. The food was top quality, we ate like kings. The creme brûlée is a must.

The hotel is located just out of Jarnac and Cognac is just a little further both which is a great places to visit for the day. There are plenty of cognac distilleries to visit, you will get hooked on the pineau.

Well there are hotels and there are hotels, one has to say that this is the very best for customer service. Situated just outside of Jarnac in the Charente, we found the beautiful Karina Hotel. Owners Nikki and Austin make you feel that you are much more than a hotel guest.
The rooms are great with everything that you could need, and now the restaurant.
Absolutely fabulous meal, with a super menu, in a lovely dining room.
This comes with a great recommendation from us, and by sure we will be back soon!
Many thanks to all the staff who made us so welcome

Booked one night on our way home from Spain. Arrived to be shown the worst room we have ever had the misfortune to be offered. No toileteries in bathroom at all, no mirror in bedroom, entered through a ropey old curtain, room was dingy, dark and unclean. All bad enough until we saw the toilet basin. Filthy encrusted rust hole is the best description. Definitely a no-no as a health hazard so went back to office to say we were unhappy. Offered a family room (condescendently at 'no extra charge') which was only marginally better in that it had a new ensuite but a network of cobwebs under a chair and gritty gravel on floor indicated that housekeeping here needs to have a serious overhaul. Towels in ensuite were old and rough.
Dinner was a disappointing and unimaginative offering at 25 euros. Only two choices on starters and mains. Waiter was untrained youth perhaps a student (?) who had little idea on how to deal with wine and orders. A dirty wine glass was returned.
We waited a long time while owner/chef's private party were seated at their table and served even though we had been there first.
Could not face breakfast after this unwelcome place so left early. Never again!
