Built in 1774, Bari Kothi the ancestral house of the Sheherwali Dudhoria family is Murshidabad’s First Ever Restored Rustic Heritage Hotel. Spread across three-fourth acres of Land and houses a Sheesh Mahal, Library, Music Room, Durbar Hall, Janana Chowk, Gaddi Ghar, Halwai Khana, Gulabi Chawara amongst other parts of the house; Bari Kothi is one of the most architecturally significant palaces in the region. Since the restoration days, our team does not comprise of trained personnel but comprises real men and women raised in the vicinity of Bari Kothi. Even today, after the restoration work was completed, we further trained our local work force to become guides, translators, hosts, chefs and waiters making every guest experience, as genuine and as authentic, it can be.

I went into barikothi knowing quite well about the history but came out of it mesmerized with lot more things. Yes, barikothi is an experience, you'll be transported to the good, old days when we were not glued to our cellphones and felt more, probably. It is an impeccably renovated structure, delicately designed with things that'll give you that royal feeling. But the thing that'd stay with me is how it is uplifting the life of the local community. Involving local people into the day to day activities intricately, taking care of them and their families is a great thing to do. I can only request you to visit the property and feel it. Let the imagery engulf you, let the hospitality enrich your thirsty soul, just let the experience seep through your veins. You'll love it.

The soul of this rich and culturally majestic property is showcased through the beautiful ‘family’ of locals employed at the Bari in Murshidabad. Thoroughly Spoilt with our stay here of 1 night with the service and attention of the wonderful hosts Abhirup… Tohfa and Kishor and not to forget all the other Kothi staff. This Haveli is bright and vibrant with all the remarkable restoration done makes this place a real treat to stay right on the banks of the Ganges. All the food is vegetarian here. Breakfast at the Ganges was beautiful and peaceful with a good variety, as is Lunch and dinner… but quite heavy being made with a lot of ghee and as they want to share the Sheherwali experience in the form of 5 course meals at every sitting… it can be quite a pot belly experience. The rooms (we stayed in is the Diamond Kamra) with a balcony view of the Ganges in the distance was just gorgeous!! The Durga Puja was just beautiful and an experience of musical entertainment in one of the courtyards and Alta (red henna like painting on the feet) along with evening snacks was just lovely. The Murshidabad history is shown to you with a short tour of old temples and dilapidated buildings and havelis around the locality. Further away… a day trip worth is a must to visit places for more history, which has to be on your agenda which the hosts can arrange and advise you on.

Amazing property and better hospitality. Awesome food.Had a wonderful stay for 2 nights with a group of 30 people.Although in certain areas service seemed a little lagging but it was more than made up by the genuine efforts and welcoming smiles of all staff. In a place like Murshidabad this is the best that one can get.The staff is learning and doing their best to accommodate all requests of their guests.

The Bari Kothi , Murshidabad was built in the late 1700s. It was lovingly restored over 5 years from absolute ruins to the architecturally detailed haveli of the present. You are welcome into the hotel as a family member - expect warmth and graciousness and a personalised service. My mother is walking stick dependant and we were assured of escorts right through - a promise they fulfilled with grace as 2 smiling young ladies were by her side as she navigated the many intricate steps and passages that made the kothi so special (and a little difficult for the elderly young )! What makes it even more praise worthy is that the kothi employs largely women ( and some men) from the local communities - they carry their responsibilities with the ease and warmth of old retainers attached to a family home - an experience which largely bypasses the larger hotel chains. A curated tasting menu ensures guests are treated to the breadth of the unique sheherwali cuisine ( and it is entirely vegetarian !) the highlight is the sunset sail on the bhagirathi on a bespoke barge set up with table chairs / gadda and staff to serve you tea and snacks Thank you # Bari Kothi for an extraordinary experience and special thanks to Abhiroop, Bikram and the entire ‘devi brigade’ - your hospitality is unmatched as we say goodbye As the bengali says Aashchi- abaar dyakha hobe 🙏
