We had a gorgeous time in the misty winter at Bari Kothi, staying for two nights and enjoying the pleasures of this exquisitely restored heritage building. We were treated as special guests throughout and, on our arrival, whisked off down the river on a barge to visit a vegetable garden and to enjoy an amazing puja beside the river. As it was my birthday, Abhirup, the ‘Captain’, arranged for a lovely surprise birthday cake which was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks round the village and our great trip to Murshidabad on an electic ‘Toto’ (tuk-tuk). We thoroughly recommend Bari Kothi for a peaceful, charming and interesting stay - come and be spoiled rotten!
We celebrated our 25th Anniversary at Bari Kothi with our closest family and friends. Apart from the beautiful settings and immaculate hosting - the best part was the entire bari kothi teams' willingness to become a part of the celebrations and in the process multiply the joy manifold. Very well done - we shall remember this one for longest times!
Excellent service, wonderful staff, outstanding food, lovely room ..... It is a long drive from Kolkata and the approach through the market is challenging but once you enter the property you this is soon forgotten. Meals were in different parts of the hotel and breakfast on the banks of the Bhagirathi was superb.
Honestly this is a hidden gem near Kolkata. The entire team from Abhirup to Vikram is superb and very caring. This kind of service is very difficult to get anywhere in India. The food was surprisingly exceptional. Especially the Bengali cuisine served on clay plates. Overall a wonderful place to visit with friends and family.
We had a great experience. The place is well restored and beautiful and we were well taken care of. Almost felt like a very welcoming home and the staff members have an incredible warmth about them. The food is very good and the best part was the evening tea whilst sailing on a bamboo barge on the Bhagirathi river. The memories will live on with me for a very long time.

I recommend all friends & family to experience this cultural heritage & also the Sherwali Sumptuous Food !! Keep it up guys & keep creating amazing experiences & keep giving great memories ……Specially recommend the Boat ride on Ganges during Sunset……. 😊❤️❤️👍
My husband and I drove to Jiaganj, Murshidabad, to be ferried across with our car onto the other side of the Bhagirathi River, to be greeted by the town of Azimganj, that houses the 1755 originally built Bari Kothi, a heritage home of the then aristocracy, today a home-hotel that surpassed all expectations of hospitality, history and restorational grandeur. A 2 night stay packs in all an adventure yet supremely relaxing trip can ask for—all meals in the Sheherwale cuisine, a boat ride into the region’s organic farm lands, a sunset over the quiet ripples of the river, a private candle lit dinner, a walk in the sun around the terracotta complex of temples—a melting pot of all its contributors and witnesses over the years, this one’s a must experience for an audience that can turn back the hands of time and appreciate the glory of an era gone by. Huge kudos to the hospitality team and the overall management that redefines luxury not as a futuristic spa resort but as coming home to a beautiful story carved in architectural marvel. 15 rooms that are usually booked out, winter’s a good time to visit to enjoy the indoors and the outdoors, but a second trip may be good during the Durga pujas too. While we’re a couple, we could see the kids of other guests having a good time too with pottery sessions and outdoor games. So don’t hesitate to take this chance into a luxuriously laden tale of history.…
Bari Kothi experience offered a new definition to personalised hospitality, passion and warmth. Its a special place every bit worth a visit! All 8 of us will savour the memories for years to come. Can’t thank enough the wonderful Team that made our stay so memorable! Thank you!
It is a MUST VISIT....That's the word! Every aspect - Ambience, Luxury, Hospitality, Service, Food - all deserve all the stars. It is a photographer's paradise. History and heritage have been held in time and are being caressed by the owners and the staff in the most appropriate way possible. The warmth and thoughtfulness behind making our stay worthy touched all our chords. Definitely worth a repeat visit.
Bari Kothi was a home away from home during our stay in Murshidabad. In addition to the luxurious accommodation and the quirky stories around the property, there were superb Ganga views in the day and relaxing sunset barge rides. The hosts were warm and welcoming and painstaking in accommodating all our requests. I was keen on textiles and quilting and they found me fabulous places to visit. Highly recommend a visit to experience “Sheherwali” life and cuisine.
