The hotel is old and run down. Rooms very basic, though clean. Very different from the photos presented on their website. Also, no real assistance provided to bikers and bike room very hidden. Disappointing breakfast (with plastic glasses!) Staff was nice, but overall experience poor.

Response from Customer Service, Direttore generale at Hotel Residence Esplanade
Responded 5 Jul 2022
Dear Mrs. Lucia, thanks for your review. Just a few clarifications. The glasses in the breakfast room are biodegradable, plastic is no longer allowed. We are sorry she was not satisfied with her one night stay, we assure you that the photos of the room booked and then assigned are real. For breakfast, her roommate on Booking.com wrote us that she was great, we don't understand what the differences are .... We remain available for any need and wish you happy holidays

We stayed for 5 nights in an apartment with our family of 4. Two connecting rooms, a small kitchen and patio terrace overlooking the courtyard. Very close to the beach and with our direct booking the beachclub Corallo was included with sunbeds and umbrella. Just a minute away from the Boulevard with a great selection of restaurants, bars and shops. My husband had to see a doctor and the staff were more than helpful arranging this for us. The doctor came into the hotel and the staff did all the translations since the doctor only spoke Italian. The rooms were clean and classy with great beds.

The hotel has very nice italian staff who were very helpful and friendly. We stayed 2 nights in Superior room with balcony. The room, bathroom, linen and towels were spotlessly clean. Lot of cabinets to keep your things but the safe was at the floor in one of the cabinets and you had to knee to use it. We had our room in the first floor so we hadn't much use for the balcony opposite the garden bar. Very good breakfast with large selection of different items and the restaurant offers also tasty lunch and dinner. The restaurant needs a helping hand to find more suitable art for its walls to match with the furniture and crystal chandeliers.

NIce hotel with a fair good location, street parking at the cost of €7 per day. Nice breakfast served at table due to covid. All are private beaches where the hotel has an arrangement for €20 per day but by the end of September the swimming pool were closed. you just got access to the beach and deck chairs, no towel available Spacious and quite room very clean, clean bathroom as well. Kind and helpful staff

We were very thrilled about our 3 nights stay at Hotel Esplanade cause it was our first break after the Covid 19 lockdown. Unfortunately it didn't meet perfectly our expectations. Our room was quite spacious but a lamp wasn't working and the view was awful. Unfortunately the balcony was above a courtyard, not so clean and with many pigeons ... At least the room was silent and clean. The bathroom needs a little restoration. Breakfast was served only in rooms because of Covid situation. You need to place your order the night before, and see what they bring you the morning after. The first morning I had ordered nonfat yogurt and it came fat, the third morning my yogurt was lactose free instead of nonfat and my husband, who had ordered 2 croissants, received nothing at all. I had also ordered ham and cheese and they came without cuttleries. When I complained, while checking out, they even didn't propose a little discount for the inconveniences. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Promenade. There is no private parking but public parking is available nearby for a reasonable price. Unless they rise their standards, I can't recommend this hotel.

We spent 8 nights at this hotel in September 2019. The hotel is well located near the beach. We were upgraded to an apartment on arrival which was a pleasant surprise. The apartment was very spacious with a small kitchenette and living/dining room. It would be ideal for a family who wanted to do some self catering. The hotel staff were always attentive and friendly. We booked directly with the Hotel which gave us free access to a local beach club. This is a big advantage as access to beach clubs can be expensive, especially in high season. An added bonus is that the hotel is on a direct bus route (E25) from Pisa Airport and it only costs €3.50 per adult each way.

5 star staff, 3 star everything else. Room 208 was too small, bathroom was tiny with inadequate shelf space, it took 2 minutes for hot water to come out of the taps and shower. Paper cups for tea or coffee. No English-language TV channel's. At weekends too much noise from the Promenade at the rear of the hotel which went on till 1 am. Balcony was plagued with pigeons from the abandoned hotel at the rear. 40 euros to use beach facilities was way too expensive The staff were excellent and friendly, the hotel was clean with excellent decor. ,

We stayed in Lido di Camiore a couple of years ago & really liked this coastal area and wanted to return as it felt a bit out of the way for some activities. This time we wanted to be in a slightly more lively location so we decided to stay in Viareggio. Booked the trip with Jet2holidays & was good value as it included private transfer, half board & use of beach clubs. I loved the old-style grandeur of the hotel & they really try to cater for all sorts of visitor. We booked 2 rooms and stayed for 9 nights. The rooms were spotlessly clean & had good facilities. The bathrooms (one in particular) was very small but manageable. The rooms also had aircon, fridge, safe, tea/coffee tray, hairdryer, TV & good WiFi. Our rooms faced the back of the hotel & we did experience some noise late on from some of the bars a couple of times (not hotel’s fault). Our rooms did not have balconies and found that the light in the rooms was poor. There is also a small children’s play room & gym which we didn’t need but looked well used by some of the other guests. The hotel breakfast was very good as was the evening meal and the restaurant service was excellent - the waiting staff are absolutely lovely & will do their best to accommodate (will do separate review). However I feel that the hotel could make more of the bar and courtyard area. Bar was unmanned & although someone would always serve you if you needed, it didn’t really encourage you to have a drink there. Courtyard area was lovely but never anyone sat there - we only found it by accident. That would be nice in the early evening also if there was a small bar etc. On our day of arrival we were booked in quickly & decided that we’d like to relax on the beach. The hotel upgraded us to the Principino Beach Club which was a real treat!! Our other beach days were spent at Nuovo Italia beach club which was great. The people here were very friendly & helpful and we found the facilities were great & very clean. All of the beach clubs insist on wearing bathing caps to go into the swimming pools. I was happy to do this & bought one from Nuovo Italia for a few Euros. Thankfully they are fabric & not like the rubber latex ones we used to wear for school swimming!! Again the pool there was spotlessly clean & manner with a lifeguard (as are the beaches). We nipped next door to Excelsior for lunch most days, but visited the other side (Corallo) once which wasn’t so good & more expensive. We took our own beach towels but it’s possible to hire them from the hotel. The hotel is in a brilliant location, just a few mins walk from the beach and there is also a lovely park behind which has lots of activities for young children as well as a few restaurants and bars. There is also a Conad supermarket just through the park which was really useful. A couple of times we had early trains or boats to catch so we took taxis to the train station & also the port. This cost €10 which we found reasonable. We took trips to Florence, Cinque Terre, Portovenere and also Montecatini. The reception staff are mostly very friendly and helpful & will provide maps or other information as requested. All in all we had lovely relaxing holiday that the whole family enjoyed. Would definitely recommend this hotel & would stay here again.

Stayed here from 25 June for 11 nights, travel arrangements with jet 2 were well organised and efficient. The package included pool and beach access with sun loungers etc and half board accommodation. The hotel was beautiful, the staff are exceptional engaging and friendly with good English. The hotel is spotlessly clean the rooms are well equipped to a high standard. Breakfast is buffet style very well organised with excellent choice of foods. The evening meals in the restaurant are of an exceptional standard with good menu choices we were extremely impressed with all aspects of the hotel and restaurant. I will write a separate review for the ciccarelli restaurant. The resort itself has much to offer and is a good location for catching the train to Florence, Lucca and Pisa. As well as high end shopping there is also a lovely park. This is a great holiday for couples or families and they cater well for children. We definitely plan to return here

Just back after a week. It's not in a bad place and the hotel is fine. we had great suite and a super terrace on the 5th floor. The hotel is clean...there was a bit of a mix up with passports getting handed back to us from the couple next door but fortunately we got it sorted before we were all at the airport on the last day. Still a good stay.
