The bed&breakfast Il Sole Antico is a lovely Liberty House built in the 1930's, 30mteters from the pinewood, 200 meters form the seaside. All rooms have been refurbished in april 2009. We put every effort to make your stay unforgettable: for our cares, for the best quality of our breakfast and for our cooperation along the times spent in Viareggio.

A very nice Bed&Breakfast. Service, rooms and breakfast are perfect. Elena and Stefano were heart warming hosts. The neighborhood is nice and quite, but it's may. 10 min to beach. I highly recommend to stay there.

Hosts Stephano and Helena have a passion for excellence, and it shows in their attention to detail. From the beautiful foyer and artfully decorated rooms, to the incredible breakfast pastries made fresh each day by Helena. Located minutes from the beach and shaded walkway through town center. Excellent hosts who also offer great restaurant suggestions (try the Tordelli and local red wine at Leonardo's). Rooms spacious and comfortable.

I booked 2 double rooms for 2 nights in July, one for me and may partner and 12 month old son, and one for my parents. I was hoping to stay in a hotel rather than guest house or B&B but the prices were unreasonably expensive. However, I am very glad I booked here as it totally exceeded my expectations. Both rooms were charming, immaculately clean and spacious, even with a travel cot (which was provided) in the room. The house itself is beautiful and full of character. All rooms have access to the kitchen and terrace, which is really useful. Stefano and Elena were absolutely lovely, very friendly and warm and there when you needed them but giving you plenty of privacy. The property is a very pleasant 5-10 minutes gentle stroll to the beach, and there are plenty of shops, restaurants, pharmacies etc in the near vicinity. Next time I am in Viareggio, I will definitely be booking here as it represents great value, great quality, great location and great hospitality. What more could you ask for?

We stayed two nights at Stefano and Elena's lovely home last September. They provided the perfect balance of privacy and helpfulness, taking time to answer all of our questions with patience.Their sincerity, enthusiasm and warmth didn't seem to be diminshed after seasons of entertaining tourists. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, the best we've ever had: homemade melt-in-your mouth pastries and pizza, with fruit and yoghurt for the calorie-minded guests - all served on a quiet terrace overlooking the courtyard. In future, after this experience, we'll be choosing the bed and breakfast/small inn option over the more anonymous hotel accomodation especially if it lives up the standards of Il Sole Antico. By the way Via Reggio off season is a striking seaside resort just a short train ride from Cinque Terre. Great restaurants too and in September no crowds! Cathy and Trish

We are just back from a stay in Tuscany with a 2 day visit to Viareggio. Stefano and Elena the owners were wonderful hosts. They were there to make you feel welcome and they certainly achieved that. As stated previously the house is great for location and for all the little touches around it. It was a lovely experience staying this lovely old building. Going through the kitchen to the terrace for breakfast on a lovely sunny morning and looking at the lovely food table was a lovely start to the day. Truly great hosts. Well done Elena and Stefano, your love for the house and your guests shines through. Thoroughly recommend Il Sole Antico to you all.

A rather belated review I'm afraid but one which I am determined to submit of the wonderful stay I and my family enjoyed at the Sole Antico in September. I am very fmiliar with Viareggio, having stayed here for many years with friends. However, as this was not possible this year I found myself for the first time looking for a night's accommodation to visit our friends and stop in this great sea-side city on our way north to Liguria to the Cinque Terre. I chose the Sole Antico based on the TA reviews and am pleased I did - all the positive reviews are well founded and if like us, you are looking for a small cosy family run B&B rather than a large corporate hotel, but which is very beautiful, immaculately clean and has great character - then you will not go wrong here! As has been mentioned many times, the hosts are a wonderful and very friendly family (including the dog "Mackenzie"!), the rooms beautiful and very comfortable, and the breakfast to die for!. The location is also great - I had been concerned that it would be too far away to walk to the attractions, but not at all, it's close to shops, a great simple and very reasonably priced family restaurant around the corner recommended to us, and only a 5-10 minute walk through the beautiful pine forrest to the passeggiata, the beach and sea. My only regret is that our stay was for one night only - it will be for longer next time as I wouldn't hesitate returning and wouldn't consider anywhere else when staying again in beautiful Viareggio.

We stayed one night in Viareggio, and we found B&B through trip advisor. We read good comments, but nothinig can express the personal service of Stefano and Elisa, the best breakfast you can get (home made by Elisa), so nicely decorated rooms, good location, etc. The place is very clean, spacious, you can buy natural products they sell from the Region, etc. The best experience you can have in Viareggio, no doubt!

This has to be the best B&B experience I have ever had. I stayed here with my fiancé at the beginning of the month and we had a great time, a perfect base to explore Viareggio. Stefano and Elena balance perfectly the art of personal hospitality without being too intrusive; i.e. they make a fuss over you at breakfast but leave you to your own devices during the day. Breakfast by the way is delicious and Elena's home baking is legendary. The location is ideal for visiting the beach, which is a five minutes stroll away. It is a twenty minute walk from the train station which we found easy enough with directions from google maps. If you are arriving out of office hours Stefano may be able to pick you up from the station. NB Payment is preferred in cash.

We loved this place. Stefano and Elena were great hosts. The rooms were clean, comfortable and charming. This is a 100 year old home that Elena has taken great care to furnish and decorate. She is a great baker and makes a wonderful breakfast. It is a short walk to the water and promenade but a very pleasant one through the park. We would definately go back there and recommend it to you.

In July we were staying for a weekend in "il sole antico". We found out about this small and great bed and breakfast in trip advisor. Elena and Stefano, the very friendly and helpful owners renovated this house by themselves. They did it with much love for the detail and also very personal. The rooms are fascinating, we stayed in "Iris" which is a large and blue room, we felt very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! Elena does a lot bakery by herself, bread, cakes an it tastes just great! There were also fruit sticks and yoghourt, nice latte macchiatto, a real treat! We would stay anytime again in Il Sole antico! Eva & Sara
