Along with my wife and 2 children we booked two adjoining junior suites for a week in San Remo, and throughout our whole trip we felt looked after incredibly well. This is a grand and ornate hotel but mostly refurbished to a high standard - the lifts may be a little slow but the rooms are modern, the WiFi is fast, you can stream content to the smart TV's, there's Nespresso machines in each room, and the decor and ambience throughout are tasteful and elegant. Particular highlights are the beautiful glass flowers around the ceiling of the breakfast room and the chandeliers throughout. The food was fantastic - several meals stood out as "Best ever", my wife loved the "super spaghetti" by the pool, and I was a big fan of the special birthday cake the chef sent to our room, lightest we've ever had. The pastry section in particular is outstanding, one night we all just had desserts for dinner! The views of he sea, the beach, the boats, the sunrise, the sunset, and the bustling seaside below were all mesmerising. Two things to be aware of if you're planning to come. First, if you book online it might say "Free lunch or dinner" but in fact what you get is 90 Euros off food per adult, known as "Half board". Kids pay full price (even if they eat an adult meal), it doesn't cover beverages, and those beverages are pricey (think 8 Euros for a coke, 12 euros for a beer, etc.). So on a say 120 Euro meal you might be paying half of that in beverages and whatever the kids eat. Second, they do have a limited number of vouchers to reserve sun loungers at the Imperatrice beach over the road, but they're not free they're 38 Euros each (i.e. ~80 with 2 kids) and you'd better be there at 7:57am to ensure you have a shot of getting one (some people got grouchy when they learned they were limited and not free). The Imperatrice beach is great by the way, make sure to buy any bucket + spade type stuff at the little newsagent over the road rather than the traveling vendors. Finally, a special mention to all the staff at the Royal Hotel SanRemo. The porters, the desk staff, the cleaners, the lifeguards, maitre d's, wait staff, chefs, maintenance staff, everybody, was polite, cheerful, professional, and very friendly with our shy children. By all means, if you want to be uppity with them I'm sure they've handled more demanding customers many times before and if you act like you're the main character you'll get short shrift. A real pleasure and a privilegeto enjoy this gem of a place.…
