Villa Mercede is footsteps away from the Duomo Plaza and Cathedral This 14th century (?) building was a dormitory for local schools until 1987; rooms are large, well appointed, and with beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside 130 meters below. Father Victor, who runs the hotel for his order of three priests, was accommodating, helpful and gracious. Breakfasts, which have...

The Villa Mercede is a delightful former monastery with tall ceilings, wide hallways, good beds and a lovely quiet atmosphere steps away, literally, from the amazing Orvieto Duomo. The gentleman who check you in and help you with their morning breakfast bar (Included) are kind, speak very good English and overall make you feel very welcome. There is free parking,...

We loved this place. We were lucky enough to get a room with a view of the valley below, which made our stay here very memorable. Our spacious room and updated bathroom were furnished simply and were bright and airy, and spotlessly clean. Reliable wifi, lovely old building, basic breakfast, great location. Father Victor spoke English and was warm, friendly...

A great location, easy to find, warm gracious welcome, large quiet rooms with very large bath, very adequate breakfast, lots of free parking on site, elevator, free Internet and great price! We'll be back.

It is important to realize when you reserve this place that you are reserving a room in a religious hospitality house. It is not a typical hotel or bed and breakfast, but more of a hostel. Go into it expecting something very basic, and you will be delighted. Go into it expecting something more, and you will be unhappy. I...

We arrived by train, picked up the Carta Unica at the store in the station, for all the sites and funicular rides including the short bus ride to the main plaza. The duomo, bus stop and Villa Mercede are all within a minute walk of each other. Ask for a room with a view!!!!! There is one man running the whole place...

A friend and I stayed at Villa Mercede for one night at the beginning of a 3-week trip through Italy. Unlike another reviewer, I received a prompt response to an e-mail request for 2 rooms from Padre Tonino, the padre who runs the place (as an aside, I used Google Translate to convert my messages to Italian before sending them...

My friend and I stayed 2 nights, and I an additional night at the Villa Mercede. We both had spent time in Orvieto studying abroad and were going back to visit the town and program for a brief vacation. She speaks Italian so she made the reservation over the phone (be forewarned we never received a response when we tried...

This is a beautiful small hotel run by a religious order that is a great value and location. The breakfast is small but fresh. The hotel includes free parking, which is great. We found it a great location for site seeing in Orvieto or the local environs.

As the title indicates, if you come here expecting five star amenities, don't come. If you're coming to take in the Duomo's atmospherics and everything else Orvieto has to offer, do come. Rooms and breakfast are spartan, but you can't beat the price. And the building and its views are special. The father in charge of bookings speaks little English,...
