They neither do anything really good nor bad. Everything is just ok. Service friendly but slow, Room big but not perfectly clean (long black hair on the floor during the whole stay), AC didn’t work all the time, Food enough but not really tasty, Place, Spa/Fitness, etc. But on vacation I do exspect more than ok, that‘s why I wouldn‘t book it again.
You approach the hotel along a long avenue with the hotel at the end of it and in a raised position. As such there is a distinct sense of 'arrival'. Dating from the late 19th century the building itself is imposing and quite grand. That extends to the interior which is elegant and stylish with well proportioned public rooms, wide corridors and spacious bedrooms (well, our superior room was). The interior is well-furnished and comfortable, redolent of a by-gone era. It's had a major refurbishment recently so some of the adverse reviews might not now be quite accurate. Rooms at the front may be noisy because of the not-heavily-trafficked road and those at the rear (as ours was) have good views of the hills and Montecatini Alto. The facilities are just fine: the pool large enough to actually swim in and comes complete with plentiful loungers and a nice gazebo providing shade. Although the pool is unheated when the temperature is in the 30s, as it was was for us, it is very welcoming, especially after walking around Florence. There is a very good terrace at the front of the hotel which is excellent for pre-dinner drinks. The bedrooms are comfortable with tall ceilings and large beds and plenty of storage and hanging space. There are bedside lights and a mini fridge and flat-screen TV but no English channels that I could fine (and God knows I tried). The bathroom is fine with sink, WC, bidet and shower. Towels etc of a very high quality. On the food front it was very, very good indeed. Breakfast was well-appointed with enough variety and quantity to suit all. Dinners (we were half-board) were exceptionally good: a varied and interesting menu with first-class ingredients cooked and presented to a high standard consistently. The Florentine steak we had (and which we paid extra for) was just magnificent, and we've had aa few of them in our time. The staff were all you would want: friendly, professional, courteous, helpful and efficient. The spa was in keeping with the rest of the hotel: stylish and elegant and comprised a hot/whirlpool pub, a hamman and a very hot (105 degrees) sauna. Plenty of cool relaxing areas. However there is a 15 Euro pp charge levied for its use and you have to book. A previous reviewer commented adversely on the aircon in the bedrooms. We too found it difficult to control but as least we found the manual override (the off switch) which is located under a panel on the right hand top side of the unit. The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from the centre of town (10 mins to the nearest train station) and is ideal if you want to visit Florence or Lucca or Pisa, all quite cheap and quick to visit, There is a park within a minutes walk and is a delight: tranquil and well-maintained. It's a pity that only one of the famed thermal springs was open: the rest were either permanently closed or in a state of some disrepair or indeed dereliction. We've been fortunate enough to stay in many hotels in Italy and this, for us, was one of the best. The only niggles we found were the 10 Euro pp deposit levied for the use of pool towels which seems a bit churlish: as if anyone would want to steal them? And the wifi was episodic on the terrace but fine everywhere else. We'd happily return but having been to Tuscany many, many times and visited the sights quite often we don't think we have a need to go again, at least for a while. But this hotel is one I'd recommend whole-heartedly for ther service, the facilities, the food and the staff. Some of the guests need a lesson in manners but don't let them put you off. We'd actually rate the GHV 11 out of 10 if we could.…
The hotel is very pretty with nice outdoor garden. Rooms are good size. We are here as part of the Gate 1 tour. Staff were friendly. I was very disappointed with their Hi Speed Wi-Fi. The connection was very unstable and I had no use of Wi-Fi for one day. The explanation is that only the center rooms have good reception. I guess they don’t know much about extender/routers.
Recommend. It’s a very nice hotel with a very professional team. Be sure, the staff”ll care abt you. Rooms are new. Beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel is near a park. Stayed with 2kids at the end of May, all of us enjoy our holiday.
This is indeed a grand hotel in a by-gone sense of the word but it has small rooms. A small bathroom with very small shower recess - but at least they had a shower. Very dark room requiring lights on during the day otherwise like night. One very narrow slatted window only. Also, like most European hotels no provision to boil water for coffee or tea. Nothing wrong though in the cleanliness, reception or sleep experience. I was with a tour group so ordinarily it wouldn't be my choice of a hotel. It is a beautiful building though. Now, if you want to experience something in a heritage building go for it but it's not for me.
The Grand Hotel Vittoria is the upgraded hotel choice of Gate 1 for their "Fly and Drive" Tuscany tour; we opted for this hotel based on the recommendation of our booking agent. The location is within walking distance to a lovely park, thermal baths, shopping, and restaurants. In addition, it is close to highways and within "day trip" driving to major Tuscan sights. We stayed during an unusual hot spell in September and discovered room temps weren't always acceptable. Temps, for all rooms except the 4th floor, are controlled by the front desk. If you want control of your comfort, I suggest the 4th floor - smaller windows but temps the way you want it. Parking is on the street or in an underground garage for an additional fee. The included breakfast is in a tent outside the back of the hotel. The food was acceptable and coffee came out of a commercial machine. (No American coffee!) Breakfast staff was often unpleasant and insisted we sit a certain tables that had not been cleaned. Food was not refilled after 8;30 am. The back portion of the hotel is under construction. We were unable to open our windows during the evening as our window hit the scaffolding. Be aware there is construction noise during the day Monday-Friday if your room is facing the back. Bathrooms are rather quirky; the bidet takes up a large amount of floor space while sacrificing room for the shower.…
Montecatini Terme is not an international destination, it is really a centrally located town for visiting Tuscany. The grand Hotel Vittoria is in a quiet neighborhood close to the central square but far enough away to loose the crowds and noise. The front porch is wonderful and the pool is private. The front desk staff were really helpful but the big surprise was that the hotel restaurant was really very good. If you are planning to visit Tuscany you would find this location to be convenient and this hotel to be safe and professional.
What an amazing Hotel and place to stay. Getting around from Montecatini on the train is so easy and reasonably priced. The Hotel its self is a wonderful place to stay, all the staff were friendly, helpful, professional and a special mention goes to Eric in the bar, Stephano who looked after us in the dining room and housekeeping staff. I can highly recommend this hotel. Just a couple of negative points. The hotel advertised a gluten free menu which I never was presented with and st times I did struggle with choices although the staff did try to their best. Also the toaster took at least 10 minutes to toast anything. More of a toasty maker than a toaster Non of these points in anyway stopped us from having an amazing holiday in a wonderfuly positioned and idilic hotel. Well done to all at The Grand Hotel.…
We had a wonderful 8 night stay at the hotel Grand Vittoria in July. The hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment. This hotel is immaculate in a quiet residential area next a beautiful park but just an 8 minute walk from the centre with a good selection of restaurants. The rooms are beautifully furnished with very comfortable beds. The hotel manager Gianfranco is very nice and extremely helpful. Our evening meals and breakfast was excellent. We will definately return to this hotel.
The Grand Vittoria is a beautiful hotel in a relatively quiet location, but only a few blocks from the main road and square. The grounds are lovely and relaxing. Our room was a decent size. There is air conditioning, but it is controlled by the front desk--you have no control in your room. Many of the friends I was traveling with found that problematic. The shower is unusually tiny, but otherwise well appointed. The town is a great jumping off point to many of Tuscany's highlights. I would definitely stay here again.
