Our first trip abroad with Shearings after doing many weekends in the uk. The hotel was a pretty chalet type place, situated in a very nice little village. The rooms were clean and adequate the beds very comfortable, the shower cubicle was small and so close to the toilet it was hard to sit on toilet, knees were pressed against the shower cubicle. There is no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. The breakfast was continental cereal bread rolls ham cheese etc. The evening meal left alot to be desired the main course on each day was very poor, on one day we had cheese of the area as the main course 2 small pieces of a soft cheese and 2 pieces of a very hard cheese more suitable for grating. There was only one veg served with the meat ( if you had meat) so once was peas once spinach and once potatoes never potatoes and a veg. I can only presume then when someone from shearings went out to choose the trips they where in a car and forgot that we would be travelling on a coach through tiny villages with roads not suitable for such large vehicles. The trips were ok but because of the roads we spent about 6 hours a day travelling to and from the venues.would we go again, not to Dolomites too much travelling but maybe on a shorter journey.…
We can fully recommend the Hotel Des Alpes in Molveno, Trento, Italy. Overlooking the Lake with Blue Sky and snow capped mountains was a delight. A pleasant cable car and walk in the hills above the Town was a bonus,. an excellent small Italian Village.
Stayed here for 5 nights as part of our 8 day Shearings holiday tour of the Dolomites. The hotel overlooks the lake and we had a room with a balcony and lake view. Our view across the lake was picture postcard stunning! The hotel is an alpine wooden lodge style and was clean, modern and comfortable. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Our room was an adequate size and the bed was very comfortable. There were no hot drink making facilities and there was a 32 inch flat screen TV on a wall. However there were no English speaking channels, not even BBC world news or CNN. Shower room was a good size but shower cubicle itself was small. Hairdryers are in all shower rooms. Both bed and shower rooms were clean, bright and well maintained. WiFi in the hotel was very good so was able to keep up to date on BBC World News and watched Netflix on our tablet/ipad. Meals were in the light and spacious dinning room. Breakfast was continental style with cereals, ham, cheese and boiled eggs. A dinner menu had been devised for our party, choices from which were selected the day before. Dinner consisted of a salad starter, self served from a buffet counter. Subsequent courses were waiter served. Second course was either soup or pasta dish. Third course was a meat and a single vegetable, followed by a desert. The menu for our party was plain, repetitive and unexciting. For the first three nights the meat dish was pork, first braised, then roasted and finally grilled. The joke on our table was that we had had pork three ways but not on the same plate/day!. Two vegetarians were in our party whom the chef did his best to accommodate. Their options were however dull and unimaginative. Food was plentiful and no one went hungry. Service was very good. After dinner some of our group went to the small hotel bar for a drink. There was no tap or keg beer and a limited selection of other drinks. Beer was bottled with €4.50 euros buying a 500ml bottle and €5 for two small bottles of Sprite. Most of our party retired to their own refreshments in their rooms. No entertainment or music was provided for our tour party.…
