I stayed here for one night during a Bordeaux region hiking tour in October. Our stay was in a lovely clean, comfortable room overlooking the quiet street. The bathroom had recently been renovated, and the shower was great. We made us of the jacuzzi/pool, and had a delicious swordfish dinner in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was well-equipped. The hotel is...

Arrived after very hot day of cycling to deliciously cool and comfortable room with thick stone walls that tell you this was once an ancient wine cave. Friendly and helpful family run small hotel with good local produce breakfast. Typically, shower could've been better

Stayed here for 1 night during a cycle tour of the area. The hotel has been refurbished and has a small jacuzzi pool. The bedroom was very clean and quaint. The jacuzzi was perfect after a day of cycling and the food in the restuarant was very good.

A marvellous hotel in a lovely mediaeval walled village. The approach is just through one of the village gates and overlooks the narrow street. Although the building is centuries old, the interior, fixtures and fittings are modern and fully functional. The owners are welcoming, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is well prepared and presented. Saint Macaire...

we first came here in August 2015 and loved it - great hospitality, lovely quirky and comfortable rooms and excellent food.We came again this year and were equally impressed - we'll go back next year! The hotel in a modern renovation of an old property in the mediaeval heart of St Macaire. The décor is contemporary and very comfortable, the...

I was very much looking forward to my stay here as the wee town of Saint Macaire sounded and looked beautiful. Firstly...be warned. A car or bicycle is ESSENTIAL here. We got a train from Bordeaux to Langon and from there it is either a 30-40 minute walk, or a taxi which you might wait an hour for. There are...

But not with regards to the facilities. We arrived on spec and were shown a charming room overlooking the alley to the front of the mediaeval building. The hosts spoke some English, but were happy and polite enough not to laugh too much at my French. Our room was furnished with all the usual comforts, including free Wifi and a...

We stayed here on the second night of our bike trip sadly we did not have time to use the spa which looked great. Our room was just stunning!! The restaurant food was fabulous and staff excellent, if you get the chance to visit this town then do! My only regret is we did not try a pancake at the...

I suspect you will be taking the road less travelled if you spend time in St Macaire. It's a delightful, quiet little medieval town and this was a surprisingly great spot to stay. IF you wander the streets, many of the buildings are unused and falling into disrepair, so it's great that this hotel is re-purposing a lovely solid old...
