Four beautifully restored Beach Villas and three luxury tents on one of the most beautiful, tranquil beaches in Goa. Very comfortable and clean, Elsewhere runs like a little hotel with full service and great food available at the little in-house restaurant.

We stayed at Elsewhere, goa as a family of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids) at the beach house called The Bakery. The upside- Beautiful houses in old Portuguese style that have all the amenities and a full bar. The location for the property is right on Ashvem beach and so you get direct access to a relatively less crowded, clean beach especially in the mornings. The Bakery has the best access to the beach, is furthermost from the restaurant. 2 bedrooms that can be hired as singles as well and have AC.
The downside- the service. Most of the staff is very high handed and the property manager (Mark) is well intentioned but doesn't really have any control on the staff especially atrocious are the dining area servers. There are 16 (yes 16!) guards across various parts of the property and while I'm sure the security is good, it's difficult to have any sense of privacy with loud guards looking all the time /talking on the phone or to each other.
There is no room service of any sort. On the day we arrived it was raining v heavily and we requested for dinner to be served at the room given we have 2 small kids and it's a very long walk to the dining area. It took 4 conversations with various people to finally get our v simple meal delivered to our room.

The food is tasty and local fare a must try.

My reco- go to Elsewhere for the location but don't expect much from the service so try and be as self sufficient as possible.

We stayed at Elsewhere for 3 nights in March after spending 3 days at a 5 star resort. The contrast was all too obvious and we were so happy to be here.
We had the larger room at the Bakery which suited our family of 3 perfectly. The rooms are simple yet charming with small attention to details. A fully stocked fridge, plenty of wine bottles to choose from, small snacks, French press coffee, a comfortable bed... it was amazing to see the sea lying down in the comforts of the bed. The day bed and planters chairs outside are perfectly for lounging with a book or simply staring at the ocean. While we did see the other accommodation, we felt that the Bakery has the best view and location while also being farthest from the restaurant. You don’t miss the TV, the pool or the room service...the beach is clean and the sea one of the safest we have found in Goa.
The open restaurant is nice, the service is great, the food menu was limited but what is served is awesome.
The people of Elsewhere are the true gems, as they can make or break the place. Mark, John, Sarvesh, Barbara to name a few... housekeeping staff, the security guards - they all serve with a smile.
We experienced Goa like never before and can’t wait to go again!
Thank you Denzil for this slice of heaven for weary city dwellers like us!

We loved Elsewhere. We can understand why people return. We were the only ones at the time that hadn't been there before. One group has booked a house for 6 weeks every year for the last 10 years. We stayed in the Creek House, the most private of the residences, which in the back has a jetty extending to a salt creek and is set back from magnificent Mandrem Beach: 14,000+ steps if you walk the beach from Mandrem to Morjim. The accommodation was simple, yet elegant, with modern amenities (air conditioning, stereo system, flush toilet, good shower, but no TV). The property is managed by Barbara and Mark, two wonderful, solicitous hosts, who made us feel at home as soon as we stepped foot on the property. Service is superb without being fussy or intrusive. Kudos to the chefs for the exquisite cuisine, served in a tented but airy spot separate from the beach houses. John and Sarwesh, who staffed the dining area, were particularly outstanding for their kindness, friendliness and attentiveness, but everyone, including the men guarding the property, were uniformly friendly and helpful. We stayed 6 days and could have stayed longer, no problem, and we look forward to joining the club of returning visitors.

We stayed at Elsewhere in April 22. We had booked the Captain's House villa, very comfortable for 2 families.
The villa is beautiful, nicely maintained, isolated and very private. You have your own access to the beach, and except at mealtimes, you dont see anyone else.

The service is unobtrusive and efficient. Captain's House does not have AC, but that did not bother us much. One can keep the doors and windows open all the time, even while sleeping.
We will surely love to come back.
Thank you Mark and team for taking such good care of us.

This place is beyond anything else
It’s called Elsewhere and that is an appropriate name for this place.
We stayed for 5 nights in the Piggery and it was sublime.
I have previously known about elsewhere as I came to this location over 20 years ago and stayed in the tents and it still has the same charm and cool vibe.
Everything down to the staff including Mark, John, Hector and the fabulous Babu cook and all his boys who work alongside him to produce the best food in all of Goa! Meals were delicious. Healthy and organic and fresh
They respected our privacy and could not have done enough for us on all levels.
Will definitely be returning here again .. every year :))
Fab place

This is a quality resort nestled amongst palms and forest, with beach on one side and a creek on the other. Once you step away from the busyness and noise to the surrounding beaches into this special space, a sense of calm and relation takes over.
They have 4 cottages and 3 luxury tents - we stayed in one of their tents. It was fantastic - everything you needed to enjoy your time in this resort. Mark and his staff run a top class operation - highly recommended.

We have been to Elsewhere many times and intend to continue to go. Everyone who knows it or has visited it knows how lovely it is. It’s simply special . But it’s not simple to make somewhere so special: three things are necessary - an incredible location, charming accommodation and impeccable management and organisation . The first two are historic but the management and organisation without which the natural delights would not work, come from Mark the manager and his team. Mark is everywhere never elsewhere, always ready to help, to expedite, to smooth the way. Elsewhere is a treasure, but its treasure is Mark.

Compared to the polar extremes that characterize accomodation in goa, from cheap tackiness to standard 5-star chain resorts, elsewhere does occupy a unique place. The houses are charming, and your privacy is definitely set up and guarded well. The staff are very helpful for the most part, and assist in the best way they know how.

However, that's where anything positive I have to say about this place ends. If you're looking just for privacy and a beach location in a highly basic living environment with cheap toilets, no mixed running water, a tiny geyser for hot water, an uncomfortable bed, dirty pillows, a lack of practical furniture to keep your belongings, lots of dust and cobwebs, and co-habitation with a variety of insects including roaches, then Elsewhere is the place for you.

None of this would be problematic if elsewhere didn't market itself as a high-end property with equally high-end rates for the goan context. Their rates are absurd since the place barely has any overheads, and the house provides virtually nothing except for a nice collection of wine which they charge very reasonably for. If you're going to charge more than the Taj and the Marriott, having people clean the place well in addition to providing clean towels, is certainly not too much to ask for. Windows that have glass or at least shut, so that the curtains don't fly up in the breeze and expose you mid-shower to the whole world also doesn't seem like an unreasonable request. You are also expected to fumble in the darkness all day because they are too cheap to provide real lighting and bulbs that don't need replacement everyday. There is also no 24 hour service for anything or ways to contact staff from your house. Good luck if you get hungry at midnight or like to eat dinner late.

And finally, the worst thing about this place is that the owner makes you feel like he's doing you a favor by letting you stay at Elsewhere when really he's smart enough to take advantage of new age tourists who romanticize poverty, read too much Thoreau and are in search of some of sort of 'authentic' experience. Really, if I wanted to shed materialism and be with one with nature, I'd come up with better ways to do it than go to the tourist haven that is Goa.

If you like to get away from the crowd and appreciate a lonely beach this is your dream come true. We stayed in the Piggery, a beautifully converted and sensitively furnished old Goan building which had everything we could have wanted (except perhaps some shade in the afternoons). We had a isolated position directly overlooking the beach.
The food at the restaurant was extremely good and the service was first class. Cant wait to go back!

Room Tip: The Piggery has the best sea view and has air-con, but the Captain's House has more options...
