Only thing I might would consider would be fans outside the balconies as it can be very hot during the day and maybe modern power plugs and light switches, especially when you are on the high beds it’s difficult to charge your phone or watch.
But as mentioned overall a very nice place and certainly my new must stay in goa.
Thanks again for this great holidays.
(Unfortunately can’t upload the videos)
Location wise, it’s a little bit more calm but just 5min walk to the beach and the bigger night clubs or famous bars and restaurants are within 30-40min drive, nevertheless a lot of nice little spots around the hotel.
(Burger factor / la Plage / la cucina / rock water / palm grove / delicious ...)
The staff are so welcoming and nothing is a problem; whatever you feel like eating, the chef, Kumar will do his utmost to cater for you and then there is BK; he’s like having your own personal Man Friday and he took such great care of us and our dog!
The place is super clean and hygienic and the bedrooms and bathrooms are fabulous!
The best part though is Raju, his energy and enthusiasm for life is infectious and every evening he sits at his bar and entertains with his stories and his fabulous singing! It’s was sad to leave as we felt like we were home!
The beach is a hop skip away however we used the pool which was spotless and cleaned every evening.
The food... well let’s just say I gained a few kilos!! The food was absolutely outstanding and Raju made sure that it was cooked to perfection and was very involved with the chef!
I can’t recommend this place highly enough, it’s a true gem!!
Thank you to everyone at the fabulous Sur La Mer!!!
The staff are extremely courteous and they resolve all your issues immediately. BK and Tani at the reception were our go to people for every thing, and they have been extremely patient. Very very accomodating to all your requests, unlike most of the hotels we have visited.
I can only say that you should not just plan a trip to Goa, but plan a trip to Sur La Mer.
Overall would suggest look for another property like Palm beach Grove or few others. Had much more expectation from Sur La Mer considering the Money charged/spent.
The good
1) Room service was prompt whenever called
2) The waiter at the restaurant was very nice and helpful and does try to make your stay comfortable
3) Overall a good looking property. Yellow walls with a swimming pool in the center. Has a Rustic feel to it.
4) Rooms are spacious and clean. Stayed in the Maharaja room.
5) Pool is clean and well maintained. You can swim as late as Midnight.
6) Breakfast is available till late even 12 pm. Breakfast was nothing great and average but cooked fresh.
The Bad
1) Horrible approach to the hotel. The road leading to the hotel is very narrow and full of rocks and bumps
2) Parking is a major issue at this hotel. Very limited slots and you have to leave your keys at the receptions since they have to keep moving your car in/out for others to accommodate
3) The owner Mr. Aneel was also staying at the property during our stay but was least bothered to even meet his guest. In todays world of hospitality i would consider this as a very COLD approach. No one wants a golden carpet but just some way to make your guest feel welcome. Don't think it makes a difference to the owners what the guest think.
4) The reception is not manned at all times. Usually comes in at 09 am only and after 10 pm disappears
5) AC in the room does not cool and is too small for the room size. We had kept the temperature at 16 C but it was 25 C and had to have the fans running
6) Had one dinner at the resort - Food was well cooked but expensive. We had to wait 1.5 hours to get food which is too long. Food is cooked fresh. Guest should be informed to place orders in advance in case food preparation takes time
7) The Maharaja rooms has an artic (I think all rooms do) with a bed but no fan or AC is provided, so this space is really of no use since it is extremely hot to stay up.
8) The Maharaja room had an outside sitting area but really can't make much use of it because it is full of mosquitoes. The hotel is surrounded with bushes/trees.
In general
1) Visit S2 Beach shack, Palm Grove beach shack and Tomato's beach shack which are all great options.
2) Arambol market area is good for shopping in case interested and 20 mins from the hotel.
The Owners are a delight to be around.
The rooms are spacious and very well kept, and the best part is that you feel at home when at Sur La Mer
Don't miss the delicious cuisine served here, and if you are LUCKY ask Raju Verman (Owner) to cook something for you as he is master chef material :)
Hang at the Bar and be entertained...
5 stars for this one !
Gautam
Pros:-
1. The rooms are spacious and tastefully done
2. Each room has its verandah and sitting place where food is served. Gives you alot of space to spend time with your family
3. Food quality is excellent and service levels are outstanding.
4. No buffet breakfast or lunch/ dinner but you can choose from a reasonable list of options. Breakfast is available till late and is served in your verandah
5. The owner stays at the premises and is quite friendly and warm
6. We ate out a lot and many good restaurants are around in Ashwem, Morjim etc. We hired 2 scooters from the resort staff only.
Cons:-
1. The place has limited options to keep kids occupied (versus large resorts which have kids rooms etc) so be prepared to spend time on your own
2. The approach road is non existent and thats a big issue. Driving a scooter for the last 300 mt was a pain
3. Bathroom and toilet is open without doors. Not a nuisance but can be a bother to some.
4. This is not a beachfront property. Beach is a good ~2+ km ride away.
We enjoyed our stay esp in the covid times because we had a large personal space. The spacious rooms and large sitting area was god send.
All in all i would rate this a 4.5* and would love to come back again.
The staff is so caring and hospitable & the presence of Marlyn and Sunday complete the homely feeling.
Stay Blessed!
