Mascota has many historic mesons or posadas or hotels that are grand old family homes, or businesses, that have been renovated and converted to hotels. When we got to Mascota, we did what we do a lot when we visit a new place which is to check out and tour several hotels. We look at the rooms, compare the other... More

I booked this historic hotel in central Mascota via internet. On arrival I was lead to our room, first floor, with double window opening on to the busy, noisy, and smelly Calle Hidalgo. Later I learned from one of three total guests during our one night stay they were offered the other similarly situated room. My question is why does... More

I cannot say enough of how welcomed I felt at Meson de Santa Elena. I especially enjoyed the healthy breakfast served in the courtyard. You actually have a choice of where you want to sit. There's the dining room, also a covered area, or if you, as I, prefer in the sunlight. The rooms are very clean and well kept.... More

Charming courtyard and colonial, hacienda-style building with surrounding rooms. Some of the rooms are a bit dark but still quite appealing. The staff is very helpful and friendly but speak little English, if that is an issue. Breakfast is generous and with enough options to appeal to all. It is centrally located with only a short walk to the church... More

Nice colonial building and courtyard. Room was a bit to dark with two tiny windows looking at the balcony used by other room as well. Biggest issue for me was that even though hotel has the internet, our room was to far from the router so... No access. If planning to stay there ask for the rooms that are overlooking... More

Generous room with old world charm in an original hacienda. Very good views from the balcony overlooking part of the town and the distant countryside. Very well located. Good breakfast. Downside is that nobody speaks any English and a lot gets lost in the translation. Would be very helpful with some English speaking staff.

First off when you come to visit Mascota you should know it is not a tourist town. There will be no vendors promoting their wares or people stepping onto the street hawking their restaurant, nor is there much English spoken. We speak rudimentary Spanish and did just fine. The people are friendly and eager to help you if you ask... More

The hotel is clean and we had a good room. As far as 5 star, I would give it a 3 plus star. The breakfast was the 5 star experience. Room exceptionally clean. Wish there was a ceiling fan as the floor fan was necessary and noisy. Be aware that the credit card terminal may be out as we had... More

We spent a night at this lovely Colonial Mansion with central courtyard, seating and lovely plants. Meson de Elena, April 2015, and also visited the gift shop boutique next door, all in all a good experience, rooms very comfortable, our room was downstairs and a bit noisy for a while as it was facing the main road, the rooms upstairs... This is a great property in a quiet, rural town; enroute between Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. Our room was large and quiet; on the 2nd floor overlooking the interior courtyard. English is not a strength but we get by just fine. Everybody tries with graciousness. Breakfast was cooked to our request and that was sincerely appreciated. Additionally although wifi was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Romantic, romantic, romantic is what Meson de Santa Elena is all about. It's hard to believe you are in a bed and breakfast hotel instead of a private guest at a 18th century hacienda. The owners of this beautiful inn are the family Robles Sahagun who love this home almost as much as Chayito, the mother of the family, loves receiving her guests with a warmth of hospitality that is reflected in every corner. Breakfast is included in the sunny patio or in your room. ... more   less
