The thirtieth century Château de La Mar is located in Jongieux, near Lake Bourget in Haute-Savoie. The castle has 5 rooms. Free breakfast is available daily. Château de La Mar also offers an outdoor pool, library, wine cellar and free parking. The Hautecombe Abbey is one of the sights in the region. If you want to see something, you will find the Savière Canal (Chanaz), the beach of Conjux, the Monin winery and the Bugiste wine cellar. Everything was outstanding at the Chateau de la mar. The managers of the property (Pierre and Elodie) were very attentive and made sure that we had a great stay. Her "care" included the wine tasting in the cave, the wonderfully prepared dinners and the detailed excursion tips. Everything was in fair value for money. Our suite was furnished with well-chosen antiques and very comfortable beds. The huge bathroom was a dream; everything in black and white and installed with a free-standing bathtub and a separate, large shower. The beautiful location of the castle, in the middle of its vineyards, as well as the complete restoration, could be presented like pictures of an exhibition. We stayed there for 2 nights in July 2020 and we are happy to come back! Robert, Iris & Susanne

We loved our too brief stay in this beautiful castle surrounded by the vineyards that yield fantastic wines made right there. Our room was very comfortable and had the best jetted tub we've ever experienced. Everywhere you look you are greeted by picturesque vistas never to be forgotten. The owners were warm, accommodating, and very down to earth. The breakfast was one of the best meals we had during a month of dining at mostly high end restaurants. We'll definitely stay longer next time and buy more wine as well. Simply the BEST!

This was a classy and unique find -- a castle set in beautiful quiet rolling hills reminiscent of Tuscany, yet so close to Aix-les-Bains. The castle has been magnificently restored by the owner over 10 years, and the five or so bedrooms are all totally different and beautifully appointed. The swimming pool in the castle grounds is so relaxing and a very decent size, I spent the whole day by the pool with noone in sight, it was heavenly. There is no restaurant on-site, but some nice options in nearby villages, and a Michelin star restaurant up the road. The breakfast was ok -- it could be improved with some additional choices, fruit salad and boiled eggs for example: for those who are lactose and gluten intolerant, bread and cheese is just not satisfactory for breakfast in this day and age... Other niggle is the plastic cover over the mattress which is not acceptable for the prices paid... We liked the place very much and will return. For wine lovers, chat with the host, he is very entertaining, loves his wine, and is very happy to share his thoughts and knowledge; you can request a wine sampling, his wines are some of the most renowned in the valley.

This beautiful Chateau is in a class of its own. It is exceptionally well renovated to a very high standard with every attention to detail and quality. We stumbled upon this five star place whilst on a cycling trip amongst the vineyards of the Savoie. It is not cheap but well worth the splurge if you fancy a quiet luxurious stay in a beautifully restored and authentic medieval Chateau. The owner greeted us personally in the evening and showed us around. You can only check in from 6pm! He said it took him five whole years to rebuild and renovate and restore the Chateau De La Mar whilst he concentrated on his vineyards and his winemaking, which is obviously his passion and of which he is very knowledgeable. He sells his wines to Michelin star restaurants world wide! Our room was brand new, furnished with antiques, a big four poster bed and with very high quality bathroom fittings. Simply in a class of its own! The bath had a jacuzzi which made a racket, but was of course very nice! The large screen high definition TV was tastefully hidden behind a framed mirror. Unfortunately there was one of those plastic covers over the mattress which make you sweat. We took it off. The walls are made of stone but we could still hear our neighbors somehow. The view out from the castle window over the farms and vineyards is very picturesque. Breakfast was served with silverware on a huge table in a large room with green walls, all very aristocratic. Fresh orange juice and coffee and croissants and bread were very good but I missed muesli and cereal. The pool was beautiful with quality stone borders. A great place to relax except for the occasional passing Sunday motorcycle gang on their way to the mountain passes. There is also a spa wellness area which unfortunately you have to pay extra for and a wine cellar which the owner will of course show you if you are interested in tasting and buying wines. The whole place with its gardens and vineyards and and stone walls is rather special. So special in fact that we decided to stay another night!

This Chateau is simply fantastic. Dating from the 13th century and newly renovated with rooms that now have very high standards and comfort. The hosts are very welcoming, the breakfast is outstanding and the wines produced at the castle by the very dedicated host winemaker are excellent. This B&B is highly recommended if you are in the area!
