We were late to arrive and having travelled to La Tremblade only for Eclade, Madam was helpful to call the restaurant to try to get us a table. Sadly we were too late, but her welcome was most appreciated.

La Tramblade is neither spectacular nor trendy, but if you are passing and like oysters then this is a nice place to stay. Maybe a little warn compared to chain hotels but comfortable enough.

There is a lively market down the street, and plenty of cafe to enjoy for breakfast if you wish

We picked La Tremblade because it was in about the right location between Royan and Rochefort. Hotel Phoebus had some decent reviews but was also one of the few with availability. I wish we'd stayed two nights. The hotel is just around the corner from the market and faces onto the street with butchers and newsagent opposite. Don't worry you won't here a thing with the windows closed.

When we arrived the owner was very welcoming and took us up to our room. It was big with a large double glazed window onto the street and the bathroom was huge also and well appointed. The rooms are in the process of being re-vamped in a plainer, more aesthetic style but are still absolutely fine. The owner, who speaks very good English if it helps, pointed us towards the restaurants in La Greve as the closer ones in town were closed for their holidays. The restaurants were about a 3 kms drive and rain was forecast so we took the car.

We had breakfast in the hotel and chatted to the owner. The typical breakfast was excellent. The owner had only been there since June and runs the place beautifully on her own. She also makes tarts which she sells from the hotel and will soon be doing more food. There is a fabulous Sunday market in the hall and the street outside it that most people would enjoy. Great shellfish and fresh fish. All in all a great experience that I look forward to repeating as the hotel is open all year around, the owner makes you feel very welcome.

Misleading photos, rooms in poor condition and not very clean, poor breakfast and it being a bad hot season, poor Wi-Fi connection, in short it needs a total rehabilitation, swimming pool inside the casino grounds.

Avoid, big scam those who gave good reviews are necessarily friends of the hotel I don't even understand how we can give them 2 stars.. we were well received.. but then the room more than mediocre, more than dirty, a shame of hair all over the bed, even a child's t-shirt found under the bed.. the bathroom and toilet in the same state..
