Detailed Reviews
This is just off the main road from Jaisalmer and although it may once have been Desert it is not anymore. The whole area is being converted to farms, with a whole bunch of Camels for Tourists.
That said it is a good place to stay if you have a car and want to explore the unspoilt areas of the Park wihich are around 30 mins away - where you can still find some of the original wildlife eg the last of the Indian Bustard.
I stayed in one of the tents which was clean and big but when teh wind got up in the night was very, very noisy.
The buffet and entertainment where fine - I actually enjoyed it, but this is not a Desert experience

Dear Guest, I apologies most sincerely for your experience at Rajasthan Desert Safari Camp. We as an Indian company are very proud of our Indian heritage. All of us at Rajasthan Desert Safari Camp strongly believe in our company mission and philosophy to do all we can to delight guests with service which is warm and caring. Our code of conduct calls upon us to put our guests above all else. We have made measure changes & renovated our camp site to a top level with new professional team members to upgrade services for our valuable guests. Your feedback was of great concern to me. I would like to assure you that the intention of the team was never disrespectful. Quality service to our guests has remained an obsession for each one of us. If we are unable to meet our guest expectations, we are not at peace. Each member of my team is empowered to take decisions on their own to delight guests. But I am deeply sorry that this did not came across in the manner it was intended. I would welcome the opportunity of a telephone conversation with you. Please also let me know when you are next in Sam Jaisalmer – it will be a pleasure for my team and me to personally welcome you to the camp -resort. Our warmest regards, Yours sincerely, Sukh Deo +91 723 0012 723

Considering the advertisments etc on luxury SWISS tents, we decided to stay overnight at this camp.
Absolutely there is nothing special about this camp except for the convienent camel ride for the sunset. On the dunes, many local boys are selling beer, soft drinks etc. Some Rajasthani women (read women, not girls) put up a nice traditional dance for a small tip. All this put together makes it wonderful memorable experience.
The dinner buffett is done is small mud thatched courtyard with local dances etc. Good way to spend the evening but could be skipped.
Cleanliness is where these camps ( i checked others as well next morning) is pathetic. Bedsheets have holes, smell. No hot water in shower. Leaking toilet hoses.
Best to spend the 1st night of your trip in Jaisalmer here and leave next morning to check in a hotel in Jaisalmer and freshen up there.

The setting for the desert safari camp seems, on the face of it, to be special and just a little mysterious. In reality it is one of many (20+) crowded into the same general area of the Thar desert. We were there over the December holiday period where the major competition seemed to be who could host the costliest barbecue and have the noisiest DJ. The mystery and tranquility of the desert was certainly shattered that night.
Accomodation is in luxury tents, if your idea of luxury is two chairs, cold showers and dicky lighting. Being in the desert nothing better should be expected really and it was perfectly acceptable for what we needed but why should it be promoted as being somehow better than it is?
Food and drink is expensive: a bottle of Kingfisher is 250 Rs and a very nice lunch was 600 Rs pp. they also attempted to charge me twice for our drinks when we checked out (we had already paid in cash for these) and when I pointed this out it was deducted in an instant - in fact a little too quickly for my liking, so watch your bills.
Overall the experience of staying in the desert overnight is worth having, but expect to pay for it and don't hope for it to be too mystical. Away from the crowds the desert is truly a special place and I would wholeheartedly recommend that you do experience it, but just for the one night.

Especially enjoyed the cultural program which was engaging. Tents were beautifully decorated had separate bathrooms and there was no unnecessarily loud DJ music after the cultural programme. Only camel safari is included in many packages and jeep has to be hired separately. Food was satisfactory.

The dinner was not good, and the food kept for dinner was not hot. The tents were not good they were broken. We were allocated broken beds and there was no proper shade for the cultural event as we have to seat in open place. They charged us 1500 for Jeep ride but that ride was basically used to drop us to the camel ride which was complementary.

+1
We were committed to this hotel as part of our Intrepid / Peregrine tour of Rajasthan, so I have no idea how much it costs (hopefully not much). Described in the trip notes as “Experience one of the main highlights of our adventure on a camel safari (approx. 2.5 hours) out to the pristine sand dunes of the Thar Desert and spend a night camping out under the stars in tents.” Technically, they provided this but it was SO much less than we (and others) had imagined in our mind and definitely not a highlight compared to other items on our tour.
The Thar Desert area is only about 35 minutes away from our previously very nice hotel in Jaisalmer (which we had to drive back to on our way out of town at 6AM the next morning), and the whole area is loaded with little tourist “camping” outfits like this one. We basically left Jaisalmer around 3PM (nothing else to do in the desert so no rush to get there) and arrived to this lonely little property. Walking out to the grounds there are abandoned pieces of equipment strewn about, an empty pool, and a bunch of very large looking tent buildings. Half of the buildings are enclosed cabins (and a little bit nicer) and the other half are "tents" on concrete slab.
We had about 60 minutes to unpack and then go out front where the camels wait for us, each with a camel instructor who walks your camel for you the whole time. We load up and leave on the ride to the desert which consists of about a 45 minute ride out there (about 15 minutes of which is on the road), about 40 minutes break time in the desert to watch the sunset (where since everything is an opportunity in India, there are people selling beer and drinks as well as locals trying to put on a singing performance for tips), and a 30 minute ride (about 15 minutes on the road) back to the property. They do greet you on return with a wet towel and glass of Pepsi. You then go to their courtyard to watch a 40 minute performance by some musicians/ artists and eat one of your included buffet meals (where they pour you a small glass of soda from a 2-liter bottle and charge you an outrageous-for-India price of 120R) before turning in for an early departure the next morning.
So, the “camping” room is a concrete slab which they have covered with a tall tent tarp. The inside is basically set-up like your most basic of budget hotel rooms and is not very clean (previously used toiletries in the bathroom and make-up stained hand towels from previous guests). No heat or heaters, few blankets, and pretty darned cold. The hardest bed we slept on during our entire 2+ weeks in India and it was LOUD – we heard all the other “safari” programs at all the other neighboring tourist "safaris" being blared over loud speakers until probably 1AM, as well as any noises from tent neighbors using their bathrooms, etc. They do have a normal western toilet and sink and shower spray nozzle you could use to hose off in the morning, but this would soak the whole room and there was no hot water.
No bottled water provided, no TV, no WIFI, no newspaper, no coffee/tea/kettle in-room…I guess none you would expect for “camping.” Overall this was a big letdown – it definitely wasn’t a camping experience out in the desert with the camels and it definitely was not nice as a hotel. Considering you have to get here to/ from the hotel we were already at and it is close by, the camel ride should just be used as an afternoon activity from Jaisalmer instead (the consensus feeling of our whole group). This would rank #9 (worst) of our 9 hotels during our trip and was the least enjoyable accommodations of our time in India.

A group of us went for a special treat New Year's Eve experience. The tents were really dirty, the floor all around the toilet was filthy, the bed like a concrete block, one quilt was provided and when we asked for extra, one blanket of dubious cleanliness was provided that weighed so much you couldn't breathe with it on. The tent sides had gaping holes & flapped badly in the howling gale at below zero temperatures. A terrible place. A memorable New Year's Eve for being so dreadful. No redeeming features for this place at all. Go somewhere else!!

This was the most ghastly accommodation of our month long trip in India. It was freezing, and similar to being in a military camp. Tents were very poor and a gale blew through them constantly. They had gaping holes, one so large a camp dog entered our tent in the middle of the night.
There were insufficient blankets and all in our group slept fully clothed , including jackets , gloves and beanies. The mattresses were rock hard.
The evening New Year's Eve, was gruesome - attempts to heat the camp ground resulted in smoke inhalation for everyone in our group.
The only thing I appreciated was leaving on the bus early in the morning. Sadly another groups bus broke down and they were stranded , a nightmare!
