We loved our stay here. The staff was very friendly. Loved the thatch roof. They have good screened vents around the roof on all sides and a good ceiling fan. Was plenty cool all night and morning. Was a bit warm 2pm - 4pm, just step outside and it is cool. Would have been much better if there was a screen door on the "front door" and sliding glass door. If had screens over both, could have opened up the big doors and had great cool ventilation in the heat of the day. It was very quiet here except for 1 day in our 6 day stay when a flock of roosters ran through our grounds at 4am. Had 15 roosters crowing loudly from 4am thru dawn. I put in ear plugs and slept well. Other 5 days had 1 rooster crowing occasionally after 5:30am and was not loud. The restaurant there is quite good. There is a grocery store , shops, and other restaurants a 5 minute walk away. We bought eggs and ham and cooked breakfast in our room to avoid the $28 per person breakfast buffet. Note there is a $5 per day per towel charge for the beach towels. This was not disclosed until we checked out. Not a huge deal, I just did not expect this. We rented a car one day and Moorea is quite beautiful. If you rent a car June - August be sure to book it several days in advance. We booked ours 1 day in advance and to the last car on the island and it was not available until 11am. there are only 2 rental car agencies on the island. The beach next door at the public beach is very nice. You can snorkel right in front of the hotel with lots of beautiful fish. We got to snorkel with a humpback whale in August when we took a whale watching tour, and incredible experience. Room is a good size. We booked room #13 which is a beach view room. Plenty big for the 2 of us. We loved the lanai (patio). You will probably be the only guests that speak English here. In 2 weeks (including Bora Bora) we met 3 groups that were from England or America. Many of the Hibiscus employees speak English, but not all and there is a bit of a language barrier here and everywhere in French Polynesia. Not insurmountable, but you have to take a lot of time to be sure you are understood. Mooreea Fun Dive is a 5 minute walk away. There are an awesome scuba diving shop.

Dear Gregg B , Thank you very much to took time for your commentary . All the team are happy to know you had a very good stay with us . Rooster are not our , enter in hotel and going out . We stayed three nights in a bungalow and were disappointed. The room smelled like cat urine and was dark. There were no screens on the sliding doors, no ac and a very limited kitchenette. One of the front desk staff was quite unfriendly. A beautiful spot on the beach but no beach chairs. The hens and roosters were very entertaining.
Clean, quiet (once you have accepted roosters as part of society!), a bit quaint...bug screen around bed and mosquito coils for burning. Comfortable bed. Fridge, hot plate and kitchen plates, pots etc came in handy. The restaurant was closed for renovations, so breakfast was delivered to our terrace.very punctual. Delicious, delicious croissants and pan au chocolate!! And fruit salad. The restaurant closure meant no kayak rentals too, which was a bigger disappointment! Management booked and then provided us free transportation to and from the Inter Continental Polynesian dinner and show. Top quality performances!! Dinner was great too. Snorkelling from the hotel was a huge disappointment!! So we rented a car. The best we found was at Temae beach, past the airport. Swim out to the reef. Hotel located near many restaurants, gas station, little shops.
Loved the place! It's a more local hotel than the big International ones (Hilton, Sofitel, etc) and that suited us just FINE. Very friendly staff, beautiful grounds, very close to two motu's (small islands) that are great snorkeling spots. The setting for the restaurant is beautiful and the food is good. What we liked best, though, was that it was walking distance to stores and particularly to L'Heure Sud food truck. Woke up, had coffee and a croissant in the restaurant, kayaked over to the motu's, snorkeled among hundreds of fish, sat on the beach, and then kayaked back for great fish lunch at the food truck. Read, shopped for pearls, sat by pool, or dozed in the afternoon, then beer or umbrella drinks and maybe dinner at Sunset. Repeat until real life calls.
We had an air-conditioned room, which suited us northerners just fine; it was nice to come in to cool on the hot afternoon. Only real drawback was a weird shower set up and lack of a curtain. What's up with that??? No matter what we did, shower sprayed all over the bathroom floor. I can't believe no one else mentioned it.
Unless you really WANT the 5* and isolation that comes with the big resorts, I'd HIGHLY recommend this place. It's a bit old and 80's/90's style...but that was never an issue. Clean, well-tended for, with owners present and involved. You get a nice sense of what it's like to be a citizen and live on the island. I much prefer this to the generic "luxury" of the intercontinental's.

Ia orana, Thank you very much for your comment; We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us. In regards to the shower, in French Polynesia, it's not customary to install shower curtains, to allow better air flow. We hope to welcome you again in our hotel. Warm regards
The hotel is nicely located on the sea shore, in front of the motu (small islands) and has a small beach. The restaurant is quite good, not so cheap as all the restaurants on the island, the food is good and local. Service in the restaurant is quite nice. The lesser points wich make the experience not so paradise like as wished : the concrete blocks to reach the beach are not sexy, and when the restaurant is closed you actually need to walk through the sea to get back to the hotel... The bungalows deserve to be renewed : the bathroom space and the furnniture seems to date of the eighties. Even if clean, it is dated. No air conditioning in the bungalows, we can live without, but we'd expect that standard to be reached given the price of the rooms. Could do better !

Yes, there are kayaks, standup paddle boards, boats and tour boats there. The motu has tours, and we saw people staying there. I don't think there is still a hotel on the motu, but the Hibiscus Hotel has everything you could want. Don't forget to go to see the Belvedere.
