We wanted to stay in a castle in N Wales that was as original as possible. Gwydir was perfect. Sympathetic restoration & interiors in keeping to its Tudor roots yet with a comfy 4 poster, massive en suite & pot of tea with china cups on arrival. Delicious Welsh breakfast ( cooked to your request as we needed dairy free... More

Step into the wee entrance door , notice the peacocks , as you push open a massively heavy old castle door ...so the adventure begins. If you appreciate our ( collective)history, and understand the need to protect and save all that we can learn from ancient buildings, then this is truly heaven...heaven with thee best candlelight breakfast ever....heaven with crisp... My partner had read Judy's book numerous times so I knew this would be a perfect birthday treat and it didn't disappoint. We stayed in the Kings room which as on a grand scale with uneven old floors, stone mullioned windows, tapestries and fantastic views over the grounds including the very large topiary rabbit!. As a guest we were able... More

Having read Castles in the air by Judy (owner) we were very excited to visit, experience and stay at Gwdir Castle. What an incredible weekend we had. The most beautiful home restored to is true former glory so sympathetic to its history. We truly enjoyed wondering through the gardens and relaxing with a bottle of wine. Our room was gorgeous.... We stayed here for two nights over a weekend, and it was truly fantastic The owners have spent 22 years bringing it up to its current standard, and it it just fabulous. The peacocks were out in their splendour, including a few little chicks. A tour round the old part of the house is fascinating, such a magical history, I... More

This bnb is amazing. A restored 15 th century castle with resident owners happy to talk about the castle history and their restoration experience which is fascinating. Nothing was too much trouble for manager Paddy who gave us a conducted personal tour and served a great breakfast in an historic dining room.

We stayed in the Duke of Beaufort's chamber which did have the private bathroom next door which was no problem. Our room was quiet and totally enjoyable for a non - modernized ancient castle. This was NOT a Holiday Inn built with a facade of a castle, this was the real thing including sloped creaky floors, cobwebs and windows that... More

Very romantic castle, we stayed there for two nights . Rooms are charming and clean. The atmosphere is medieval. The visit in the Castle is extraordinary. Peacocks give a special atmosphere and the garden is very romantic and charming . Breakfast is delicious and plentiful, with eggs and bacon, served in a beautiful room of the castle. We had a... I had no idea what to expect based on the photos on their website but it was stunning. We were so impressed with the castle and the grounds and the room. It's very true to the old feel of the place - limited electric lights, slanted bathroom floor etc. It was a great experience - and the bed in the... More

“they are all unique - one is self catering (the Gate House) I believe, but all are warm and spacious. I liked the Duke of Beauforts room because the peacocks would fly up to the roof opposite and sit outside the window - beautiful.”
