Llechwen Hall Hotel, nestled in a serene location with stunning views, often receives compliments for its clean, well-appointed rooms and beautiful grounds. However, some guests have experienced dated rooms and service inconsistencies, ranging from friendly and efficient to neglectful. The atmospheric hotel is lauded for its modern yet homely decor and the quality of its dining options, though opinions on value for money are mixed, with praise for the Sunday lunch but criticism for overpriced drinks and certain rooms.

We stayed at Llechwen Hall for 7 nights after a series of disasters meant our holiday plans had to change. Upon booking I made two requests, interconnected rooms for us and our children rather than two rooms where one adult and one child would spend each night and dog friendly rooms within a very short time I received an e-mail to say this was no problem and they were looking forward to welcoming us. This really set the tone for our stay. From the moment we arrived the staff were polite, welcoming, friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. As we were there for a week we knew our room wouldn’t be cleaned but were told just to let them know if we needed anything additional, on the couple of occasions we did the requests were sorted instantly and again without any issues.
We had breakfast in the room one morning, this was very nice. It was brought up to the room at the time specified, was hot and plentiful - the Welsh breakfast was lovely.
On another evening we ate in the restaurant, we chose to eat later so those with younger children had already eaten and we could enjoy a quieter meal. As this is a family hotel earlier in the evening we found the restaurant quite noisy and although this is a positive that it is family orientated we chose to eat later for a more relaxed feel. The food was delicious. I had pie of the day which was lamb and potato, the meal was hearty and I couldn’t actually finish the whole dish.
The hotel itself was always immaculately clean, the room, bathrooms and communal areas were spotless and COVID procedures were also in place and well thought out without feeling too overwhelming. The rooms were spacious and also well equipped, we had one particularly rainy day where we never left the hotel but stayed in and played games and watched TV and the rooms were large enough to do this.
Location wise we felt the hotel was well placed for exploring South Wales, we went far and wide during our stay from Cardiff to The Mumbles and many other places in between.
Pontypridd is only a short drive away and has good amenities and supermarkets too, places to eat and drink and was nice to venture out for somewhere close by.
We would definitely recommend Llechwen Hall, the staff were wonderful and the hotel was clean, comfortable and a lovely place to enjoy some time away.

Llechwen Hall was a delightful surprise, the road up to the hotel is very poor but once you reach your destination you want be disappointed. On arrival we were really impressed with the reception area, the receptionist who checked us in was really friendly. When we arrived at out room what can I say it was amazing there was not one negative thing I could say about it. We went down to the main hotel was a few drinks before dinner, although this part of the hotel is old and obviously in the process of being refurbished it was very pleasant, spotlessly clean and the bar staff again were very nice. Dinner, shown to our table which had a lovely red long stem rose on it, food was delivered piping hot, we had a short wait for our side order for our mains but the waitress was very good and we were brought 2 glasses of prosecco. Food was great, service was good. Breakfast was a bit of a let down, although it didn't detract from our stay. I will definitely be going back once the refurbishment is complete

My partner, two dogs and I stayed at Llechwen Hall in July and again in August whilst visiting family. The hotel is blissfully quiet as it is set on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside - at night all you hear are sheep in the nearby fields. Our room was tastefully decorated, and we had ample space. The dressing table/desk area was well-positioned, with decent lighting and plenty of sockets. The room had a separate table and chairs, so enough space for us to eat our room service meals (the restaurant was closed due to covid restrictions). We also had a sofa in the room. The bed was large and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and had a waterfall shower with good water pressure.

Outside there is ample car parking, and there are pleasant areas in the well tended grounds to sit and enjoy the views.

We found the staff members friendly, cheerful and attentive, despite the additional hygiene requirements and restrictions they have to abide by at present.

We plan to stay at Llechwen again in the near future.

Haven't been out for quite a while obviously. The Hotel and the scenic views were absolutely stunning and we were welcomed by a very attentive receptionist. The room although so small was clean and the bed quite comfortable there was a noise similar to a boiler that was heard intermittently but overall all very happy with the hotel itself. Now the problem we ordered our table and went down to eat in the the restaurant.
As we sat down on a very sticky brown table we noticed the dead flies and very dirty cutlery. All of the tables had no tablecloth and were the same sticky old condition. you felt like you were eating in a greasy diner. The selection was very limited and and did not offer anywhere near a usual menu. We were unable to get up and go go somewhere else due to the location and immediately wished we weren't there. I then went to use the napkin and saw this... See pictures.
So after cleaning are own cutlery and trying to make the best of it we noticed the waiter (with his mask half over his mouth and chin... (Either wear it or don't wear it for god's sake) prepare are another table with cutlery directly on the dirtiest table you would ever want to see. At this point I said to him, "don't you think you should clean that table before you laid it out out"? With attitude he marched off to find some spray and get rid of all the crumbs left by the previous diner. The other guests applauded the fact I spoke out as they all said that was really bad.
The food was good, ...expensive but good. Didn't expect the Little non branded sachets of sauce either! Very poor! We rushed our food and without dessert decided to just go. We were only there less than an hour. When the the junior manager ask me how was everything, I was again going to to not say anything but he could see I wasn't happy and and asked again. After telling him, He agreed this was not acceptable and knocked the two small drinks we had off the Bill.
I think this hotel could do with knowing what makes a restaurant comfortable and and definitely train their staff in not only how to to wait on a table but to learn how to wear a face mask. Shame as we needed better because of all of the recent restrictions. close but will never go there again ever!

It was by chance that we came across the Sunday night offer so decided to treat ourselves. It included Sunday lunch, bed and breakfast. On arrival we were given a warm welcome and were allocated room 218. First impressions at reception were that covid procedures were well thought out and clear including a one way system, hand sanitiser and track and trace. Our room 218 was gleaming. Every surface had been polished and the shower and toilet were sparkling. The cleaning staff are amazing! The room and corridors were modern and bright. Also the bed was super comfortable. Our 3 course Sunday lunch was excellent. Thank you to the restaurant manager, chef and staff on duty. Nothing was too much trouble and service was prompt. The lounge area was comfortable and outdoor seating areas lovely and overlooking fields and distant valley towns. Our only issue was that only bottles of lager were available because the pumps hadn't yet been filled following lock down. We also used room service and sampled the sandwiches and chips later on that evening in our room. Breakfast the following morning was also delivered to the room and the choice was extensive. In particular we'd like to thank Joe on reception whose pleasant demeanour and helpfulness was second to none. He is a true asset to Llechwen Hall. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

We’ve just come to the end of a two night stay at the newly renovated Llechwen Hall Hotel. As it’s still under Covid restrictions, the restaurant is closed and all food at the time of our stay (dinners, breakfast, any additional room service) are for room only. We knew this ahead of booking so opted only for breakfast for which we paid an additional £9.95 per person per night at check in which I felt at the time to be reasonable. The room we were given was 108, a superior room on the ground floor. Overall a very spacious and well appointed room, though with a view of the bin store and not much else. Finish is very good (with good quality furniture and fittings), although the toilet roll holder in this room is hanging off the wall. Toiletries are decent but were near to empty and as the rooms aren’t serviced (I’m assuming due to Covid), the conditioner had run out after just two nights. There was also only one toilet roll which wasn’t new when we arrived. So again we’d have had to ask for this to be replenished had we stayed another night. There’s also no hairdryers in the rooms so these have to be requested which I found really odd. As the rooms aren’t serviced, breakfasts also pile up in the room. I did think to ring to ask on returning the first night to find it all still sat there, but the call I made to reception rang off with no one answering and we were tired and just went to bed. Breakfast is okay but nothing to write home about. On the first morning the food was all present as ordered but mostly cold. On the second, there were two missing items and the vegetarian sausages ordered were sent as meat ones. Fortunately for the staff I’m ‘flexitarian’ rather than strictly vegetarian or this could have been a lot more unfortunate. For the price, I think the hotel could be doing more. Staff are friendly overall but check in/check out wasn’t as hospitable as you’d expect for Wales (certainly not as friendly as we have found other places to be) and the hotel overall isn’t quite punching as hard as it needs to for price. If you’re doing a score card style menu order then it’s not much to expect the eight or so items ordered to be correct. In its favour are a superb hillside location with (I’d assume from some rooms) stunning views, plenty of parking and very tastefully redecorated rooms. Against are the cost of these rooms given you’re actually a fair trek from tourist spots, cities etc. and that meals in rooms are delivered with a smile but without care. I’d stay again but I think give the hotel a bit more time to find its feet first.

We booked this hotel last minute due to a broken camper van and stayed for one week with two adults, two children and a dog.

We booked via booking.com but put in the notes we’d like joining rooms which were confirmed by staff before arrival

The hotel was Covid 19 safe (in my opinion) with one way systems, cleaning, masks etc. The hotel was very clean throughout.

Rooms were lovely and very clean on arrival. The rooms were good size with comfy beds and nice big bathrooms. Due to Covid they were not cleaned during the stay which was explained and understandable but towels, bedding, tea and coffee were available on request which was never too much trouble for staff.

Staff were great, very friendly and nothing too much trouble.

Food was lovely. We had breakfast a couple of times and dinner once. When we went for dinner there was lots of young children so we asked if we could come back in an hour and it was fine. Pie was lovely and so was the ham hock.

Location is great for exploring South Wales. Most places we went we an hour drive but worth a visit.

All in all it’s a very clean, pet and family friendly hotel with good food.

We booked this break as a special deal, bed and breakfast in a superior room for £44 each. A bottle of wine and welsh cakes were in the room on arrival. I contacted the hotel before and requested a certain wine which was no problem for the hotel to do. I also asked for a room where we could see the stars as the hotel is situated in a Dark Sky area. The moon rose right in front of our bedroom window which was a huge plus.
Our superior room was virtual brand new as due to Covid not many people had stayed in the hotel after the new extension had been built. There were so many sockets to plug your phone/I pad into I lost count. Really useful in this day and age. The wi-fi was fast and stable.
The bed was memory foam and so comfy. The large shower was powerful and easy to use. Loved the smell of the toiletries which were in dispensers on the wall. Even though there was a wedding happening 20 yards away from our room we couldn't hear a thing. There was no noise from the other guests too.
We loved our evening meal and breakfast and the staff worked hard to make sure you enjoy your stay.
The hotel is understaffed at the moment, as many in the hospitality are. This shows in the upkeep of the outside areas. As in a previous review a few days before we stayed, the bin is still over flowing in the car park. This is the first impression people have of the hotel and it isn't good. We were told we could sit outside and enjoy the sun but the only area to sit was filthy. The floor was littered in cigarette ends and the circular tables were dumped anywhere and the glass tops needed a good wash. It wouldn't take long to correct this, a good clean and placing the chairs around the tables would make it into a lovely area to sit with a drink. This is why the hotel is 4 and not 5 stars.
This is a lovely hotel to have a relaxing break and we would stay again.

Stayed here for one night whilst on business trip in area & cannot fault the overall quality of my stay. The Hotel itself commands a lovely location on top of Hill, with stunning views over the valleys & beyond. Equally for those wanting to put on the walking Boots, there is plenty of walk ways to trek along. The quality of the Hotel & room stay (mine was 225) could not be faulted, with lovely King size Bed, clean & fresh Linen, matched by high standard of room furnishings. Good night sleep had & also had Room service that was prompt & of good quality. Staff in all met from Reception team to waiting, all friendly & helpful, as to the Head Chef met. Have stayed in much more costly Hotels & said higher rating, that do not compare with what this Hotel has to offer. The Hotel caters well for those looking for a wedding venue, as has a huge Marquee area attached to the back of Hotel & views from it & over valley's will give many lasting wedding Photo memories for sure. So whether your seeking a business, leisure, pleasure trip/stay or a wedding location with great grounds & location, the Llechwen Hall Hotel will cater for all. I will be back for sure when working in area again.

We booked the hotel less than 24 hours from arrival. We were in Cardiff for Ed Sheeran and all local hotels were either fully booked or priced extortionately.

Even with a 30 minute drive from Cardiff to get to hotel, we weren’t disappointed. The hotel was set in lovely surrounded amongst rolling fields. The road up to hotel is lined with sheep.

Check-in was easy, we were asked if we wanted to make a dinner reservation, or add breakfast to which we declined both, so cannot comment on the quality of food.

We were given Room 214 on the Second Floor. It had been refurbished to a high and modern standard, but felt homely. Bed was comfy. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided. Nice view out the Juliet balcony.

The only downside (and why I couldn’t give 5 stars) is the need for soundproofing. The walls are very thin, and you almost make out conversations from adjoining rooms. Additionally as there was a wedding on there was a lot of noisy children and likely drunk adults making quite a bit of noise gone midnight in the corridor. In the morning you could also hear the conversations of housekeeping staff.

Aside from that, I enjoyed the stay and may consider returning if I’m ever in the area, but it may be worth finding out if there is a wedding scheduled first.
