After having the most disgusting experience at a shanklin hotel and checking out after one night, this hotel saved our family holiday! We were able to book the remainder of our holiday here last minute and when we arrived they even upgraded us to a sea view superior suite with balcony it was the best outcome ever! The lady on reception (I’m so sorry I think her name was Becky) was the most helpful and attentive and friendly staff member we could have hoped for and fully understood our situation and being 7 months pregnant our upgrade was fantastic. The swimming pool was fantastic for the kids, there’s a really lovely spacious big bar with pool table and terrace to enjoy and so close to everything! Would stay again! Bad points- there’s not loads, but the parking system is a bit weird but doable, no fans in the rooms and they didn’t have any to lend and breakfast wasn’t included and would have been very expensive for all of us everyday…
Very rude and unhelpful staff (not all), outdated decor, threadbare carpets and communal areas not cleaned. Fire doors were locked open. There was no escape plan in the bedrooms. Our bedroom door was ill fitting. It would be interesting to know when the fire authority last inspected this hotel. Surrounding area shabby with derelict and burned out hotels. There were a couple of nice bars on the seafront.
Rude receptionist to begin with I hadn’t been informed I needed to show my payment card on arrival even though I had paid in full. She was exceptionally rude not fitting as her role is in hospitality. After a long journey it was really stressful. I paid £1,500 for four nights with no breakfast and no new towels or room cleaned - a hotel cashing in on covid. The sea view would of been great but either side of my room were heavy smokers on the shared balcony which the hotel allow so door had to be kept shut. The poor reviews on trip advisor are all true - and I tried to communicate this with reception but they were unhelpful - I do not recommend this hotel - save your money.
Like much of the front facing the Sandown beach, the building is old. The carpeting throughout is faded and worn. The room (46) was adequate but during our stay 'due to Covid-19' requirements, room cleaning etc was minimal. - View marred by a large flat roof directly in front of rooms but the beach could be seen from the sides. - Facilities were adequate but the mattress a disgrace; like being on a trampoline in a high sea and squeaking badly with the slightest move! One of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in. - TV is fixed to the wall over the desk and cannot be angled/viewed when in bed. Could so easily be relocated to the wall at the foot of the bed. - No shelf in the very small and cramped shower. - No USB ports in any of the double sockets. Could so easily be remedied, at the desk and at each bedside. - Adjacent rooms on the single long, small balcony are only separated by a 'courtesy' chain to separate each room's balcony. If you face your own room, you cannot miss looking into the neighbouring room. Simple courtesy panels between each room from hip height to about 1.75 metres would solve the problem. - Despite all the above comments, we enjoyed our stay. All staff were friendly and helpful and the young lady, Ella (I think is her name) looking after our room was helpful, as, indeed, were all the staff. The hotel, tired as it is, is badly let down by so much of that area of the front being derelict which only detracts from the overall experience. The authorities on the IoW should be ashamed of themselves that they allow this disgraceful state of the frontage being in such a dilapidated condition. - For the costs involved, very poor value for money.…
Hotel..old & dated. Bedrooms, old furniture, smelly, dusty, dirty windows, horrible carpets..bathrooms not bad.. did not eat there but breakfast is available for £5, not worth it... Location great, on beach... Reception staff...rude, unhelpful, not interested in any constructive comments..hardly saw any staff about.. Entertainment...none...no music or daytime activities except pool table...there is an indoor pool.. hotel had no life to it, no atmosphere...lounge areas ..large but boring, no bar open till 4pm, no tea coffee areas...no snack bars... Parking is a joke...pay extra to ensure a parking space, but it's not close to the hotel, inconveniently down road...and hotel has 30 free spaces if your lucky to get one...
