After reading some reviews I was sceptical about what I might find at this hotel on my coach trip on 27th June. I was pleasantly surprised.Lovely hotel, friendly staff, entertainment, hot showers and a comfortable clean bed.The lift broke and was quickly fixed, housekeeping was friendly and attentive.Well stocked teabags, coffee etc Cleanliness 8.5/10 Food 8.5/10
Non existent room cleaning. Breakfast only edible if you get there early ... preferably before the coach parties or theres little left and Lilliputian plates to use too! .Not enough and on the whole disinterested staff throughout bar the odd one. Broken toilet seat reported on arrival. Still broke on check out 4 days later. Minimal catering for those with special dietary needs. Had to ask for this daily and no gluten free bread available on last day. Bizarre gaudy statue which looked like an outdoor fountain in one of the lounges... Won't rush back here!
Came to the island for a friend's big birthday, haven't been here before. Paid £70+ per night stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was surreal, club music on despite it being Sunday morning. Predominantly elderly clientèle so not exactly creating a nice atmosphere for them. No interaction from waiting staff, not even to say good morning. Bacon was swimming and eggs had been out too long. Saw the waitress dumping scrambled eggs out into the buffet from a sauce bucket, not exactly appetising. Breakfast only a 2 hour service yet staff were getting their own breakfast. I would have been in so much trouble had I done that in my waitressing days from my hostess. Won't come back. No WiFi in rooms, no fresh fruit. Yoghurt warm, not kept on ice.
The hotel was grubby and very dusty. Needs deep cleaning and lots of TLC. Feels neglected and uncared for. There were notices to inform that they were short staffed, so rooms only being cleaned on alternate days, but ours wasn't touched on either of the 2 days we stayed. Had to collect clean towels, more coffee, and toilet rolls from reception. On the plus side the towels were clean and fluffy, the bed comfortable, and a good shower. Food was hit and miss. If got to breakfast at beginning of service, there was enough and it was hot, go later and very little left, and the hot food was cold. Evening meal average. Staff friendly and helpful in bar and dining room, and worked hard. Such a shame, as it is in a lovely setting, with lots of outside seating, and a good location. Probably wouldn't choose to go here again.…
We have just returned from this Hotel, the very few staff are lovely and polite, but are under extreme pressure as there are so few of them. Rooms are clean and tidy, public areas inside acceptable, Breakfast is buffet style, but every day we had to ask for more plates or cups, or eggs which I waited 15 mins, it was a case of take cutlery from other tables because they were not re-laid after being used, The food was edible but not brilliant We thought we could get an evening meal, but were told that they cater for the coaches not other residents, as Chef is too busy. They advertise pizza or toasted sandwich, again Chef is too busy we don't offer that anymore, but the board id still out offering it. When questioned at reception the manager was most rude, Bar was dire, they ran out of bottled beer twice and went to cash and carry the following day for ONE box which ran out again, pump for coke or lemonade was broken, and no bottled coke, again management most unhelpful, the poor staff were so embarrassed, but it is out of their hands We felt so sorry for the staff they work long hours, you can see they are not happy…
The hotel is a bit dated but fine for us and well located. We were advised they were short of staff but this did not cause any problems. The gent on reception was always very helpful. Rooms and beds are good but missed WiFi. This does work downstairs. There are lifts to all floors. Breakfast was good and the staff worked hard to keep things going. We were surprised to find a full sized snooker table that was free to use. We ate out every night so can't comment on evening meals or entertainment. With the location of this hotel and price we would be happy to stay again.
Me and my husband were on a Shearings holiday and stayed at this hotel. Firstly I would like to say that the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the hotel was very understaffed, the staff that were there worked very hard but I feel lacked guidance as all very young. The food apart from breakfast was I'm afraid terrible, I've never had purple coq au van before! And my husbands gammon steak was ALL fat, the restaurant manager was very nice and offered to change the food but we declined, the manager was most apologetic. We had to speak to the deputy manager of the hotel concerning another meal and I'm afraid he was just full of excuses. The setting is beautiful but I feel that the hotel needs an injection of money to bring it up to standard
Quiet location, lovely grounds with peaceful setting Excellent value for quality Friendly, professional staff and very helpful Interesting historic building Clean, comfortable rooms with nice views Overall excellent, especially for the price Thanks for a very nice stay
'There's no dinner service this week due to three coach loads staying - your room is in the green zone but it was in the blue zone some 15 minutes walk to the green zone and back to reception who apologised then to the blue zone and I have sciatica - the lift is out of action - there are two flights of stairs to the first landing - breakfast is 7.30 to 9.40 but will be very busy with the coach groups and its buffet' that's how I was greeted at reception. We ate out each night and had breakfast out each morning. The Hotel is dowdy dated and seemed to lack staff. It's seems to be aiming at the coach trade so staying as a private guest lacked any finesse. Piles of laundry on the fire escape routes plus fire doors wedged open and the lift out of action and signs were not new despite being told an engineer was on his way. Best thing it was quite cheap.…
Awful !! We walked in and walked out. Room dirty, Stains on carpet- the door to terrace did not open. Smelt of damp. Completely unacceptable. To be fair hotel agreed it was not a room that they would stay in and refunded our money on the spot so guess we weren’t the first to complain! AVOID
