Stayed for a weekend visit to the Island, room was in a good state of decoration but mattress was worn out and having to listen to the frequent clicks and clunks of the ancient lift next to the room was a bit annoying. Breakfast was awful ,stuck to poached eggs on toast as the only edible option !
Visited with a friend for a few days as part of a coach trip. Staff outstanding, couldn’t do enough for us, always cheerful and welcoming especially Charlie, Jules Debbie & Maria. Lovely heated pool & Spa. Food was plentiful and delicious. Room was basic & dated but clean with a comfortable bed. Nightly entertainment excellent especially Jimi. Good position across the road from the Pier & shops just around the corner.
A very well run hotel where the friendly management does it's best to make one comfortable. The hotel is opposite the old Royal Pier, if you like that sort of 'kiss-me-quick' entertainment, and so of course right off the clean sandy beach. There is a lift, but it is very small, taking about two people with luggage, so I found it quicker to take the stairs! The hotel caters for vegetarians and vegans , but you really do have to register your choice when signing in, as the chef needs to know. If you forget, then you can do it later, and there is always a salad option on the main menu, which is very unusual, and the first time I have encountered this, as most hotels seem to avoid salads. I didn't use the pool, as my days were so busy, and I was sorry for that. There are both buses and a train to Sandford, which connect to the ferry ports, but the station and bus stop is up a very steep hill from the hotel, as is the town. There are lots of well maintained beach huts along from the hotel, which attest to how popular the resort was in the past, but unfortunately the island Council has not invested in the town in the last forty years, and it shows! The town is very run down and sad, and covid has just hastened it's demise.…
Very poor hotel rooms no bathroom towel rails shelves for toiletries no shower gel etc. Poor facilities no hairdryer broken furniture no wardrobe f Food not good not much choice and not very well cooked Would not consider staying here again and would not recommend it
It is a pity that Sandown no longer has the grandeur of a beachtown. Also this hotel wants to keep its head up, but needs some work. On the other hand you don't have to pay a lot either. Nevertheless for a next trip I wouldn't choose Sandown. I'd advise Ryde as there is more to do.
Had the displeasure of staying at this hotel at the weekend. I was put in room 14, a box room next to the lift. It was very noisy. It’s not suitable as a bedroom due to being next to the lift with no soundproofing. I was moved to room 48 which was filthy and disgusting. The mattress was uncomfortable with springs sticking through. My friend was put into room 25A, which was next to the fire door and was woken up every time someone went through. Rather than relocate her after two hours of sleep, staff wedged the fire door open, in breach of regulations. Room 25A is totally unsuitable for a bedroom. Three people I spoke to all had issues with terrible mattresses. The menu includes ploughman’s for dinner, or sausages mask and sprouts! Milk (for the tea) in the rooms was out of date. Peanuts in the bar are out of date. The hotel corridors are filthy and in bad order. The only positive is some lovely staff in the dining room. Stay away this is the worse hotel I’ve stayed in!…
This is a really friendly hotel in an excellent location by the sea. The interior is grand Victorian and very well presented. Our seaview room was light and newly decorated. The staff are dedicated to serving the guests. The food could be better but you can stay room only.
The hotel staff were very friendly. The bar area and restaurant although dated were tidy. The food was a little bland and not a lot to choose from. The room was horrible. Avocado green shower with shower curtain that stuck to you. Dark patches on ceiling and behind the toilet and bathroom windows were dirty. The room decoration and condition was very tired. Didn’t help that we overlooked the bins, which was noisy at times. The corridor walls have wallpaper peeling off.
Just return from a lovely break at this hotel,Our room had great seaviews and the bar staff were pleasant. The food was good and my request for different vegtables was no problem the dining room staff were polite and very friendly ,special thanks to Shauna who waited at our table.Only complaint was the tepid water in the mornings For what we paid great value.
