2022 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
India's finest Wilderness Experience, Kanha Earth Lodge, is spread in 16 acres of natural forest, tucked away in a small hamlet bordering Kanha’s buffer zone. Its unique location, 30 minutes from the Khatia/Kisli park gate, ensures that it is close enough for easy access to the park, but still far enough from the glut of hotels lining Kanha’s tourist hub to offer guests a true wilderness experience. The 12 luxury bungalows with large open verandahs of this Wildife Resort in Kanha National Park have been inspired by Gond tribal architecture and offer environmentally sensitive, low-impact accommodation through their design and use of local stone and waste wood. While the absence of neighbouring lodges or highways creates an ideal setting for nature walks, birding and cycling trips through the surrounding forest.

What an amazing place! In all aspects, decor, food, crowd, services and mainly attention to details with personalised touch to people who are staying. The peaceful evenings between the woods make it a memorable experience. I highly recommend this place!

This lodge lives up to its title of an eco lodge. There is zero utilization of single use plastic, recycled paper is is used for paper products, glass bottles utilized for soaps, shampoos and lotions, use of metal products to serve meals including those while out on safari, metal canisters for water and drinks on safari to name a few. We were given metal water flasks to use and keep as a souvenir. Laundry is inexpensive and they encourage sending larger loads to prevent water waste. Hospitality is very warm at this lodge, service given with a smile. There are hot and cold drinks to start and end your safari, along with wet towels to clean up after the dusty safaris. The room attendants do a wonderful job of cleaning the rooms in an unobtrusive manner to where you don’t really see them but you room is cleaned regularly and night turn down. The rooms are large and well appointed, the shower is amazing. Hot water available within 10 minutes of you turning on the power to the water heater. The shower was large and there were 2 toilets in the bathroom area. Electronic safes and decent storage area for clothes. Coffee and tea station along with some cookies in the hallway, along with a constant supply of drinking water flasks. A lovely balcony with seating facing the jungle. Each cottage is very private and set up so you can’t see other guests. There’s also a lovely sit out area in the room. Air conditioning was efficient and each room also had ceiling fans. Food was amazing - fresh ingredients, clean eating. Vegetables are mostly from their own garden ( you can tour the garden and butterfly farm ). Pace yourself at meals because there is fresh home made ice cream in a different flavor paired with a small dessert at lunch and dinner. Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. We had multiple food requests in our group and the kitchen and wait staff fulfilled them to our satisfaction. The delicious meals are Thalis from different regions of India. Service at the dining hall and bar was quick and efficient. Appetizers are served while you watch a documentary in the evenings. We had two wonderful dinners set up outdoors. The team set up a dinner outdoors by the pool (complete with candles and warm bonfires ) our second night. This was to allow my parents to experience the outdoors meal since they were leaving a day early. The following night all the guests were treated to an outdoor dinner in the middle of what felt like the jungle. The menu was wonderful local dishes. Again there were little fires set up to take off the evening chill. It was truly magical. Breakfasts in the bush were variety of Indian items plus boiled eggs, bananas, pastries and was good, the coffee was also very good. For the hot afternoon game drives, there was cold lime water to keep us hydrated and refreshed. You definitely will not go hungry. For colder mornings, we were given blankets and hot water bottles to stay warm on the game drives. For the hot afternoon drives there were flasks with cold lime water. The reason most guests probably visit this lodge is to go on the safari. We had wonderful tiger sightings each day, along with seeing a variety of other animals and birds. We were fortunate to have Harpreet as our guide - his passion for the animals was evident and he was very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora of the region. Kanha’s forests are breathtaking. The lodge itself is set in a very natural setting, giving you the feeling of luxury in the jungle. We had to make last minute changes to my parents plans and again the staff at the lodge took care of all the logistics of finding a hotel in Raipur and making arrangements for transportation, including a ride to the airport the next morning. Big kudos to Harpreet and the entire team for running such a wonderful lodge. We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this lodge and hope to be able to go back again.

Stayed in this resort for 3 nights and everything was good. The staff was very polite and courteous. The food is good. The biggest fallout was wen I wanted to clear my consumption bills. Very casually the reception guy asks me that how wud I clear my bal of room tariff ! By cash or card. Now as per the rules of the property one has to clear 100% in advance . Where comes such a question and that too without checking from their booking office. I had paid full amount way back in Feb and hv the details with me which I eventually showed to the resort guy. Now isn’t that unprofessional from a group which claims to run so many properties god knows where all. Offended is one word which I felt and wud not recommend anyone to patronise such a group.

This is our 2nd trip to Kanha in 3 years. So, it felt like a homecoming when we meet the old faces (staff) at the lodge. The hospitality extended in this property has been brilliant. Harpreet, the ever-smiling manager (and now a friend of ours) and so as all the other staff at the lodge were so helpful and always attending to every need of ours with a smile. This time, we stayed at Cottage 12, the one at the end of the property, this also provided an added privacy [not that the other cottages don’t have privacy]. The cottage was neat and clean, very spacious, and comfortable with big ensuite bathrooms. The resort and the rooms are beautifully and aesthetically designed using local materials from the region. Each cottage also had a small veranda/porch where you can relax with a book / coffee when you are in your room and not engaged in any other activities. Food was excellent, each day with a slightly different twist to the menu for lunch or dinner. Don't miss out on the bonfire evenings, enjoying a drink and kebabs while sharing your safari stories with fellow visitors or interact with the staff. You may also want to check out the paintings of wildlife, the amazing art by Sonu in between your break between morning and afternoon game drives. Game drives were well organized, Ashu – our guide (with whom we had done safaris even in our earlier trip) had been very good. Although we were unlucky to spot tigers during this trip despite taking 5 safaris (including one night safari), sightings at the park in general was pretty good. Night safari had been very different, more than the sightings it was the experience that mattered. We wish to thank the entire team at Kanha Earth Lodge for giving us a truly memorable holiday and I’m sure we will be back again soon. We love the property; we love the jungle …

We enjoyed a lovely few days exploring Kanha from this lodge. Great food, comfortable, private, spacious rooms with big ensuite bathrooms. The staff were exceptionally helpful, and the naturalists and drivers knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We were lucky to have some exceptional tiger sightings in the park.

Pugdundee has done an amazing job with their resorts . From the bookings team to the team at the lodges it was a superb experience given their professionalism and attention to details .The resorts are beautifully and aesthetically designed highlighting the regions materials and culture . The selection , training and attentiveness of the staff is applaudable. The teams at the resort made us feel totally pampered and the safaris to the national park were very memorable. The meals prepared were excellent and the F and B team gave us great local food.. The manager of the resort Mr Harpreet took a great deal of personal interest and ensured he took us to the park himself and being a keen birder and naturalist he was perfectly suited for our group . He went out of his way and ensured we had a great stay . Sightings at the park were amazing and we really enjoyed the safaris. We wish to thank the entire team at Kanha Earth Lodge for giving us a truly exhilarating , and memorable holiday

Oh my goodness - what an incredible place with the best staff ever! From the moment we arrived at the earth lodge, after a very long journey, we knew that we were in the hands of the kindest, most professional staff. Hartreep, the manager, greeted us so warmly and kindly, and we met the lovely and knowledgeable Tarkik, our guide to our brilliant safaris. Our room was perfect and we loved the effort the lodge made in terms of sustainability. The food was really excellent and the chef was a lovely man who would have responded to any dietary requests (we didn’t have any because everything was perfect). I was particularly touched by the sense of a small team working to look after the guests in every way, making us tea before our early morning safaris, preparing us breakfast to take with us, bringing us hot water bottles at night, even giving us immunity-boosting drinks with lemon and turmeric on our return from our safaris. I was also moved by the work the team had done during the Covid lockdown which was to build a butterfly garden with an enormous number of butterflies gathering there. Seeing two tigers was, of course, an added bonus - but even if we hadn’t seen them, staying at the Earth Lodge was a peak experience for us. Thanks to everyone for making it so special for us.
