We stayed here one night and it was a strange experience. I phoned ahead to warn that we would be checking in late, but the owner gave the impression he had no record of my booking. When I mentioned Booking.com he said hadn’t looked at that website for some time but “if it says you have a booking, then you must have”. It appeared from this that he was not taking the accommodation side of his business very seriously.. When we arrived at the place (actually a bar with rooms upstairs) he told us loudly, in front of his guests and more than once, that we were late. It was probably his idea of a joke, but after doing a 25 mile charity walk it wasn’t what we needed to hear. He also complained that he’d have to do extra cleaning because of our walking boots and yet our boots weren’t actually dirty. We also found an old rail ticket from a previous guest on the floor, so maybe cleaning wasn’t that much of a priority after all. As for the room, it was noisy (above the high street with no double glazing) and the wash basin was the old fashioned type with no mixer for hot and cold water. There was no toilet paper dispenser. He didn’t give us a wi fi code (a basic service nowadays), and one that we found written on a scrap of paper in the hallway didn’t work.…
Bar 24 is so friendly. We had a few really quality night at this very smart bar. Prices are reasonable and the banter flowed. It is centrally located on the Main Street, Brian the patron very kindly lays on some Indian on Friday evening. We ShLl be back. X Jes and Eileen
Absolutely superb little bar the host cold not be more welcoming. If you want a sweet little boozer on holiday can’t go wrong and the peroni is cheap! Would recommend. Would definitely return hero Ed every second it says a lot when it’s the place the locals hang out
My two girlfriends and I booked a table for the England game, Brian squeezed us in last minute and I’m so glad he did. Great atmosphere, Brian was warm and welcoming, very funny and our first round was very kindly on him! He dished out hot sausage rolls at half time, which were delicious, and kept us entertained all evening. Matthew behind the bar was lovely too and all the locals were very friendly. All in all a fabulous evening, thank you for your kind hospitality, just try and get rid of us now Brian! X
What a find, superb bar in Ventnor and Brian is a great host, very hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. The location is on the high street and close to the shops and restaurants. Great vibe and atmosphere especially when interacting with the locals. Thank you Brian for making us feel so welcome👍
The owner was super friendly and told us so much about where to go in Isle of Wight which was very friendly. A great place to watch the football and great atmosphere - 10/10 would recommend! Even brought us half time snacks. Thanks very much for a lovely evening
We were very disappointed with our stay at No.24. The rooms were very small, not particularly clean and were in need of a refurbishment but worst of all - the door of one room did not lock at all (even with the key) and the door of another room did not lock from the inside. As three women travelling alone this made us feel rather vulnerable, particularly when someone tried to enter one of the rooms in the middle of the night. We thought about complaining but to be honest felt a little intimidated when we first arrived, as you have to enter via a bar and there were quite several men who seemed to have been drinking for some time before we arrived (at 7pm). I think it was someone's birthday. Brian tried to be hospitable but we felt that he had been drinking too. The noise from the bar downstairs went on loudly and late into the night and we also heard shouting and swearing around 2am. All in all, not one to recommend I am afraid. The only covid-safe elements were hand sanitiser on the table on the landing. The bar did not feel covid-safe as it was a small area with tables very close to each other.…
Can't say enough good things about No.24. We had such a lovely stay. Fab location, right in the centre of town, lovely room, very clean and modern. The best thing by far though is Brian, he couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming, such a nice guy, made our stay special!
I am always reluctant to leave a less than glowing review as I appreciate that this can reflect on a business and the travel sector is obviously struggling at the moment. However, I depend on Tripadvisor so it would be remiss not to offer my view when I feel necessary. No24 is in a great location which is it's biggest selling point. We could have got unlucky with our room but it was very small, looking very tired and not the cleanest. The shower cubicle was minute and not once during our stay was the room cleaned. It needs a refurb or at the very least a lick of paint and I would personally be reluctant to stay again.
We were staying nearby and went to the bar most evenings. Great venue! Brian and the locals were very pleasant and helpful. Drinks are so reasonably priced. Best drinking venue on the Island! Would definitely recommend this venue 😁👍
