We booked an afternoon tea at The Wellington which we were looking forward to. It was purchased as a gift. It is a lovely hotel in Ventnor and has wonderful sea views. We were fortunate to be offered a table outside in the sunshine which was amazing. The two members of staff we met were lovely and were clearly working hard. However the afternoon tea was nothing special and was a little lack lustre. The scones were rock hard and inedible. We mentioned this to our waitress who was most apologetic and mentioned we weren’t the first customers to have passed comment! Casting our eyes around there were three other tables having afternoon tea, and the scones remained uneaten on those tables too. We were also aware there appeared to be an issue with understaffing with both the receptionist and waitress busily bustling about attending to customers. Upon checking out we discreetly mentioned to the receptionist our disappointment with aspects of the afternoon tea, mostly the scone issue. To be fair she was very apologetic and stated she would mention this to the chef. Overall though we left feeling just a little disappointed.

I brought my Mum & Dad here today for lunch. What a fabulous experience it was. The terrace is beautiful with sea views. The food was lovely and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Sophie was amazing and made us feel so welcome. We didn’t want to leave!! Very tempted to book a room here and I live locally!! Will definitely visit again for food and drinks. Thankyou for the most relaxing afternoon I’ve had in a long time!

Our stay was amazing. I had a Seaview balcony room so sat out and watched the surf roll in under blue skies. The new owner Andy made sure we were looked after. You could spend the whole day on the deck if the weather's nice. The hotel has been completely renovated and while there are still things to do the overall feel is comfortable, , stylish, relaxing and welcoming. We had tapas style small plates in the evening, local produce. Breakfast was plentiful and good. All in all Ventnor was a little oasis on the south coast and The Wellington the perfect spot to enjoy it.

Our room had a huge wrap around balcony with views to die for. Minutes after checking into the room, a knock at the door and Sophie presented us with 2 glasses of complimentary prosecco for my birthday How amazing. She is so happy to chat and is very welcoming. The outside decking is a fabulous place to unwind, with a private walkway down to the beach. Breakfast was insane. Scrambled eggs cooked in the pan with butter, the proper way. Beth at breakfast was a delight and couldn't be more helpful. Please be patient and kind. Staff are multi tasking. The industry has had a tough time. This hotel is situated perfectly and is a real gem. Thankyou guys for an unforgettable trip. We will be  back soon. Liza

We have just spent two nights at the Wellington hotel, Ventnor IoW. We were welcomed at reception with a glass of champagne and quickly checked in. There was a bit of confusion over our room and we requested a room with a sea view. This was quickly arranged and we were soon in a lovely room (23) with a magnificent view over Ventnor beach and the English Channel. There was a huge balcony/deck with comfortable chairs and table. Sadly the weather was cold but it would be incredible to sit there on a warm summers day and enjoy the view. The room itself was comfortable and warm. Large TV, coffee/tea maker, safe and hairdryer. Walk in shower with plenty of hot water and lovely big towels. Breakfast was in a charming dining room with logfire and lovely views. Really tasty full English breakfast plus loads of alternatives including Vegan menu. The hotel is in the process of reformation but it didn’t affect our stay at all. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Never having been to the Isle of Wight before we had no idea what to expect - Back to the 1950s - was how some people described it. Well our first impressions were very favourable as there are fantastic views from many points on the drive to Ventnor and although, on arrival, the hotel didn't look very imposing (and was awkward to get to as there had been a landslip and the road was closed) we were given a fantastic room (the best in the hotel - no.20) and we could not stop looking out of the windows at the amazing view. The room was huge and the bed was comfortable and the balcony was the icing on the cake. I took so many pictures and left the windows open so I could hear the waves crashing on the beach. Just loved this hotel, mostly because of our room, It was vey quiet when we were staying and there weren't many staff around, but the reception staff couldn't do enough for us and the complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival was very welcome. The breakfast was amazing and very good value a £10. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and it is a little tired in places, but it in a fantastic spot and OMG that view.

Very friendly helpful staff and a stunning location make this a special place to stay . We went to sleep listening to the sound of the sea and enjoyed sitting on the balcony with our morning tea. Only downside was the mattress was rather lumpy and uncomfortable and the noise which we found travels from other rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Thank you for looking after us
