We spent five nights at this excellent hotel. The room was small but well appointed and very comfortable and immaculate. The Hotel is a short walk from the seafront and town centre although the hill is quite steep but worth it when you get to the top; the views are fantastic. Service is spot on and a special mention goes to Andrea, the Hotel manager with her wonderful sense of humour and Sue who makes breakfast a delight. The food is pretty good too! Would we go back to Hillside? Without a doubt; can’t wait!
Not sure where to start: - Would agree with previous reviews that this is more a B&B, than a 5 star hotel; - Room extremely small with carpets, very different from what they advertise on their website; - The bed was so uncomfortable, that my husband had to sleep on the floor; - Too hot and with the window open, too noisy; - The owner had no insight about hurting susceptibilities of vegetarian costumers, saying the "chicken" was called "food"; and by the end of season all her animals would become a barbecue... We had booked 4 nights, left after one. The owner said we should have told her before what room we would prefer. A bit difficult, since the one we were given is nowhere to be seen on their website. Will definitely try to claim my money back
My wife and I enjoyed a four night stay here in June 2022. We were rewarded with a beautiful setting, wonderful food and wine and extremely courteous and professional service throughout our stay. This hotel grows a lot of the fruit and vegetables served with the meals and also has a small collection of goats, sheep and chickens.
Spent 5 nights at Hillside. This is an excellent hotel with friendly attentive staff who made us feel very welcome. The breakfasts and minimalistic furnished rooms are lovely. The hotel is in a good location looking out over ventnor to the sea.
This is a gem of a hotel. Location and views are stunning, service, friendliness and attention to detail of the staff and particularly Andrea was excellent. Food from great breakfast, afternoon tea to evening meal were superb. A beautiful bolt hole that makes a very pleasant change from the larger corporate establishments
Spent three nights at Hillside, home from home. We were made to feel very comfortable at the hotel and nothing was too much trouble. No tea making facilities in the room but that didn't matter when we could have a lovely pot of tea delivered in the morning. Parking is a little tight but Andrea was always on hand to sort things out and provide direction. Breakfast was a delight, served by either Sarah or Sue, very filling and we didn't need to eat again until dinner time. If visiting the Island again this hotel would be the place to stay.
Wonderful welcome to a small group gathering for a celebration. Nothing was to much trouble, the hotel was very comfortable, clean and the quality of the food was exceptional with a lot of the produce from the garden, so fresh and tasty. We have had a wonderful long weekend and felt sad to leave.
This is a small hotel, but delightful in many respects. The hospitality of the owner and his team is outstanding from the moment you cross the threshold. The public rooms and the bedrooms are bright and glimpses of the garden and sea are to be had all over. The bedrooms comprise essentials rather than luxury, but are both spotlessly clean and comfortable.Breakfast is full of choices and dinner is a set menu; everything is beautifully prepared and cooked.Parking and entry and exit are challenging but manageable. We felt at home in our 3 night stay.
Came to Ventnor for a weekend and really pleased to have found this place. Beautiful room overlooking the sea; very hospitable hosts; excellent breakfasts. We missed out on eating in the evening but everyone says the food is just as good. In all quite perfect, and would definitely stay again.
Spent 2 nights here celebrating our Anniversary and left wishing we could stay longer Attention to detail is everywhere, from the spotless minimalist rooms, to the quirky art and numerous spots to sit in the beautiful gardens. Food is all excellent quality (veg grown in the garden) and well cooked - well priced dinner option is a set 2 course menu so don’t expect lots of choice. Portions are plentiful but not large, which suited us. Drink measures were very generous and well priced. Breakfast choices were also good and well cooked and presented. This is a beautiful listed building so Wi-fi is not always available, shower could have been better but plenty of hot water. The whole place is so relaxing and a fantastic location with wonderful sea views. All the staff were lovely - attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely return.…
