just returning from 4 day coach trip. Stayed half board. Food was surprisingly good and very efficiently served. Staff are a credit to the hotel. Hotel itself is a little tired but clean with comfy bed , so what more could you want ?

Absolutely fab time. Stayed at this friendly hotel. The service at meal times was prompt and food was lovely. You have a choice of 4 meals at each meal time. The meals are piping hot. The manager greeted us on the coach and was there to answer any questions.

We were put here by Just Go holidays after several rumours regarding Ocean View. The best thing about the hotel are the staff, hard working, friendly and nothing is to much trouble, the room we were allocated was adequate and clean, but not enough storage. The meals were ok apart from the meal on the last evening, disappointing. Entertainment on the first evening was excellent, sorry can't remember the name but Neil Sedaka look alike. Songs for everyone. Saturday's entertainment was at times hilarious and Jules even joined in with the dancing. Sunday was a good way to get everyone to bed early. Although Heidi has a good voice, she sang for herself! Just because we're OAP'S doesn't mean we need such a dire repertoire. The Medehamstade did there best with such short notice from Just Go, but the itinerary promised from them never happened so l am therefore seeking compensation from them and urge anyone else on this trip to do the same.

This was a four day coach trip where we should have been staying at a different hotel. We are so glad that we ended up here. On our arrival we were greeted on the coach by the manager who then quickly ran through one or two things before entering. The problem here is that there isn't a lift. But they did have a staff member on hand to take cases to the rooms if needed. A nice touch. They do have some ground floor rooms. Our 1st floor room was spacious, containing 1 double and 1 single bed plus plenty of storage space. The bathroom has had a makeover where the bath has been replaced by the largest shower cubicle that I've ever used. Towels are changed on request. Having read the reviews about the meals all that I can say is that either we were fortunate or people were being critical. We could not fault the food or the staff. The hotel is situated a short walk from the town where you will find buses that actually run on time. Adding to this, 3 nights of memorable entertainment and a nice bar made it an all round enjoyable short break. Would I go back there? Yes.

What a fantastic short break me and my husband have just had. A warm welcome from James, who, on our arrival greeted us on the coach. Our room was spotlessly clean. The restaurant staff were attentive, we didn't wait long for our food, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was top-notch, compliments to the chef. The bar was again spotlessly clean, and the service brilliant, loved the "Happy Hour" The entertainment on Friday and Saturday night was excellent, Sadly there is no lift, but there are ground floor rooms with just a few stairs for anyone who is disabled. This is a charming Hotel, with lovely staff

We went on our 1st coach trip with shearing coaches fantastic driver 👏 lovely island !!! Awful Hotel our room was on the top floor 3 flights up very narrow stairs not good for a man with bad legs !! The room it's self was small you constantly trip over the 2 chairs in the room good strong shower tho !! The food was awful big portions of tasteless slop am a chef and was shocked by the standard of food they were serving packet soups frozen veg custard watery and made with water and most of it cold !! Breakfast was worse all food was served on freezing cold plates all chefs no that is stupid !! Or should know , Drinks were overly priced I think £8 for 2beers expensive entertainment was provided 1st 2 nights quite good then if went downhill from there !! Whatever else there was to say about this hotel, the directions in case of fire in my room were made a mockery of in that the exit from which we are supposed to vacate the hotel was permanently locked. My understanding from a quick check on health and safety regulations is that emergency exits and assembly points should be accessible at all times. Otherwise what's the point of them? The hotel is quite large and rambling, seems to be made up of three main buildings. I could locate no unlocked emergency exit, which meant the only way out was via the main entrance, some considerable distance from the rooms at the far end of the hotel.

Response from James Helyer, General Manager at Medehamstede Hotel
Responded 8 Oct 2021
Contrary to your misleading review, of course we would not put our guests at risk by locking the fire exits. All of our fire exits have either push bars or handles and are all sign posted throughout the building with specific directions in your room. Maybe you should have voiced your concerns whilst you were here before posting this nonsense.

The hotel may have seen better days, e.g. slightly worn carpets and curtains, but was very clean. Staff seemed friendly, although we didn't need to interact with them beyond check-in. Parking is limited with room for only around 10 cars at most, although parking in the street is possible between 6pm and 8am, with an extra 2 hours stay during the day. Five-minute walk to either the beach via quite a steep hill, and five minutes to the town centre as well. I managed to book this as seemingly the last twin hotel room in Britain at less than £100 a night during the summer following the lockdown, at quite short notice, so on the strength of that was good value. Overall, a recommended hotel.

Stayed here for 1 week as part of a coach party. Yes the hotel is dated but our room was clean. It would have helped to have a lift. The staff are very hard working, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good but the evening meal was basic with limited choice. Location of hotel is excellent. At the foot of the street there is a lift to take you down to beach level. Cost £1.60 return. There are nice bars and restaurants down here. The High St shops are only a few minutes walk from the medehamstede. A 10-15 min. walk will take you to the old village - well worth a visit. Bus station is also handy and buses run frequently to other resorts. Bar prices - a house double measure is £3.75. Bottle of coke £2.00. There are nice gardens of you wish to sit outside. Entertainment on each night. If I return to isle of Wight I would stay here again.
