As part of a coach party, we really looked forward to staying in the heart of the lovely old part of Shanklin. This is an old coaching inn in an enviable position with great walks and Shanklin Chine just across the road (a must-see, but you need good legs! Go at sunset as it's illuminated and very pretty.) Lovely warm welcoming staff and excellent quality food served from the carvery won't leave you feeling hungry. Such tender meats! Our room was pleasant enough and it even had a four-poster bed. The bathroom was also a good size and had plenty of hot water at all times. We found the mattress to be fairly bouncy, one person moves, you both move, but to be fair we're used to a memory foam one. The linen was clean as was the room generally. This is an old hotel and is rather tired in places as was to be expected but the lovely staff and quality of food made it a very pleasant stay for us. We didn't see the entertainment as we prefer a bit of quiet these days but the noise wasn't an issue for us and finished by 11 pm I tried the London Pride ale on tap which was excellent. It was lovely sitting outside in the beer garden enjoying the sun and sipping my pint. If we were to return to the island we would definitely stay at the Holliers again. Many thanks to Steve and Dawn and your brilliant staff for a great stay.…
The staff where friendly and helpful, the food very good and the location beautiful! There is only one reason we marked it poor and that is the cleanliness and this ran throughout the hotel...........Our room had not been properly cleaned for some time. The carpet sticky, the windows and frames filthy, but the real issue was the bathroom/toilet, this was DIRTY, black gunge in nearly every corner, the taps dirty, the shower was either a freezing or boiling dribble at best. We even had the last occupants bathroom waste in the bin! Thankfully the bed sheets where clean otherwise we'd would have asked to move. It's a real shame because this hotel as a lot to offer and we would probably go back after some renovation and cleaning, we wouldn't recommend until them I'm afraid.
Me and my husband only had a short coach break at Holliers Hotel, we would have loved a much longer stay. Stephen and Dawn Leach, the owners, gave us a warm welcome to their Hotel they are wonderful hosts, and all of the staff were extremely attentive. The Hotel was very clean, including our room. I was the only "veggie" diner on our coach, on entering the dining room I saw a large carvery, but was I disappointed.......NO......Stephen is a professional chef, he made delicious vegetarian meals during my stay, a clean plate every evening from me, and another clean plate from my husband who loved the carvery, he said the meat was so tender, and Dawn who carved the meat joints made sure the guests all had a good portion, and not cut with a razor blade so you could see through the meat, but a good old fashioned carving knife, excellent. There were 2 young ladies in the dining room waiting tables, our waitress was Sarah, thank you for looking after us. Glen Carroll, off "Stars In Their Eyes" entertained us on the Saturday night, he was fantastic, we had seen him before on our first visit to the Isle of Wight, albeit at a different venue, but we knew we wouldn't be disappointed, he was great. Congratulations to Stephen and Dawn on their hotel, Is there a downside? Didn't find one, so we'll just have to book again at Holliers Hotel. Thank you so much everyone, Sue and Steve…
The hotel was very tired lacked finess Bathrooms very small No lift No toiletries No hairdryer Decoration need attention Expensive drinks On the positive side food excellent Entertainment good Beds clean Room clean I am part of a coach party little niggles from most nothing massive Just a short break not sure if I would return
We have just returned from a coach trip to the Isle of Woght and stayed at the Holliers Hotel. The owners and staff could not do enough for us. The food was excellent with plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner.
Such a shame that this hotel is in such a lovely location. It’s almost beyond repair with dirty worn out floors throughout the reception area to old carpets that haven’t seen a Hoover for a long time. A mis match of furniture from an 80’s jumble sale in the room with broken bath surround and cobwebs on the walls. The smell of the carvery wafts round the whole building and not in a good way. We returned from a meal out at 9.30pm to a closed up hotel in darkness and no staff about not exactly welcoming or late!
Lovely evening meal and breakfast and a great price could do with a bit of attention, shower had very little power and bath seal and curtain were black with mould. However, the location, right in the old town is beautiful and a lovely walk to the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed this break and gorgeous coastal walks. You get what you pay for and we all enjoyed it.
Looking for an evening meal with a lot of places closed for the winter we found the carvery at Holliers Hotel A choice of Beef and/or Turkey with Yorkshire puds plus a range of vegetables all nicely cooked
We came across this restaurant while visiting Shanklin chine. We had the everyday carvery and it was really lovely. The price is also really reasonable and the stuffing with bacon and sausage was so yummy. We had a choice of beef or turkey or both!!! Along will all the normal trimmings. Highly recommend.
The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and were always available. The food was plentiful and good. The carvery was always available instead of the main menu with a choice of lots of fresh vegetables. The breakfasts were extensive with good sausages and bacon. Evening entertainment was varied and lively and with the bar - no need to leave the hotel. Rooms were adequate but the beds were comfortable.
