We recently stayed here and couldn’t fault a thing, the staff were incredibly friendly, nothing was to much trouble, everywhere was spotless. Yes the rooms are dated but that is definitely reflected in the prices you pay, but also the pictures they show on line, we had a good chat with the manager and he confirmed they are in the middle of refurbishing, they have done the down stairs, they are due to get new TVs and room WiFi shortly (currently on in downstairs as stated online) and the rooms will be decorated. The outside pool is about to get a facelift to, indoor pool is lovely. Breakfast was out of this world not your normal deep fried hotel breakfast. We would hesitate to go back and look forward to seeing what it’s like once all the works are completed. Thanks Brunswick for a fabulous stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Cannot fault the staff or the cleanliness of our room. The room and Bathroom were a reasonable size, but in need of refurbishment. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls skirting scuffed and the pine dressing table was so scratched you would be forgiven for thinking it had been sandpapered ready for painting. The T.V was very tempremental and no Wi-fi in the room as originally stated. The toilet wouldn't flush - although this was quickly remedied. The shower temperature was either boiling hot or cold. We chose this hotel as the reviews for the chef of the restaurant was award winning, but on receiving the burnt breakfasts quickly realised he must just use the hotel as a pop-up restaurant in the evening. Unfortunately having the poor breakfasts, put us off trying a meal in the evening for fear of wasting our money. Car Park - Beware, some drivers found the spaces to be tight. I had the misfortune of my car of 4 weeks being hit in the car park by a very dishonest guest as they failed to own up. The downstairs of the hotel is lovely, but the rest let's it down. I will return to the Isle of Wight but not this hotel

The staff were friendly and welcoming, When we booked we asked for confirmation twice - never received. Likewise a couple we spoke to turned up on Tues only to be told they were not expected till Thursday. Suggest you check, double check your booking. The management are trying to run before they can walk. All their efforts are going into the restaurant, instead of the hotel. HSE rules are breached in a number of places - trip hazard in front of fire exit, Swimming pool changing rooms etc. My main concern is after 19:00 there was generally only one member of staff to look after reception, check in arrivals, look after bar and restaurant, keep an eye on swimming pool and assist guests - totally unacceptable. In our room (29) we found a section of floor board had moved and we were standing on carpet alone! The staff arranged promptly for it to be rectified but rather than roll carpet back to install new floorboard a small 1 foot square was cut into carpet and then stuck back. We will not be going back despite the excellent staff working under bad management. My suggestion to the management is get the hotel sorted ie Hot Tub, Sauna, Remove all Trip Hazards, Get Wi Fi in bedrooms and decent TV's. Then work on the restaurant.

We stayed here for the weekend for our anniversary and we went with our friends. At first glance the communal areas were beautiful but when they showed us to our rooms 12 and 14, omg, they were grim. Our room had frosted windows to hide the view of the kitchen, the curtains and carpet a dirty grey colour and the pine bed had seen better days. Neither of us slept all night as the bed was lumpy, the pillows thin and cheap and nasty, the room very cold as it never saw the sun! We both woke up with aching backs! Our friends room, although with a better aspect had no towel rail and their bed was the same as ours and they too suffered with bad backs the next day. We asked to be moved and, fair play, the staff were really lovely and so helpful, they moved us to two nicer rooms with lovely aspects but again, curtains grubby, paintwork peeling carpet was patched, toilets stained, furniture scratched and peeling! We would not stay here again the outside is very deceiving as other guests we spoke to said the same thing. Brunswick you need to lower your prices too, £10 for a glass of wine is ridiculous. A bit of decorating and new beds would make all the difference.

Response from Jenna Massey, Other at Brunswick Hotel

Hi, thanks for your review, I can assure you you did not pay over the top prices, our prices have not been increased this year despite everything going up… gas, electric, water, food, staff costs. Regarding your comment on the garden no it couldn’t wait, unfortunately a collapsed drain won’t wait for anyone. It is incredibly unfortunate that it happened during Easter but it has been an on going battle with southern water for some time for them to fix the issue off our land so we could fix the issue on it, they only fixed their issue last week which has meant we have had to dig out garden up this week. However that being said there was still a large grass area with tables and chairs for our guests to enjoy. I find the staff far from helpful comment surprising as the most common recurrence in our reviews are how helpful and friendly the staff are. Sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. Kind Regards
