Set in a beautiful location with off street parking for guests, the Birkdale is by far one of the best guest houses we have stayed at, Lesley and Colin are the perfect hosts/owners who go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay without being Imposing. Nothing was ever too much trouble, our room was spotless with every amenity carefully and thoughtfully provided. The breakfasts are just amazing! The homemade cookies baked by Lesley are delicious, thank you.
We had been on the Island for five days. Stopping in Yarmouth. The purpose was to see my elderly mother for her 95 birthday. On the day of departure we encountered the Storm. Friends had stopped at the Birkdale the previous week. Our present hotel was no longer available so we called Leslie at the Birkdale to see if she could help us out. At first she told us that they were now closed for a break but quickly realised the position we were in so they very kindly opened up for us for the one night as all ferries had been cancelled. The property is immaculate throughout. from the wonderful welcome until we had a superb breakfast and left. I can only say that having stopped on the Isle of Wight on a number of occasions The is by far the best and Lesley & Colin truly deserve all of the recognition that they receive. Well done to you both.…
When visiting the Isle of Wight we will always stay at this most excellent Guest House. Hosts Leslie and Colin have added their personal touches to their spotlessly clean premises. Nothing is too much trouble for this couple and their local knowledge has proved invaluable. En-suite rooms with fridge, a breakfast menu of variety and quality fresh ingredients that would put most hotels to shame. Free parking and Wi-fi and Leslie bakes fine cookies that are placed alongside the tea/coffee making facilities in each room.
Absolutely brilliant. Made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived by Colin and Leslie. Rooms were very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was lovely with a great choice. Whatever you needed they would help you with . There were lovely little touches like home made biscuits on arrival in the room and bottles of water when needed, also fresh milk for your coffee that you could put in your room fridge. The b&b is well situated with off road parking and pubs and restaurants nearby. Would definitely recommend and will be going back again soon

Just returned from ninth stay at this excellent Guest House. Lesley and Colin are EXCEPTIONAL hosts making guests feel more than welcome from arrival to departure. Rooms are decorated to a very high standard and kept spotlessly clean. Amenities now include a refrigerator which is very welcome especially in the warmer summer months. Lesley's homemade cookies left in your room on arrival are to die for! Breakfast is as good as it gets in a Guest House. The local sausages are simply the best! This is an EXCEPTIONAL bed and breakfast located in a side road adjacent to the charming Shanklin Old Village. Absolute perfect location for all the town has to offer. Only negative is having to check out! Thanks again Lesley and Colin. Cannot wait for our next visit!
Lesley and Colin are fantastic Hosts, this was our 4th visit to The Birkdale and we would not stay anywhere else on the Island. The room was very clean with a very comfortable bed, a fridge in the room was great to keep our drinks cool. The choice at Breakfast is brilliant and all cooked to a very high standard. Nothing is too much trouble for them, would recommend a visit. We took friends this time as you can't beat it for a place to stay.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about the place, or the hosts, Lesley and Colin. I have stayed in many guest houses, and can say that this is genuinely the best one I’ve ever stayed in! It is immaculately clean, the room we stayed in, (four poster) was beautiful. The little touches, homemade biscuits, fresh milk and water in the fridge, different varieties of teas and other drinks, were lovely. Breakfast was delicious. Lesley and Colin make you feel so welcome, I didn’t want to leave. Please don’t hesitate in booking, it is worth every penny and more. Thank you Lesley and Colin.
We stayed for four days Lesley and Colin made us feel welcomed from the first minute of arriving, The Birkdale is very clean and the breakfast is fantastic check out the fruit and home made yoghurt , The hotel is situated in the middle of Shanklin we will definitely use this guest house when we return Thank you Lesley and Colin for a very enjoyable stay
From start to finish, Lesley and Colin were welcoming and friendly. They helped us with places to visit and eat. The room was extra clean with tea, coffee, biscuits and water which you can get topped up everyday. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh fruit bowls and tasty full English which filled you up for the day. The bed was comfy and slept very well every night. The guest house is situated in the old shanklin village about 100 metres away from little gift shops and traditional pubs and restaurants. We will defiantly be coming back to visit plus recommending to family and friends as you can't really get any better. Thank you Lesley and Colin for a lovely stay! :)
