Hotel was a bit dated but a reasonable place to stay on your journey with Costa, MacDonalds and WHSmith next door and a petrol station. Small service station but quiet.. Ok as a pit stop in your journey.

We travel from the South of England to Durham annually, always staying with family. This is the first time since Covid we've been able to do so - due to a family illness, and being too late to rebook, we were forced to seek accomodation for the first 2 days. Unfortunately this coincided with Durham's Lumiere festival so accommodation was in short supply, and priced at a premium, 2 rooms costing nearly £370 for 2 nights. Enter Days Inn at Bowburn... Firstly, the location was fine, about 10 mins from where we needed to be, the placement, less so. located at an off motorway services, my room faced onto a busy motorway junction - luckily a 5hr drive meant so was too knackered to be woken up by the noise. My parents, over the other side of the hotel were woken up by a bunch of drunken pricks who decided to have a party with loud music at 12am - even this didn't wake me. Luckily one of the receptionists put paid to that sharpish. The rooms themselves were extremely tired, mismatched furniture, water damaged bedside cabinets (both rooms), noisy plumbing, rusty fixtures, lumpy carpets, leaky window frames - the list goes on. Someone had painted the room and not bothered to take the curtains down, which were also now painted. Thankfully, the room was clean, and warm despite the only heat source being an old electric heater that looked like someone had beaten it up. The bedding was clean, although my room had obviously housed a dog at some point as the divan was covered in coarse white hairs. Staff were great, from what limited dealings I had with them, in all, if I'd paid £45 a night for a room as per some of the other reviewers, I'd not have cause to complain, but at nearly £400 these could have been better.

Room absolutely stunk of wet dog, we wanted to leave as soon as we walked into the room. Carpets are filthy and furnishings are definitely due for replacement. There is no restaurant as the description and pictures show on Google.

Went to see lumiere with some friends in Durham city centre. Hotel was not inconveniently located and the availability of parking improved the location. The price was probably higher due to other hotel availability being lower at this time making it have worse value for money than usual. Biggest disappointment was the free WiFi that I remained logged on to for less than 5mins before it automatically disconnected me.

The staff were lovely, and helped us as much as they could. And our hotel we stayed in was beautiful, super comfy and overall it was lush. We will definitely be coming back in the near future. And we would definitely recommend coming here for your stay. Thank you x
