Friendly and spacious room. Bed a bit hard for our taste, as hotels often are. Some street noise penetrated windows at night. Good room air conditioning. Good tv and wardrobe space. Good bath and shower. Didn't use restaurant. No de- caff coffee at bar.

I stayed at the Marriot for two nights on a weekend in Durham. The location is fab, it’s about a 15 min walk from train station and is right on the edge on the town centre. Check in was quick and easy. The room was large with a lovely river view. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable. During our stay we requested several things and these were brought promptly. The hotel bar and restaurant is pricey but this is fairly typical. We did eat in the restaurant, I had a below average steak sandwich for £15. Service in the restaurant was slow, if staying again I would avoid the restaurant.

We had a really good experience at the Durham Marriott. Check in was super fast and easy. Extremely friendly reception staff. Received an upgrade (Titanium Member) to the Castle Suite (very nice). Thank You. As you would expect the suite was extremely large. Breakfast was plentiful but was a bit nervous that it was buffet style and we certainly observed folks not sanitising their hands etc before or after using the tongs, nor wearing face face masks (not mandatory in England). We still used the face masks though and sanitiser our hands before and after touching the tongs. Location is perfect, right in the middle of plenty of bars, restaurants, shops, he main tourist sites, just perfect. A bit disappointed having to pay £11 per night in the hotel car park though, a bit steep to say the least. All in all, a most enjoyable stay and would certainly recommend the Marriott Durham for your stay.

It was a long-held ambition of mine to stay at the Marriott County Hotel in Durham. In the heyday of the coal industry in the Durham region there was an annual day out for the miners and their families which included a parade of all the colliery brass bands, through the city and past the County Hotel where they were greeted by the top Labour MPs from the balcony. I have attended three of these gatherings, which continued after all the pits were closed and will resume next year after a two-year break. My ambition has finally been fulfilled. My wife and I have just returned from a five-day break at 'The County' and it was well worth waiting for. Comfortable king-size bed, good food and friendly staff. What more could you ask for? It was not always possible to have an evening meal in the main dining room because of pre-bookings but the adjoining Cast Iron Bar more than compensated. We are non meat-eaters, and some menu items we particularly enjoyed were tortilla chips with a trio of vegetarian dips, and tacos filled with hummus and spiced roast cauliflower. It is over two years since we stayed in a hotel. The County Hotel made it worth the wait.

Nice room. Stayed in 364 and was a huge bed and nice size room with shower. Bedding was very good. It’s very central so great if taking your family to Uni. Bridge closed next door at moment due to works but this is due to be completed next month. There is a pool on site but this is not in use at the moment. Not sure if this is because of covid . If you want WiFi they charge you for it which I think is a bit tight. Better off piggybacking off your phone. Note. There is height restriction for their car park. No good for a van Parking overnight is quite pricey at £11 overnight. Do yourself a favour and save yourself some money. Parking during the day on site is expensive. If you were exiting the car park turn left and go to the end of the road. The road then forks right and goes uphill or left to a road that leads to a dead end by the health center. Go there. So much cheaper than nearby meters. Make sure you download the ‘PayByPhone phone ‘ app as it’s used all around Durham. If you park here parking is only in operation from 8am to 2pm and is 30p per 30mins. We parked here all day for £3.30 and the following morning just repaid on the app without having to go back to the car. Bear in mind this free parking after 2pm may change at some point. You can get breakfast on site for£ 10 per person but we ate out. Trains from Durham take 13 mins to get to Newcastle if you need more substantial retail therapy. Nice to visit but glad to get back to Durham as beautiful and everything close.
