Lovely hotel, we booked an Executive Double room which was very modern, spacious and clean. The bathroom was huge with a tub bath. We had an evening meal in The Vaults restaurant which was great and the cocktails were very well made. The staff were polite and friendly. It's just a shame that the hotel is in such a peculiar...

I am absolutely delighted you enjoyed your recent stay with us. We get many people staying with us either en-route to Scotland or using Barrow as a base from which to explore the Lake District. You're absolutely right, Barrow is a proper Northern industrial town with a fabulous heritage as one of the "boom towns" of the late 19th century....

I stayed at the Duke on a Thursday and Friday night in October. The rest of my extended family were staying at the Premier Inn across town. After a few years of staying in hotels with work I try to avoid large chains and look out for independent/boutique type of places. I'd had a drink at the Duke once when...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. I am delighted you enjoyed your recent stay and note the difference between ourselves, as a small independent hotel operator, compared to the large chains. Every one of the forty two bedrooms at the Duke is individually designed and has its own quirks. All our double beds are...

Visited friends in nearby Ulverston. Barrow is not a tourist mecca, yet has a quaint friendliness to it. Ulverston a lovely town. The Duke of Edinburgh was our home for three nights and we were delighted. Room 104 was exceptional, better even than our Windermere 5 star stay and a third of the price. Smart bar that my husband adored....

Well that was a delightful review and I thank you for taking the time to send it in. We are very happy with our offering at the Duke. We do genuinely work very hard to present home cooked and high quality food. Our bar selection is second to none in the area and the general ambiance in the bar is...

Spent a couple of days here. The rooms was comfortable and well maintained and the architecture and decor creates a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are friendly and pleasant. The food is ok but nothing special but the beer really let's it down. I've tried three different beers and each has an unpleasant after taste. A real pity but only if...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. This is an almost unique complaint. We generally receive nothing but praise for the quality of our beer and I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy yours. We are Cask Marque accredited, have frequently been recommended by national and local beer publications and offer a range of hand pulled and...

I stayed there overnight recently and enjoyed my stay. The dining room was very open and bright nice original features in ceiling. Staff very friendly and helpful a good atmosphere all round. The room i had was quiet in the sense that i could not here the traffic or booming nightclub / pub sounds but was marred by a loud...

Thank you very much for making the effort to write your review. I am very pleased you enjoyed most elements of your recent stay, though not so happy about the "low hum". I will investigate this matter and ascertain how we remove this issue for future guests. I do hope you get the chance to stay again, this time hum-less....

I thought this hotel would be perfect being in town, but it's not a town you'd want to walk around! I don't know how it's got such good reviews! The food was very poor, hardly edible! the rooms were very clean but hardly luxurious! Fortunately I don't like rooms too hot as we couldn't get the bathroom heater to work...

Firstly, many thanks for taking the time to write this review. Unfortunately, there weren't many elements about our hotel that you enjoyed and you finished your review by citing the Drunken Duck and the Swan Hotel as alternative "lovely hotels". They are indeed lovely hotels, in a completely different location to ourselves and often charging four times our rates. We...

Stayed here for a weekend in September 2015, placed in a top floor room with ensuite, very nice, clean and accommodating. Be warned - the top floor rooms have an angled side to the ceiling/wall in line with the roof, headbanging awaits! The bathroom had a P-shaped bath with shower, and was fully kitted out with plenty of towels and...

We arrived to a professional greeting. A lovely hotel with a warm feeling. We were shown to our 'executive suite'. It was fantastic. I can not fault anything about it. Nipping clean, decor, size-just lovely. I only wish we were there for more than 1 night. Bed was comfortable. Shower was powerful. My only comment would be it is quite...

Don't quite understand how this place can get a 4.5 rating on here, that's more most 5 star hotels in Las Vegas. Made the mistake of using this as the base for our visit to the lakes without realising how industrial the area was. Hotel itself (apart from the food) was ok but area was shocking and the parking didn't...

Didn't spend too long working out where to go in Barrow. Came here 2 years ago and it was fantastic. Now it's better as they've got a new restaurant in the cellar (Vaults) and I stayed in one of their new rooms. If you like good food, good wine and good beer there's nowhere else to consider. Free WiFi is...
