We visit here every year on our annual trip. We were very disappointed with the service at the bar over looking the lake and the tidiness of that area. We were there for approx 3 hours relaxing reading the papers taking the views in. Not once did the bar staff come to us, even after having several drinks to remove...

First time to the Lake District and heard that this hotel was good. Was bit pricey for 2 nights round £250 which was what you expect from a good place. The food is expensive so wouldn't recommend eating here. You cannot check in till 4 which isn't the best. It's £20 a day to park also which for a pricey...

Just come back form a night stay here. The hotel was nice and we stayed in a room overlooking the lake, which was picturesque. We enjoyed both our evening meal and breakfast in the hotel. The evening meal menu was a bit limited in choice but the food quality was good. Service at both meals was a bit slow and...

We stayed in the hotel for two nights for a friends wedding. The room that we had was at the far end of the building so we just about had a lake view. The rooms were spacious, a really good size for getting ready for a formal dinner and then a wedding the day after. We ate in the hotel...

We recently visited the hotel for a night away as couples. We have stayed in bowness, windermere and ambleside alot but never stayed in the macdonald old England. Location - excellent for lake windermere as it's by the edge of the lake and a 2 min slow walk to the boats. Excellent for bars and shops and all within a few...

Having booked for one night, travelled up from manchester to find you couldnt book in till four o clock, which in my view is too late to use facilities. Paid 295 for room and when booking in was told it would cost another 20 pounds to park car, which i thought was unbelievable. Thought the staff were ignorant, was expecting...

The pool was a bit cold, and the sauna wasn't working 2/3 days. There is a charge for parking but you can just park around the corner for £7.50 a day, which they informed us. The rooms were lovely, and comfy beds. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice and very delicious. Also very good location, was a great place...

Stayed one night. We pulled up out side, which was an awkward side road. They offered a parking service in their car park. This was £20/night. They actually just parked the car in an open air car park up the road. This was barrier protected. Our room was a bit shabby and not cleaned properly. We found an empty bottle...

Dear BeckiHailey, Thank you for posting your recent stay experience with us. We appreciate your kind comments about the staff and food quality. Rather surprised about the room cleanliness comment, which I have shared with our Head Housekeeper for immediate follow up.

stayed here with my wife for 2 nights at the end of January and had a 'feature' double room that over-looked the lake - a view that would be hard to beat Room was very spacious and well laid out - though only had a walk in shower and not the option of a bath as well (as is stated...
