My Mum Lilian had her wedding reception at the Borough Arms over 50 years ago. She loved to visit on a Saturday night until illness made it impossible. She passed away recently and we had her funeral wake at the Borough (it was actually the same room she had her wedding reception many years ago). Mr Sheikh accommodated our every...

Firstly, my apologies to the GM, Mr Sheikh, as this review is rather late! My son started at nearby Keele University in September 2016 and he and I spent several days at the Borough Arms getting things organised before the start of his first year at the University. The bedrooms are adequate and perfectly good value for the price charged;...

I held an enrollment night at this venue and the venue layout was excellent, close to main transport links and the hotel staff were extremely accommodating with their time and services. Definately a good place for any kind of function to be held.

Outstanding. My father passed away suddenly and we needed a venue that could accommodate 150 people. The owner was so helpful. My father was of Indian background but my mother was white. So we had to accommodate both cultures. The buffet food for the traditional people was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were friendly and very good. My fathers family...

Lovely place, great food, brilliant atmosphere and wonderful staff. The best thing about this place happens to be the amount of things that this place can do, from evening meals and a quiet drink, all the way up to catering for wedding ceremonies and parties. The food was lovely, not exactly cheap, but enjoyable all the same, and the atmosphere...

Have worked in the travel industry for 20 years and never come across such arrogance. Hotel staff were absolutely awful. Asked for the names of the staff concerned to make an official complaint to the Hotel Manager, Mr Sheikh. Tracy refused to grace us with her surname. Couple of other staff there too. So rude. Such a bad attitude. Absolutely...

Only made a visit for lunch. Lancashire Hotpot was delicious, and never had better chips! The Baileys cheesecake excelled expectations. We only live locally but this will be a regular for my wife and me.

I presented a training session for a firm at the hotel and found the staff and facilities excellent; I would highly recommend the hotel to others looking for a conference location in the area. Nothing was a problem for the staff.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Borough Arms Hotel and Restaurant is one of the oldest established hotels in the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent areas, with history dating back to 1783. The hotel is very much of the style associated with a traditional English town centre coaching inn, yet has been sensitively and subtly refined to offer the comfort and modern standards demanded by today's visitors. Independently owned and managed, the hotel retains many period features and takes great pride in offering a very personal service. As a valued guest, you may be confident that we will do our utmost to ensure your comfort, whether you are staying in one of our 40 centrally heated, en-suite rooms, visiting us for a meal in the restaurant, or using our conference and banqueting facilities. ... more   less
