Three of stayed here during a bell ringing trip to Beverley. The surroundings - a listed Georgian house in the centre of Beverley - are wonderful but the best thing about Newbegin house is the owners who are really friendly without being over bearing, the perfect hosts. The breakfasts are the best I have ever eaten away with a wide...

Three of us spent last Thursday night here. The only disappointment was the fact that due to the guesthouse being fully booked, we could not stay a second night. The whole experience was wonderful. The house has a fascinating history, the hosts were welcoming, friendly and everything was done to make the experience special. Both rooms we had were full...

A magnificent B&B in the centre of Beverley. Rooms were spacious and well equipped with lots of small details to make you feel welcome and help you during your stay. Breakfasts were amazing and the proprietor and his family were really friendly, even showing us round their lovely garden. It is very central and has ample free parking, a great...

Many thanks for your splendid review. Glad you enjoyed the garden. The high walls erected in around 1771 make it sheltered and quiet. We have added two ponds, a waterfall and a raised stone patio as a breakfast seating area. Guests are welcome to sit in the garden for a pot of tea or coffee on arrival and a stroll....

We spent two nights at this absolutely wonderful guesthouse. In fact it was like staying in a Stately home. The room was magnificent, full of character and incredibly comfortable. The breakfasts were all you could hope for, delicious. The family could not have done more to make us feel welcome. We certainly recommend it. Pat Wilkins

Many thanks for your superb review. It is particularly gratifying to receive such kind comments after not one but two recent 4 star reviews! You have cheered us up, thank you very much. It is so much nicer for our house to be compared with a stately home, rather than to be condemned as "quirky" and "cosy". We do hope...

We stayed here for one night as a change/treat from the places we normally use when visiting our daughter and family in Melton. This place is certainly different to the norm, with a quaint charm. Walter was exceedingly helpful in showing us to the local micro-pub and advising on the best place to eat. And the breakfast was especially good....

As soon as I saw the word "quirky", I suspected this would not be a 5 star review, however many compliments might be paid. This impression was confirmed by the word "quaint". We need to reduce the quirkiness factor - suggestions welcome, on a postcard or by email. Walter Sweeney

What a thoroughly lovely time we had staying for two nights with Walter and Nuala. A beautiful home with really interesting furnishings, very comfortable accommodation with all possible needs met including a mini fridge in each room and wine glasses. Conveniently placed to step out in the picturesque market town of Beverley with plenty of independent shops, restaurants and pubs...

What a welcoming place - both the House and Garden , and the owners. Very centrally situated and with safe parking , and most comfortable rooms . Love has been lavished on this House and it shows. We were made to feel extremely welcome as soon as we arrived. It was a lovely day so we were offered tea/coffee and a quick tour of the super gardens while the kettle was boiling. Walter was a complete star when it came to recommending places to eat/visit/drink etc (and as he said, he has tried most of them himself!)...

Thank you for your thoughtful, comprehensive and generally favourable review. I apologise for the dust and cobwebs you found. The fact that it is a very old building with high ceilings does not excuse these faults and we must try harder. Our cleaner is very conscientious and hard working and does her best. Sorry we were dealing with other guests...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Newbegin House is a beautiful Georgian mansion built in 1746. It is quietly located in a small one way street only 103 yards from Saturday Market, and close to several excellent restaurants and pubs. Free parking is available. The owners Walter and Nuala Sweeney share the house with their three daughters and Walter's parents, who live in a self contained wing. We have three luxurious guest rooms all with pocket sprung king sized beds and a choice of a marble en suite bathroom with heated floor or a fully tiled piping hot shower or a bathroom with overhead shower. The largest room has space for up to three single beds for family use. There is a guests' sitting room where you can enjoy a welcoming tea or coffee on arrival. An award winning breakfast is served in our magnificent dining room, which has shuttered windows and a crystal chandelier. A fine drawing room on the first floor, with a marble fireplace at each end, is available for hire for small conferences and private functions. Uniquely in Beverley, we are 5 star rated with both QIT and the AA, and also have a breakfast award. ... more   less
