We had 2 nights at the Royal Oak and found the room comfortable and the breakfasts just a great way to start a big day touring. The room we had had enough space to accommodate our stuff and the usual bits and pieces. My mother loved the chocolate in the basket with the teas & coffees! Selecting your breakfast the... More

We had a very pleasant stay at the Royal Oak Guest House. We were in Orkney to do some family visiting and sight seeing. Great central location being a short walk to the town centre and for visiting the Orkney sites. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic with a good choice of fruit and cereal plus... More

We had two small double beds instead of a queen which was a pain but the Royal Oak was very comfy an light slightly dated. I enjoyed our two days here. The brekky was lovely. The Internet wifi was not very good though you need to be near reception or room 1 to get it.

Every time I watch 4 in a bed, I think of this place. It would win every episode hands down! The facilities are excellent, the host is perfect, and as for the breakfast - wow! Whatever you want, it's here. To look out over the coast and sea in the dining room - a view to die for! I've stayed... More

The Royal Oak is a great place to stay, and I have returned to it several times in recent years when working in Orkney. Liz is a great cook and very welcoming, and the rooms are warm, well appointed and comfortable. I never hesitate to recommend it to my colleagues and friends.

I had four days to spend in the Orkney Islands before heading to Edinburgh. The Royal Oak Guest House was my first stop. I arrived in the evening and taking a quick walk it seemed further from Kirkwall than I thought. Once I got my bearings, the next day the walk seemed shorter about 20 minutes to the town centre. I... True, it is not quaint or full of old-style charm, but for the 2 nights we were there, the room was large, the bed comfortable and the hostess very accommodating. Breakfast was very good and plentiful.
