The staff are wonderful, property is clean, however the building itself is very tired and needs some work. Toilet seat in room 4 is very stained and mould on ceiling in shower, around windows in bedroom, . There has obviously been a leak as there are water stains on the ceiling and the wallpaper is peeling. Food was great! Quiet area near the marina, so out of town, could be busy during height of season?
The Mayflower is just gorgeous. The room we had was very big and beautifully decorated and the bed was really comfy. We didn't eat at the restaurant but would do so if we came again. The breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly. There are some nice coastal walks directly from the hotel.
Booked this as a Christmas present for my wife. By the time of the trip our son was about to turn 8 months old. We have never been to Lymington before so sort of booked it blind, but feel as though we got really lucky with booking the mayflower. Was a perfect place to stay. 10mins the walk to the town and beautiful harbour and park just outside the back door. All of the staff (sorry, can’t remember names!) we’re really helpful and accommodating, especially to our little boy. The room, they upgraded us to a family suite which was beautiful and spacious. Couldn’t have asked for more
Ordered the lymington crabbie cakes & to our dismay we received 1 cake for the price of £5.50!! We also ordered one of the sauces at 50p extra totalling at now £6!! We at least thought this would come with some sort of salad garnish given the price, although not stated on menu but this is usually a given. We did complain as the menu says CAKES which does not mean just 1!!!!! They did give us another but was an error on their part & it stays as 1 cake . Given the overall presentation & was the size of a ginger nut biscuit even if it was 1 & considering the price its just not exceptable.
Went for lunch on the opening day of the ships galley, great food, great value for money, enjoyed the view of the garden from the refurbished decking Will definitely return and recommend to all our friends and family, cocktail bar and outdoor catering facilities our a great idea and the take away option is ideal if you want to go and sit and watch the busy harbour
When we arrived we were sat down in the back of the venue near rhe kitchen and were served by Grace of which it was her first shift. Being someone with a dairy intolerance, looking at the menu initially I was worried as to what I would have but the waitress went to ask the chef what they could do dairy free and they were very accomodating. The food was delicious and I would fully recommend anyone to visit the Mayflower for food. Will be back in future visits to new forest :)
We decided to meet with a small group of family at the Mayflower for drinks for my Mum's 70th. We thought it would be perfect as they describe themselves as an Inn / bar as well as a restaurant and hotel. We went in and took a seat at a table. Very quickly a man came over and asked us to move because he said there was a private party taking place (I can understand this). I said okay and said I'd go to the bar and stand - he said there wasn't really space and that all tables and areas were booked and it's best to go outside. We went outside, and it was really cold, so we came back in, went to the bar, and I asked the bartender if we could stand at the bar. He then said that he'd have to ask the Manager. Couldn't believe it - it's a pub and the area is large! Eventually they said yes and after having been made to feel really unwelcome we started to feel at ease. We had arrived at 6pm and left around 7.30pm - in that time - the table I'd been removed from was still empty - along with a whole load of others. They need to either cater for people who want to have a drink properly like most bars would OR just say they're a restaurant. Not great at all.…
Looking to stay in the New Forest for a couple of days with our friends and two cocker spaniels (one each!) we found The Mayflower which ticked all the boxes and more. We stayed here for two nights, enjoyed two breakfasts and one dinner. So this review encompasses all elements of what was an exemplary stay. This really is an upscale pub/restaurant with rooms, rather than a hotel. It has 6 rooms and we occupied two of the three 'Rooms with a View', Rooms 1 and 4. Room 1 was a little bigger, has a 'Juliette' balcony, but only a shower in the bathroom. If you want a bath, then Room 4 fits the bill - a slightly smaller room, but large bathroom with both bath and a separate walk in shower. Room 1 has the better view, but is also next to the extractor fan from the kitchen which makes a little noise when on (but not between 9pm and 8am, when the kitchen is not being used). The rooms were nicely decorated, with comfortable beds, large fluffy towels (a particular bug bear of mine) and Noble Isle bath gel/shampoo etc. A kettle, water bottles, a Nespresso pod machine, biscuits and a jar of sweets are all nice touches that far grander hotels could learn from The Mayflower. Breakfast was great....everything was fresh and the cooked dishes were nicely presented. The dogs got dog-friendly sausages....and the food for the humans was great too. Dinner showed that the kitchen has some ambition, significantly above average 'gastro-pub' food - again well prepared and nicely presented. All through our stay the staff were excellent - nothing was seemingly too much trouble and they were all very responsive to our requests. They even recommended another restaurant for Sunday night when they were closed (which turned out to be an excellent choice). Although all the team were excellent, Olivia stood out and would be an asset to any hotel, never mind this marvellous 'restaurant with rooms'. Booking direct, £150 per room per night B&B represented good value for money. Sadly I have paid much more at some hotels that promised much more but delivered far less. I would clearly go back but in the meantime would recommend The Mayflower to anyone wanting to stay in Lymington/The New Forest.…
We stayed in Room 1. Window frames dirty and rotting, patio door was very dirty plus balcony had not been swept for some time.Dust galore over the electric cables and light shade etc. Bed looked as if it had been attacked by dog with bits taken out if it. The room was cold and we had to ask to have the heating put on and this was duly done. The room was noisy as it is above the kitchen plus the large extractor vent is right by the balcony. Outside seating is shabby and neglected. Breakfast was very good and the guy that we dealt with was very good, the only credit in the place! Very poor for a very expensive night!! DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE!
Spacious and comfortable hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Room 3 was large with 2 armchairs. Comfortable bed and lovely bed linen. Good tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a refrigerator. Modern bathroom.
